I say there's a chance that the owners did bump into something and have a family member try to repair by removal. Or, it could've been theft and the dealer was simply caught in the middle of other people's problem. I mean the dealer wasn't lying when quoting a whole new system when they returned to complain about the problem. I'm probably wrong, but everybody appears to be so quick to choose a shady dealer. What was it that gets repeated? Oh yeah, pre-purchase inspection! One more thing: The fact that they waited three years instead of getting it fixed right away could have been just a "condenser job" replacement instead of the entire thing. Particularly if they owners did actually cause the problem, but if it was already there then who knows for how long before? I can't completely blame the dealer in this.

When we figured out what happened we went to ask him but unfortunately for us he had unalived himself or someone unalived him a month before because he owed money to the wrong person probably , that was what the neighbors told us. I worked for a Ford dealership (parts dept.) and would have lunch occasionally with some of the new hires in sales. You would not believe the stories they told about the orientation speech given by the Sales Manager. He was the biggest liar & thief in the company but he produced results so he was bulletproof. In second place was the guys who were the initial contact when you brought your car in for repair. If a woman came in for a burned out brake light replacement she was told it was because the car was low on " blinker fluid ".

Small shop decides it's the middle of winter who needs ac and cut the condenser out pinch the lines to keep any debris out for the sucker whos gonna have to fix it. The front clips missing gives it away. This one party trying to make a sale on a person who didn't know anything about cars

Seems like an auction flip scenario. Car was auctioned with front end damage, 1st buyer replaced the bumper and hacked out the damaged condenser in the process - because budget, sent it back to auction, dealer bought it and sold it as is. I have no idea why the other shops weren't more forthcoming in telling her why her entire system needs to be replaced. The lesson here is get a pre purchase inspection.

I went to look at a car at dealership some years back. The salesman showed me a car and told me about all the features it had including air conditioning. I said "that air conditioner does not work". In astonishment and incredulity he said back to me "how do you know that?". Then I showed him that the compressor had a hole in its side big enough to put your hand in and the insides were full of mashed up metal parts. Needless to say I did not buy anything from that dealer.

I'm probably wrong, but everybody appears to be so quick to choose a shady dealer. What was it that gets repeated? Oh yeah, pre-purchase inspection! I once got a automatic that didn't go into highway gear because I only test drove it around town, so I had to get a new transmission to even drive it home the next day. I still got a good deal under $1,000 total a car that lasted 100k miles for two years still running strong down the highway with self-replaced A/C when sold with over 300,000k very hard miles on a car that had been to the roofline underwater in a flood. I bet this car had an lighter Front Crash in the lower Part where they also hit the Condenser and the Pre Owner hadn´t enough money to fix both at that time and after that it got forgoten because it isn´t necessary to drive the Car and Worst Case the Windows are working fine. If you look at the allignement of the Frontbumper even it´s very well made it´s slightly of. The complete Bumper assembly with original Plastics and Colour alone is what in US? 1500 - 2000$ something in that Ballpark + Condenser Package, refill and some Spare Parts another maybe 500 on Top at that time wich is a lot of money for one Garage session. The only question is was it the Pre Owner or your Customer we will never now Stolen should be out of question. Even if you manage to remove the Condenser over night you have no reason to put the Bolts back in it´s to time consuming

AC issues, with me, I am almost 44 years old, and not joking, every other car has had A/C problems. I can think from my first vehicle, it was EVERY OTHER car. My current is a 2014 Toyota Camry I bought from family, and yes AC was bad. Went to a shop to get it recharged and they said it needed a repair, but it wasn't what they did there. I went right to the local Dealership and said, I Don't care, just fix it with OEM parts. A new AC Compresser ($750), and two electrical parts behind the dash, and they recharged it a couple times. They had it fixed and blowing cold, I picked it up and ... nothign. It was warm. The service manager came out and looked at it himself and was so confused. I said well no use to me like this take it back in the shop and he gave me a loaner. They later on found another part that was bad and replaced it. All togeather they gave me a few parts 1/2 off and discounted the labor rates, I saved money at the dealership, but still was about $2,500 ish. Never ever had another problem.

