Vice Admiral Rampart appeared to be a rising star in the Galactic Empire. He took on important projects like implementing the chain code program and also project war mantle. Ultimately his actions were all part of a plan... just not his plan... but Emperor Palpatine's.

I think Palpatine plans for multiple eventualities. In this case, he wanted to replace the clones with conscripted soldiers, so he had Rampart push for it in the Senate. Rampart could've succeeded, and the legislation would've passed because of his efforts (Plan A). However, Rampart failed, and Palpatine managed spin it to his advantage and pass the legislation anyway, (Plan B). So basically, I don't think Palpatine planned for the Bad Batch and Chuchi to expose the truth about Camino, but he did have a contingency in place in case it happened. As an added bonus, the clones status as heroes of the war is tarnished, which means fewer people will care about their retirement. He can now just throw them away without the cost of providing for them. But yeah, maybe a clone revolt is brewing.
@joluoto

Palps always have a Plan B, well until he got too arrogant, but that's years from this point.
@MrDibara
@MrDibara Жыл бұрын
@@joluoto And the worst part it, it kinda DOES make sense why he grew arrogant. - he tricked and killed the great Darth Plagueis, stealing his projects in the process - he manipulated the Jedi and the Republic right under their nose for more than 14 years, both as a Senator and as the Chancellor - he played both sides of the Clone Wars right on the palm of his hands, with no one soul on either side ever suspecting that (yes, not even Count Dooku) - he was able to silence and even eliminate anyone who could've possibly revealed the whole plan, be it Fives or Maul - he was successful in manipulating Anakin, the legendary Chosen One of prophecy, into becoming his apprentice, his tool - he managed to erradicate the Jedi Order, the long held wetdream of pretty much every Sith ever - he managed to paint himself the image of a great leader in the eyes of the public - he managed to assassinate, destroy and make do with any connections he might've had with starting the Clone Wars, washing his hands clean from the Separatist leaders, the Kaminoans, the Clones He's done ALL THOSE THINGS and MORE, all while avoiding any real consequences. Yeah, when putting things in that perspective, on top of considering his ever growing old age, I now think it makes more sense why Palpatine by the time of Return of the Jedi was no longer the super cunning manipulator that he was in the Prequels. The in real life explanation is that George Lucas simply hadn't written and developed him that way yet back then, but I think the Prequels and everything later on helpe craft a very good reason for it. His ego overrode his intelligence. After so many (honestly) mindblowing achievements, with little to no real consequences come back to bite him, it is really not that shocking to imagine Palpatine just becoming too arrogant for his own good. He basically started feling he ws invencible, he was untouchable, that he could always spin fate in his hands. In short, his successes got to his head. Couple that with his advanced age and he became a shadow of the true master manipulator he once was.

"The Empire pays me, feeds me, and gives me a roof over my head. That's more than the Republic ever did." Alan, I think you're severely underestimating the power of those words. To that trooper, and to millions more like him in the Outer Rim, the Empire was the only ticket off their dirtball planets, out of poverty. They didn't even *have* any options under the Republic. Even Luke Skywalker was looking forward to attending the *Imperial* academy. Ask anyone who's lived in poverty and has clawed their way out -- actions mean far more than empty promises. The Empire delivered on its promise, and *that* breeds loyalty.

I don't get why they're making it out that Palpatine is trying throw away an army of billions that are better soldiers than any recruit could be. If anything he'd want to keep as many clones as possible and even find another cloning facility to make more before resorting to conscription. I call BS on every other explanation!; Palpatine destroyed Kamino for one reason and one reason only!: The Kaminoans were acting under Dooku’s orders! They knew the Separatist leader created the Clones of the GAR and it created a paper trail that could lead people to wonder where the Clones came from! This trail led to the conspiracy Palpatine started to manufacture the Clone War and increase his own power! It was a small risk but the Kaminoans were a loose end that had to be dealt with. Destroying Tipoca City would destroy the cloning facilities so Palpatine chose to conscript the masses, cutting costs and severing the connection between the Clones and Dooku.

