I think he's incredibly dumb (I was gonna say dishonest but listening on, I don't think that's the case) and a bit of an uncle tom. I find it incredible he seems to think the left believes that black people are the *ONLY* group that is ever marginalized. If he doesn't believe that then most of his arguments are pure whataboutisms that contribute nothing. He dismisses statistical evidence time and time again but relies on Destiny to do the heavy lifting and research his own points. There's a black conservative woman I'd love to see Destiny debate I can't remember her channel name but she (tree of logic) seems smart. Would love to see an actual honest debate
@neonbarnowl6 жыл бұрын
You're right, generally I'd agree but he bends over backwards to say that if something that disproportionately effects black people also happens to white people regardless of it's scale then it somehow discredits unjust treatment. I'll say I wouldn't ever use it as an argument to his face but the fact is racist people love using *his* arguments. That's extremely damaging. I'm glad Destiny decided to have another debate with him and I hope ABL agrees to a third with a more structured format so they aren't talking over each other. (and so ABL can actually pull up his own sources etc.)

He did it against Naked Ape when he brought up the study in FL [(after Naked Ape refuted the study, 'Well I think I'll trust the college educated scientist, blah blah blah' (paraphrasing, of course)], and he just did it in this debate with the dispute over housing discrimination. As a matter of fact, he literally blended an appeal to authority _and_ a bandwagon appeal, "Look at _all_ these college educated people who disagree," completely ignoring Anthony's point. Christopher Alford if it's happening and it's illegal then where are the arrests? 🤔
@Avenger2226 жыл бұрын
Not everything "illegal" ends in arrests. A bank or organization doesn't get "arrested". Here's some examples of recent (last 3 years) examples of redlining discrimination against Black people: On September 24, the U.S. Justice Department announced a settlement with Hudson City Savings Bank for close to $33 million after an investigation found that it was avoiding doing mortgage business with African Americans and Latinos between 2009 and 2013. The Justice Department calls it the “largest residential mortgage redlining settlement in its history.” As U.S. Attorney Paul Fishman explained to Emily Badger for The Washington Post, “[i]f you lived in a majority-black or Hispanic neighborhood and you wanted to apply for a mortgage, Hudson City Savings Bank was not the place to go.” The bank serviced one of the largest housing markets in the nation, covering mortgages throughout New Jersey, New York, and even Philadelphia. But the bank went out of its way not to set up any branches in minority neighborhoods. As part of the settlement, Hudson City will have to open two full-service branches in non-white communities. On September 10, New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman settled with Evans Bank for $825,000 after discovering that the bank erased black neighborhoods from maps used for determining mortgage lending. According to Schneiderman, of the over 1,100 mortgage applications the bank received between 2009 and 2012, only four were from African Americans. The Buffalo News reports that other banks in the area could be flagged next for redlining. In May, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development announced a $200 million settlement with Associated Bank over redlining in Chicago and Milwaukee. The HUD complaint said that the bank denied mortgage loans to black and Latino applicants between 2008 and 2010. As in the Hudson City case, Associated Bank will have to open new branches in predominantly black and brown communities. Please research redlining without resorting to confirmation bias and cognitive bias. You're not being honest or you're remaining willfully ignorant to the truth and I have no idea why.

If you really want to make that false equivalence between the 2 then you’re most likely the kind of person who doesn’t bother to do any leg work or research of your own, or you pretend to be a moderate on everything to refrain from taking a stance on anything. If you did research on redlining and how it negatively impacted the black community disproportionately...then how could you watch the first 15 minutes of this debate and claim that ABL and Destiny are guilty of the same bs? Even if you’re not aware of the subject being debated...how can you hear the logical gaps ABL has in his argument and really say this guy wasn’t being disingenuous? Destiny isn’t infallible, but I’m not gonna act like he’s ABL or No Bullshit.