A friend in the 80’s had a Passat. He took it to the dealership for all maintenance. The engine timing belt failed and the engine was wrecked. Luckily the dealership stamped his maintenance book as having the timing belt replaced which they obviously didn’t do 😮

In my experience, stealerships have it out for women. A Honda dealer killed my mom’s CRV, and had the nerve to tell her she needed new bushings when they knew the engine was dying. I went down there and “made a deal” with them. Service manager was a snake.

What I like: presenting these unusual cases and their solutions. What I don’t like: the scripting: when you lift the car it’s impossible to not notice the missing condenser immediately and pretending to be searching for leaks. That’s just in order to create youtube-time and it’s annoying as hell.

A few thoughts: 1. There are some AWFUL VW dealers out there and it makes me sad. 2. I suspected something was missing when you said it couldn’t work and when the machine said there wasn’t anything to charge. 3. My dad suggested that it may have been a repo car that the dealer got at auction. So before they repoed it, whoever had it cut the condenser out.

A classic example as to why money spent on a full experts inspection before you buy any car is a must. And that includes brand new cars. some are damaged in transit and then sit around for meonths and parts are removed to repair other cars, hence when they get around to repairing the damage, they don't check that everything still works. This happened to me, and it cost a fortune in lawyers fees to get a refund.

I would lay money that that dealer was trying to sell a wrecked car on the cheap. It probably had some mild front end damage and they just cut that off because it was cheaper to do that than replace it. It looks like they hit it with a pair of bolt cutters, made it pretty and put it on the lot waiting for the next sucker

I can't image someone drives the vehicle for 3 years and nobody noticed the condencer is missing. For 3 years there definitely some services should have been done. This smells like customer is not completely honest.

I've replaced whole 134a systems before and 2k is worth it, even if 1200 of that is labor alone. I've only done a few heater cores and one evaporator core that were simple and easy to do. The worst was a Kia that I had to pull the whole dash from left to right (luckily it had a swivel point making it easier to pull back and later reinstall).

Step one: remove front end. Remove radiator support and radiator. Remove and replace A/C hoses. Install new condenser. Install new compressor. Replace front end, bumper support, bumper cover, etc. Evacuate and recharge system. That will be $2,500. Thank you.

There's 3 versions of the truth; her truth, the dealer's truth, and the actual truth. There's no way to know which is correct. I suspect this was a used car trade-in dealer flip. So who damaged the front end? Did she buy it like that? Or did she crash it and got some temporary shady-tree mechanic fix, with the promise to fix it later due to money issues. Unless we were there we cannot know and lay blame. We don't know the whole story. All we truly know is the lady needs her AC fixed, and like the Wizard and the Dealer said; it's a total system replacement. The only truth for sure is she's out $2K for a fix.

The US Passat is certainly a budget and low quality version of the one offered elsewhere in the world. It seems like it is the old model as well by the look of the instrumentation and not the current B8. And the one sold in Australia where i live, is made in Germany.
@Rextraordinaire
@Rextraordinaire 11 сағат бұрын
Yeah North America got its own version of the Passat after the B6 that is more downmarket and a lot cheaper. It was positioned as an entry level midsize while the CC/Arteon was the higher end one. Upmarket sedans that aren't from a luxury brand are a hard sell here
@TassieLorenzo
@TassieLorenzo 8 сағат бұрын
To be fair, Skoda doesn't exist in the US so the cheapened VW models fill that market role. The US models are physically larger while having a cheaper fit & finish to allow for a low retail price and best align with US buying preferences (cars in the US are (allegedly) purchased based on size): VW Touareg? Expensive and not that big: hard sell despite the sophisticated Q7/Cayenne platform. VW Atlas? Cheap and large, easy sell (in theory). Of course in reality this means you end up with VW's that are not that nice yet which still cost a lot to maintain -- arguably the worse of both worlds!
@Rextraordinaire
@Rextraordinaire 48 минут бұрын
@@TassieLorenzoToyota did something similar by developing the larger Avalon and Solara for the US while the smaller upper end models from Japan's lineup like the Altezza and Soarer were sold here as an entry level Lexus

Condenser - £150, aircon re-gas £50, Labour probably £100 (1h 30m). No more than £250-300 to fix that. So why the dealer couldnt just fix it and sell a fully working car I just dont get. That one sale is clearly worth more than their reputation.

They crimped the A/c lines to keep from getting the rest of the system contaminated. A thief would not bother to do that.