That's true. Cade made the copy in a backup file and told Slip about it, who told Chuchi, who told Rex, who told the Batch. Still, Rampart was emotionally tone-deaf for not realizing a LOT of the clones would have problems with blowing up their own homewold and wiping out most of the Kaminoan race. Even if the Kaminoans were collectively kind of abusive "parents", they were still the clones' creators and provided all their care in childhood.

Palpatine really knew the perfect Jedi to goad into attacking him too. Mace Windu also was a failure at following the Jedi code (flawed as it was before EU Luke Skywalker reformed it) because Mace Windu loved the Republic. So when he found out that the Republic he so believed in was being controlled by the Sith his most hated enemy he was so blinded he didn't pause to consider the consequences of his actions and how he and his fellow Jedi could be branded as traitors no matter whether the arrest or assassination of Palpatine succeeded or not. In fact I think even if Mace managed to kill Palpatine at least himself and maybe the entire order might still have been branded as criminals because Mace wasn't patient enough to gather evidence of Palpatine's crimes and create the environment where the Senate and the public would be willing to listen and accept such evidence... Total failure and Yoda's wisdom also failed. I guess they needed a few more politically wise Jedi at the top of the Council or at least closely advising them!

That’s the trouble with any sort of formalized church&state mixture like the Republic had. The Jedi would have been excellent in a purely advisory role in politics and as volunteer units in the military, but integrating them into both as leaders led to a bad situation for the order and the Republic. The government and military were hamstrung by Jedi incompetence as commanders and politicians, and the Jedi were corrupted by the power and influence granted to them.

You also forget that Windu was too tunnel vision to see what was really going on. He and Yoda were far too close minded and too focused on winning the war. His arrogance was his undoing
@Tippotipo

That is an excellent points. Palpatine easily took advantage of Jedi Council own stupidities and arrogance meaning Order 66 would still happen without Anakin. The latter was a case of Jedi Order giving a gift to Palpatine on a silver plate without realizing it. Windu own jealousy toward Anakin in term of popularity for the Republic and his blind love of Republic to get recognition was his own demise. Some people thinking Jedi Council killing Palpatine would somewhat stop Sith plan were naive forgetting that Jedi Order were seen in a bad light for a while and someone else would summon Order 66 like Palpatine personal bodyguard.

You could pin it on Tarkin at best, but even this is a longshot. in the Tarkin Novel Count Dooku and a Rebel Group of former Republic Intelligence Agents used doctored Holo Footages to broadcast Propaganda, this would have been easily cast aside as Rumors, an Investigation would have been launched by Palpatine which would ofcourse only leads to a Conspiracy lead by Rampart. Nothing was gained by accusations, just because they were the truth.

In the Military, there are 2 types of officers: rank and file line officers, and career high flyers who serve as staff officers. Rampart is the latter, a paper general marked for fast track advancement. They are usually very arrogant and insufferable too sure of themselves. Those who served in the military would have known and seen his type around.

Actually, having clones and recruits fight together was how the Empire did things in the old canon. The 501st Legion and other clone units worked together with recruits, whom they called "new meat". Even up to the Battle of Endor, around a quarter of all Stormtroopers were Fett clones, and some of them were left over from the Clone Wars. It was a logical form of tyranny that in another time, would've been seen as business as usual. The new canon is written by people who despise the Empire, and so, from Operation Cinder to the disposal of Clone Troopers, they're just made to be evil for evil's sake.

Noticed the thumbnail says "Rampart got played". THAT is an understatement. Palpatine was already intent on replacing the clones. He just needed an excuse to do it. Rampart delivered it on a silver platter with that dumbass move of destroying Tipoca City. Only setback as far as Palpatine was concerned was the loss of the cloning facilities. He probably had plans to neutralize those who were aware of the clones' Inhibitor Chips and Order 66 to cover his ass, but Rampart, and by extension Tarkin, spared him the trouble. Losing that infrastructure was a small price to pay to tie up loose ends.