Wow Destiny... You're ridiculous... You really let your true colors go here... It's sad all those smarts are being thrown away to assume so much . it's ALL about individuals and individual examples .. You think we look at groups but guess what groups are made out of. There is nuance .. He's a black representative absolutely? He's a part of the black community and he clearly represents the place in the total of black people. I think you are taking his points as conclusions and not just letting the context be what it is... I mean if you cared about black people and their freedoms and dignity you would talk to him the way he mostly is talking to you, calmly .. He's from a single family household.. He's from poverty . his family is from slavery and Jim Crowe. Just horrible the hatred you have ... It's ugly and you need to take some of that book smarts and explore your heart and spirituality.. Idk what I believe but I know that I have a line.. As much as you signal .. Your nature is clearly negative.. And the hypothetical stuff you postulate upon is very dead. You need love to move race relations.. So you scream at someone and belittle them and call them names.. ?? You debate in a slimey way Btw last talk you said black people don't make bad choices then you just said the blacks make worse choices with food and eating habits ... Individuals... I think your problem is you have no idea who YOU are ... And you kinda just act like you know everything about the black experience more than this man... I think you don't have a clue and you just want people to like you .. I'm not saying this to be mean either ! Really I wish you nothing but good fortune and I hope you have a change of heart . maybe you should talk with someone just without any political things or anything.. Just about what you feel ? Ill EVEN TALK TO YOU brother... I'm sorry if anything i said hurt your feelings but you need to move past the past and into the future .. Make your own contributions instead of this cause you are smart ! But you don't seem very wise ! Hey I'm not a genius and I only say these things cause I can see them a mile away. I just feel like you could be doing so much more and make something great !? ABL I'm sorry for the treatment cause I thought it was very uncalled for and you were getting stopped and he was definitely trying to reframe everything you said to get you to slip up or get you to say something considerably similar like poor environments and black environments, I don't think there is anywhere to go with bringing up the past and blaming white people .. As much as he said he wasn't blaming them it's like if my grandparents could come here and make a successful transition from another country like so many immigrants do .. Why can't blacks largely do it after 2 generations in modern society... It just is what it is and we got to help individuals and work for 100 and not fall apart when we are operating at 99% ... We got this people ! 1
@FORGDEDELILT4 жыл бұрын
Directly on point, the individual is the greatest minority there can be thus the individuals experience is what has to be talked about and viewed. There were a on the street interviews asking college aged liberals why the black community could are “discriminated” against in terms on voting. The liberals said blacks weren’t able to acquire gov IDs and can’t call 911 because of police brutality. The interviewer then went to an inner city and asked the local blacks if they had IDs and if they know how to get them. They obviously said yes, and if they were victims of police brutality they said no, they were positive about police in their neighborhoods. My question is why are blacks considered too stupid to get IDs and why are blacks assumed to be hunted by police when the individual experience is against the spoken liberal narrative? Frankly the hoods should be policed more because there are higher levels of neighbors attacking neighbors and police aren’t called upon due to snitching mentality. Black people aren’t held down by systemic racism but crime mentality within their neighborhoods, of which those same blacks can make the decision to allow their environment to make them criminals or violent resulting in police targeting or decide to avoid criminality and move. I recommend better individual decisions as a whole.

@shinyhaunter60194 жыл бұрын
@Eric Hawkins well I understand what you are saying but you have to understand that we are trying to break a system of behavior from not only bad policing but also through poor personal choices . a lot of those are unfortunately a direct influence from black "leaders" and the media fear mongering and making a infrequent horrible occurrence of a perceivable hate crime , as the standard of what ALL black men will experience in this country.. That leads to hate and disobedience by blacks towards the police abd then that leads to the police being more aggressive ... It's not right what Al Sharpton and those FOOLS do to the black community.. Wearing 10k suits while talking about the struggle of the black man... They are basically preachers and capitalising off the sins of the past and the fear that they program into the hearts of men... MOST police are trying to do the right things... Most black people are trying to get by and succeed .. But without fathers for leadership they are left with overwhelmed mothers and these fake race baiting sellouts to teach them cultural and moral values ... And that's where again the violence perpetuates between the police and the black community as well as blacks and other blacks... It's sad and I don't like arguing with people cause I know there are some horrible people out there.. But 1%? 5%... You can't pretend like racism is this HUGE issue.. It's the same things that happen to poor whites or drug addicts of ALL colors .. Read my response to the other person.. I know there are problems on both sides... But blaming all whites as racist and all cops as racist is moronic and not statistically close to reality... We need to work together

