This VR Sim puts Microsoft Flight 2024 to shame! ☠️

I got tired of all bugs in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.. so I've decided to try Aerofly FS 4 instead.. and wow, I'm blown away, how well a flight sim can run in VR, how well motion controls work for flying. Aerofly puts Microsoft Flight backwards VR support to shame.

I have this and the VR side of it is very good. What lets it down for me is the scenery graphics, unless it has been updated recently. Saying that some of the scenery in this video it does look much better, more detailed.

It looks very good flying through mountains and nature spots. Cities not so much and the same is for MSFS2024 with melted buildings in cities.

What a clickbait. Maybe puts it to shame for VR implementation, but only because the sim is old and it's barebones. The best sim for VR, for me personally is X-Plane 11. Fantastic adaptation of hand controllers use. Not to mention the depth of addons and the whole sim if you pack it with addons, scripts and plugins. X-Plane 12 is the same, but more hardware demanding, and my GPU/CPU can't handle VR in that sim smoothly, and requires bringing down a lot of details. Anyways, I have both Aerofly FS 2 and 4, and they look like a tech demo to be honest. A bit of blurry ortho terrain (except Switzerland), autogen, and a bit of systems in each aircraft, just to spark your imagination. It leaves A LOT to be desired. Luckily AFS 2/4 have great physics so you can enjoy flying for a bit, but everything else, is on a bare minimums. No proper weather with wind and clouds layers, not to mention METAR, or real time weather, God forbid. No complex systems in Airbus or 737, it's all barebones. You define a flight plan in the menu and that's it! Even DIR page doesn't work, so I couldn't direct the aircraft to the waypoint. No fuel and no weight! That one is crucial for simmers. A320 will take off exactly the same every time, unless you play a bit with FLEX numbers. It takes number all the way up to 120 or so, it's laughable. But again, I managed to replicate a takeoff of 66ton takeoff weight, with FLEX temp around 120 I think. xD Due to basics of the sim, air traffic is actually not a proper air traffic, they follow the same programmed rules. Only use one or two runways on each airport, means they will land or take off in strong tailwind, depending how you setup the weather. The sound engine and generally the sounds are horrible, and for me personally that ruins the immersion even more. Oh yeah, it's the only sim that has the pushback feature built-in, means you can push your plane from the gate, and in VR it's great to see it from POV. Only thing that I enjoy in AFS4 is a bit of flying around alps, great physics and smooth VR experience in native FPS. But that gets boring after 15 minutes, and that is simply not worth 60 or so gigabytes of HDD space. Cheers

Aerofly FS4 is my go to commercial & GA sim these days, but if a completely immersive VR experience is what you're interested in then you really need to give VTOL VR a go - everything just works intuitively.

I had played VTOL VR but it's only military jets and feels very simplistic more like a Quest game than PCVR. So this is exactly what i have been saying there just aren't that many full flight sims with good VR support.

true, some physics are totally broken in MSFS2024. Plus my flight stick feels weird in MSFS, I constantly need to fight with the plain, no trim can make it fly smooth.

I am pretty much a noob in flight simming but I enjoy cold-starting in FS4 a lot. Playing in Reverb G2, sometimes controllers lose track of the position on the steering. But even without it, I'm thinking about buying a simple cheap joystick for it. Is it worth it? Can you still use hand controllers for controlling all of the knobs even with joystick in front of you?

yup, it works well with the VelocityOne Flightstick and I can still use my Quest controller in other hand at the same time.

Hey! Great video! I am very interested now. Totally agree that MSFS 2024 does not feel worth launching even for "free". Could you provide a couple more details? How does rudder control work with VR controls? Can it be configured to work like in VTOL VR with the joystick hand twist? Are helicopters good?

I have rudder programmed as twisting my velocity one flightstick. For VR motion controls the default yaw biding is joystick. I have been flying mostly planes. It has a few helicopters but I did not fly those yet. The only downside of Aerofly fs4 are tutorials, they provide all documentation online and tutorial is just a few waypoints on the map.. there is no instructor to explain controls and teach techniques. That is one part MSFS2024 is better but taking helicopter lessons in MSFS, something just feels totally broken with the joystick controls, it just constantly overshoots no matter how small, smooth my movement is. And I have quite some experience flying RC helicopters too. Same for planes, it feels like I need constantly fight controls in MSFS.

I'm using RTX 4070 super in the video.. but minimum system specs are really low for this game. So GTX1660ti should run it.

I had to take it apart to replace the stock spring, it's working well after that now. It has xbox certification but again MSFS2024 button bindings and calibration were totally wrong. So I had to bind all buttons and axis, calibrate it.. annoying. I guess, only Microsoft to blame here again.

@@MrTechcat Yeah having to rebind everything is a hassle I agree. Did you replace the spring with a stronger or softer one? I really like the stick itself especially because of the "mousewheel" on it. Amazing for trim.

Thanks for this great video. Iw as contemplating to buy this sim for a long time since I am flying exclusively in VR and this looks really cool, however, when comes the time that developer start developing apps for real hand-tracking where we don't need the controllers anymore? I thought MSFS2024 would be the first, but no, VR is not really on their list of things I believe. Not sure what is on their list, maybe just to make more billions with the new sim.

Basic Quest hand tracking does work with Virtual Desktop in Aerofly. I would not expect anything from Microsoft anymore though. After they got infected with the woke virus, currently making games worse, game characters ugly and publicly hate gamers. They just hired fired devs from the failed Concord game. That sums ups everything, why they have released MSFS 2024 which hardly could be even called a Beta in this state.. because they don't care about gamers.

I doubt it has anything to do with Apple. Container ships are sailing on streets next to the Golden Bridge, there are mountains made out of water next to Taj Mahal.. again, I'm listing only examples from own Microsoft selected locations for the very first missions to show the game. Clearly no human has even tested main locations they have put on the showcase.. not to mention, that career mode allows to select any airport on the world map.. and many airports have buildings or trees casually growing on a runway. Making impossible to even do the mission.