This were an intense ending to the first half of the season. There's no question we are coming to a Clone uprising, or a purge before the uprising gets going. And once again we learn Palpatine was two steps ahead, ready to take advantage of the situation no matter which way things went.
@Okada_Caelun
@Okada_Caelun Жыл бұрын
I always liked the idea that Palpatine, rather than twenty moves ahead of everyone else, was rather more of a master of taking advantage of any situation. Like, he would have been fine if the CIS won the Clone Wars, and may have even favored their victory over the Republic, but was more than prepared with a hundred backup-plans in case any single thing went wrong. That rather than Order 66 and one hundred forty nine red herrings, Palpatine had a specific contingency in mind for EVERY order written on the biochips. Who is to say that the upcoming clone rebellion won't be dealt with in such a simple fashion as "Order 72". This does mean that Order 66, as it happened, was a panic-move rather than a master-stroke. Perhaps he hadn't expected Anakin to tattle on him to Mace Windu, and now that he had five Jedi masters dead with their last known location being Coruscant, being delicate was no longer an option.

It really would make way more sense for the Clones to be made Senior NCOs, Officers etc and used to train and lead the Imperial military. On the other hand, I'm surprised that Palps isn't just tossing the clones into battle after battle to whittle them down so he doesn't have to worry about their retirement.

I think Rampart learnt the hard way that if you live by deception, you will fall by deception. Him stating that he was just following orders reminds me of the Nuremberg defence that many German officials and soldiers invoked when tried for war crimes during WW2. I like the idea of Palpatine manufacturing consent by creating the necessary conditions. Would be interesting if someone analysed his political career using Herman and Chomsky’s Manufacturing Consent model.

The complaints of "filler" come from people being trained on 10 episode seasons that all focus on the story arc. They then complain about a lack of character development and Mary/Gary Sue's. In the past, most of the character building came from so called "filler" episodes, so when you got to the main event you actually cared about the characters, they felt fully formed, and their decisions and actions had weight and ramifications. Tech has benefited greatly from these "filler" episodes . For example, we saw him put his Riot Racing skills to the test this week with the escape pod, um, escape. The "filler" episodes laid the ground work for Echo's eventual decision. And we have seen Omega's outlook on life evolving through them. Bring on the "filler" episodes I say. They truly enrich the characters and the overall story

i gotta say, I disagree when it comes to the loyalty question. ES-01 had a realistic reason to be loyal to the Empire over the Republic and is exactly the kind of reason a ton of guys join the military for. Loyalty isn't just blind belief in dogma like Rampart has, but also mundane reasons like security and providing for oneself or one's family. Also, all I'm saying is we haven't seen any of these humans defect just yet.

I couldn’t help but realize that in this episode, Palpatine is the most frightening he’s ever been. In the movies he has the big dark hood to cover his face, or chunky looking makeup. But when he comes out onto the senate floor here, with the music playing, and the way he talks, he felt powerful and it made me genuinely uneasy. That is why animation is so great in my eyes.

Palpatine's schemes are often intricately designed, that any attempt to foil them only gives him a convenient excuse to implement them. We've seen him do this during the Clone Wars, not only destroying any chance of a truce with the Confederacy, but reinforcing the resolve on both sides to continue fighting.

I have experienced this personally albeit on a much smaller scale. I was relieved of duty as a Recruit Company Commander (Navy version of a Drill Instructor) For being too harsh on my recruits. Now, I will admit that there were instances where I did go "R Lee Earmy" On a recruit but these never came to light. They were extreme reactions to extreme situations ("I'm with the crips! Mess with me and I will have your family killed!" In front of my entire company! So yes, I did "Go full R Lee Earmy" in that case but it never made it on the record) What did happen was a review board acted surprised and outraged over too many push ups here, too many sit-ups there, running them a little too fast here. People I had personally witnessed exceeded my most radical actions several times over AND for trivial reasons to boot! So yes, this action of Palapatine has some demonstration on what happens in the real world
