If anyone has looked into the production of this aircraft, they'll be aware of how modular it is. Meaning they can alter the shape of the wings & tail sections easily for different configurations. You would understand this if you were aware of the production facility that has been built to produce the aircraft. To say it's like something out of the future is an understatement. They're cutting down the usual 4 to 5 years production & testing of wing configurations to 100 days. They're doing this by manufacturing these configurations with the world's most advanced 3D printers. Meaning one version can be built for the Royal Navy, one can be a specialist air to air fighter, one a drone controller & so on. This is massively reducing costs. It's telling all major fighter aircraft producers are now looking to follow this route of production. To say it might be controversial spending the money on this aircraft instead of upgrading the F-35b couldn't be further from the facts. The single main reason the British decided to build their own gen 6 aircraft was the F-35b & it's terrible performance for the costs to keep it flying. Only it would be controversial to mention this fact publicly. The facts are the F-35 in all configurations has been a massive disappointment. It's capabilities aren't anywhere near the expected ones. It isn't only the British who decided to build their own aircraft after receiving the F-35 either. If you think about it, if the F-35 was so good why feel the need to go to all that expense building a completely new aircraft yourself?

Accurately stated …by you. With the F35 the US MICC managed to produce a really expensive poorly performing hanger Queen, that proves that the MICC is all about money …..not about producing a top aircraft.
@seaofenergy2765
@seaofenergy2765 Жыл бұрын
The F35 is not a terrible aircraft in the slightest. Thats a load of bollocks. Its the most state of the art fighter in the air and its extremely small radar cross section, capability to network with other craft, drones and systems, and its highly advanced sensor suite make it far superior to anything else currently in the air. Dogfighting doesnt matter anymore, being able to acquire targets and shoot your missiles before the enemy can even acquire you means you win. Remember in any realistic scenario it will be working in theatre with american aircraft so the connectivity will really come in to play there as well. Theres so much anti-f35 nonsense out there that is stuck in the mentality of yesterdays air wars and misses the point of why its so good.

i like the sleek, minimalistic, clean futuristic look it has. its a good look and a cool name. But, the f-35 tho. it is probably a flop but even so its pretty redundant. the purpose was to make a next generation CAS for a conflict for near peer countries. and you are right to say that a lot of things coming out of America are triple decadent when it comes to logistics. really expensive and costly to maintain. making something practical like tempest with low cost and reduced time really is a way to go... but America does good by its technology. even if its triple redundant and sometimes makes huge financial blunders with its enormous budget. but i dont think the F-35 is entirely useless. just really costly and almost pointless. especially that America will probably never be in a near peer conflict. China if at all. but F-35 is supposed to be the most advanced electronically, with the best radar best spoofing, best missile defense, so and so. i think America could profit from this approach in their defense spending. instead of emphasizing on all the bells and whistles that will probably go over budget and be a logistical nightmare they could try to aim for simplicity and practicality. the tempest looks great. im happy that the UK is on our side. I hope America can try to take note and explore this approach more often instead of spending a pretty penny on everything that looks flashy.

Rolls Royce is also involved.

@@bigstevie1690 Queen Elizabeth class is designed to have catapults installed and the space for the catapults is still under the deck and as the multirole fighter jet would not enter service till 2035. So the idea would be to do the Aircraft carriers mid refits earlier.The multirole fighter jet would not be VSTOL but it would be possible to make a sub variant that uses a similar system to what the harrier used as the multirole fighter jet would be a twin engine fighter jet so if a VSTOL sub variant was designed and developed it would be the first twin engine VSTOL fighter jet and it would also be the first 6th generation VSTOL.Also the Multirole Fighter Jet would not really compete with the F-35 because of it being twin engine and 6th generation and one big major difference is the Multirole fighter jet would have one variant for carrier operations (Catapult) and for land operations similar to the F-18 and F-14 but obviously the VSTOL would have to be a separate variant but the aim would be for both variants to be as similar as possible when it comes to parts so it is like operating one variant Multirole Fighter Jet, Multirole Fighter Jet VSTOL and Tempers but obviously Tempest would be a completely different airframe but would share a lot of parts with the Multirole Fighter Jet for commonality.

Nope, eurofighter was indeed a 4th generation jet, while it is typically unclear what makes a plane different generations, 5th gen normally means it has stealth capabilities. Countries do not need to go through all the generations, and could buy or make a jet of any generation. The UK has also purchased a small number of F-35s, which are 5th gen however as I said you don’t need to go through generations in order.

A jet engine can be made even more powerful without resorting to going over the thermal barrier of the high pressure turbines by simply ionising the efflux and accelerating it with a specially designed high voltage anode. This will increase the speed of the efflux without having to carry coolant or other additives. Also, by modulating the anode the efflux jet can also mask the infra red give away signature so making it difficult to lock on with heat seekers etc.

Given that Tempest project is as much a next-gen technology testbed concept as an actual work-in-progress aircraft design, it's likely that technology from it would be incorporated into a future major upgrade to the F-35 rather than creating an entire new naval version of the Tempest aircraft. (The reason why the F-35 could be upgraded with next-gen technology while the Typhoon couldn't is simply because the F-35 is much newer & designed with future upgrades in mind, whereas the Typhoon is now quite an old design & much less flexible from the get-go.)
