TO CLEAN THE FLOOR WITHOUT TOO MUCH ENERGY use a concrete polisher, or a large sander to sand the entire floor. The stone tiles will 'come back to life' and shine with their original colour and all the glue will be gone. Then re-grout the floor and seal the entire floor with a sealant which will make it look like new. Good luck and I love your videos. Thank you for sharing. PAUL IN SCOTLAND UK

agree! I had to do something very similar with a wall and ended up using a sanding machine and it did get all the glue off. I bought it at a hardware store for only $150 - totally worth it and saved a huge amount of time after trying for many many hours hand doing it with a scraper 😅

I agree it may be time to switch to abrasives, even a small handheld sander that can get into the corners would be a great test to see if it works.
@nandayoo
@nandayoo Жыл бұрын
indeed once that stuff gets into to porous structure of these tiles the only thing you can do is to sand off the affected layer... gravity doesn't help you remove that stuff from essentially a spongy material - you can dilute the stuff with all sorts of abrasives, acids... but it wil still leave the stain & possibly by diluting the glue it will push it further into the structure... - sanding it off is the only way - work smarter not harder!

@@leaw For the kitchen floor, how about renting a large professional floor sander, the type pro companies use to refinish wood floors. You just walk it along & it does all the work. I suggest to install a toilet that has the bidet built in, placed where bidet is now near the tub, that will give you lots of extra floor & counter space to the left of the sink.

Renovated a 400 yr old farm house in france. The original kitchen floor was used by donkeys and lots of the tiles were deeply cracked and marked. But after sometime, lots of frustrated tears and questions why I was doing it, it was so beautiful in the end. I loved it although visitors said I should have had a new floor. Did these people ever know me😂. Hugs to the little one

Consulting a flooring specialist is a good idea. You might be able to use a heavy buffing machine with a grinding pad and grit to “polish” the floor. This method was widely used in the US to remove wax buildup on commercial floors. Whatever the outcome, you will find a way to make it work.

Good afternoon, this floor is called "hydraulic tile" it is very porous, what is dissolved on one side is introduced into the other, the best way is to let it dry very well, and with a 120 mm sanding machine and 80 mm sanding discs. Gratefully sand it, being careful not to go deep into the color layer, then vacuum it and wash it with water and a soap for terrazzo floors, last layer, give it water with floor wax, good job.

Absolutely save that floor! Get a buffer or sander with light grit and that should remove the worst of the glue. Then use a tile wax or coat with a sealer with the level of sheen you want from matte to very shiny. It is an old floor, so it will never be perfect but after all, it is a 1,000 year old house with character! I still can’t get over how good this house is for 1 euro! Most of them are complete ruins with no views and end up costing way more than comparable values of the community. You really lucked out! Thanks for sharing!

ALSO my wife wants to tell you to place the bathroom sink in the corner (as you enter) and to shift the toilet sideways (with a small backing wall), which will create a bigger space. Forza!👊🏻

As an old house lover I hope you will RESTORE this home rather than RENOVATE it! They do not build lovely homes like this any longer. I’m an American and we rip out beautiful old fixtures, built ins and tile only to replace it all with ugly laminate/plastic flooring, grey generic tile and gallons of white paint all from Home Depot big box store to emulate television “Flip Your House” shows from designers that care nothing for historical homes. Your home is so special I hope you honor her instead of gutting her. This takes many years and is a labor of love, just like a long relationship with your partner. Love and best wishes from the Pacific Northwest, USA. ❤

You a very lucky to have found that kitchen floor and the kitchen floor is very lucky that you found it! Many people would have torn the old tiles out and the house would have been poorer without them. You are the perfect custodians for such an historic property

I think the floor will look amazing. The imperfections are what gives it character. The glue of course must go. The old look is so important to remain intact. Style your interior design around the architecture. It will be a work of love and artistry.

Great work guys. For the stone floor, I have being using a floor grinder, a machine that is normally being rented. These can use different type of grinding discs, for wood, concrete or stone. It can be tricky to use for a novice, in this case with a small room I would have a pro to do it. To improve the stones natural colour and durability after grinding and polishing a sealer/impregnator can to be applied. You can also use linseedoil or nautralwax to improve the stones looks and surface, check with your local stone & granite monger for these products. All the best.

Design idea for the kitchen: avoid the mistake made in our house, don't block the light, even make it a space for some plants (but not tall enough to block the light), short shelves under the window would be useful. Lots of counterspace, always useful. Also, the kitchen tiles look rough and not slippery when wet whereas the rest of the tiles in the livingroom and bedroom could be slippery when wet. With cooking and washing dishes, there is lots of opportunity for water, soapy water and maybe a bit of oil, to land on the floor and make it slippery so if the tiles are kept rough, that will prevent slipping. Coating them with something that will make the floor tiles as smooth as the wall tiles could lead to slip and fall, a rough surface is what I recommend. I must admit, that as a Canadian who doesn't have any European experience, it is hard for me to imagine what the house will look like when finished because it is so, so, so different from what I'm used to.

Good to see you guys and your mama. Glad everyone is well. That's the most important thing. I would rent an industrial sander- levigatrice industriale-at this point. Or now, having a more level surface, maybe tile over it! If you sand it you will have to put on a new glaze because even with the acetone it is making it porous. Things like this really make me think of what to do. Good thing is that the rest of the house is looking great.

Please don´t sand the tiles, they are so beautiful, you will otherwise destroy them. It is a very tedious and hard work to get them back to life, but you are on the right way! They go very well with the tiles on the wall, it pays tribute to the people living in the house before. Go on you will be very happy once it is done. Thumbs up! I am an studied architect and learned carpenter from South Africa now living in Berlin! Second life - your motto is also mine being 60* Love you!

Steam will make the glue soft and stop it re-sticking, and also will not mark the tiles. A wallpaper type steamer may well make it much easier, hope that helps and thanks for the videos :)