ABL is correct about education spending actually. Per-pupil spending has not been a good measure of student performance by any metric. Much of the issues surrounding school education, especially in poor areas, have to do with bad teachers who do not present any value-added. Issues outside of school are super important too. Some of the most predictive educational inputs are actually in peer reviewing teachers to illuminate better teaching styles, replacing chronically under performing teachers among other things. For those interested in education policy, look into the Fryer et. al studies. One was done in 2013 on a bunch of schools in Harlem, NY (I believe they primarily looked at charter schools), and then Fryer implemented what he found in 2014 at the 20 worst schools in Houston, Texas. Really cool, illuminating studies on some of the solutions we can explore to improve our education systems.

That's what is so fucking scary. You have a fuckload of children and teens that are being exposed to shit that they cannot possibly truly understand. I never thought I'd ever say this shit. Maybe it's because I always had an inquiring mind, but many people don't. They'll end up believing shit that has been debunked a very long time ago as something new and revolutionary. Like the racist science crap. That isn't new. It wasn't even new 100 years ago. It goes as far back as at least the late 18th century and the proponents of all of these ideas have ALWAYS misused, misrepresented, butchered, and outright lied about whatever science was available at the time in order to support their ideas. They also fabricate history to twist it to their own beliefs. Things we take for granted now are extremely new. Nations are new, the concept of race as we think of it is radically new (and always changing). National myths that people in the past believed are completely different than what they are today (and are being ruined even further by assholes like Black Pigeon Speaks), and a million other things. The funniest thing is, many of the people in the Alt-Right aren't even what they think they are. I'm in Canada, there are many alt-righters up here who weren't born in Canada and many didn't even have natural born Canadian parents... they are either first-generation immigrants themselves or children of first generation immigrants. Yet they claim that somehow the country was built entirely by them or their ancestors when by the time they arrived the nation was quite well-built, thank you very much.

This kind of delusion is almost unbelievable I kind of understand ABL's point of view though, he wants to deny that redlining (etc.) has negatively affected black people because he believes that constantly telling marginalised people that bad circumstances in their past are the reason for their current circumstances isn't the best way to help those marginalised people - but he's unable to see that denying the facts of history is by far far worse than just telling those marginalised people that they're able to rise above whatever circumstances they've suffered through Interesting debate, seeing into the mind of a typical conservative, mostly what I got from this is that the level of delusion from these types of people is pretty shocking

66f4e5 I get what you are saying. Idk if he was denying though. Destiny is just bad at holding debates so they both look like shit at the end of it. I actually agree with Destiny a lot in this debate but he runs shit shows and it is all because of his actions and his inability to control himself.

Re the OP -- I can understand why rumination on inequality (past or present) can be counterproductive. Sometimes it can make me feel hopeless; but I agree that the answer isn't denial of its existence, either. I refuse to see myself as anyone's victim, although there have been times I've been victimized because -- hey, I'm a small brown woman who was born in a bad part of the South Bronx. However, whether people call it "my lived experience" (Democrats) or "an anecdote" (Republicans) it's not data. And I've seen both sides present it as if it were data. And this is easy to do, when it's one's own lived experience or anecdote. I guess it's why I don't like the extremes on either side of the political divide. . .
@jasonc00655 жыл бұрын
@@zxyatiywariii8 that's one reason I like Adeola. No extremes.
@RoseEyed5 жыл бұрын
I completely agree! But I think he misunderstands the reason why people point out those circumstances. For example, regarding quality of education: It's not to be "see the educational system where you live sucks so you're gonna be a loser for the rest of your life. Just steal a bunch of stuff instead." It's to go "because the educational system is bad, it's going to increase the likelihood these people aren't going to succeed. They'll be less likely to get good jobs, and more likely to resort to crime. So in order to prevent that... We should try to improve the educational system." But ABL's view is to just ignore the problems in the educational system and tell people to "just study harder" and if they fail the class it's because "you made bad choices and didn't study hard enough."
