To those people who aren't aware, Avril is a huge star in Japan. She is so big to the point where she has to record Girlfriend in Japanese. She also sang anime openings in one of One Piece movies and Annie Leonhart's character design from attack on titan was also inspired by her. She is also the first western artist in Japanese history to have three albums in a row to sell over a million copies in Japan. Avril has also lived in Japan for a few years, can speak little Japanese, and has multiple clothing line store in Japan. It make sense why Avril made Hello Kitty (and the fact that her directors, producers, etc. are all Japanese while making this vid) because her career wouldn't be as big as she is now without the help of her Japanese fans, hence I doubt she made Hello Kitty out of mockery.

My personal "7 Years" trauma was some years ago in English class. We were all allowed to listen to music while writing a short story and this guy sitting next to me ONLY listened to 7 Years by Lukas Graham for the entire hour we were given. He turned the volume up so high I could hear it through his headphones and through mine. It was funny at first but when he kept on going I just began to lose my mind, but after enduring it for 30 minutes I couldn't just suddenly tell him that NOW it was too much, so I had to passively listen to him blasting his eardrums with the same annoying song for another 30 minutes straight.

How do y'all *hate* 7 years? 😭 Am I just too easy to please I think it sounds good. Like many of the songs on this list I've never had a problem with it
@nyct1b1us6 ай бұрын
@@RozKounelakion my personal opinion as someone who doesn't like it, the lyrics tell a completely made up sob story that markets itself as real, keeping that in mind while listening to the song just ruins the emotional tone it aims for, also I find the singer's voice annoying, and while he does a decent job at selling the emotion, I just can't stand to listen to it. When it comes to emotional pop ballads, which i'd argue inherently have an emphasis on tone, vocals, and lyricism, this song fails in the aspects it is supposed to excel in and emphasize. While I don't think it is the worst song (as a musician, I think the chord progression for a sad song is pretty neat, and the instrumentation is decent), and I'd easily listen to it over something like Game Over by Falling in Reverse, or the far, far worse Lukas Graham song, Strip No More, it just isn't a good song IMO. There are simply better emotional pop ballads out there. If you like it, that's fine. That's your opinion, your enjoyment, and it doesn't affect my opinion or lack of enjoyment just like mine shouldn't really effect yours. And if you want another opinion on it, i'd recommend watching Brad's review of the album it comes from, Lukas Graham.
@RozKounelakion6 ай бұрын
@@nyct1b1us idk aren't like all song sob stories made up? And what is made up about 7 years isn't the song about the guy saying what he hopes his life is like as he grows old? Did his mom not really tell him to make some friends when he was 7 is that what we're mad about
@nyct1b1us6 ай бұрын
@@RozKounelakion no, not all song sob stories are made up, who told you that? I'd love to see a source on that. I'm sure some are like 7 years (I can think of one other example at least), but some aren't. I appreciate and find *more* overall enjoyment in ones that come from an actual genuine place of experience. For example, the entire Twin Fantasy album by Car Seat Headrest is a great example of a song with a heartbreaking story that comes from a genuine place, especially the song Beach Life-in-Death. Listened to the whole thing yesterday in tears. The lyrics for Beach Life-in-Death are heartbreaking, poetic, relatable, and the fact that they come from a place of authenticity increases the emotionality they carry and invoke. There's something about the fact that an actual human being going through something tragic and painful and putting it into art that increases the tragedy and pain of the art they make. I don't really know how else to describe it. Also, I will rescind the statement I said earlier about the song being completely made up especially after watching his genius interview. For the most part, this song does seem to come from a place of authenticity. He gets points for that, my bad. Coincidentally, his mom actually did never tell him to make friends according to his genius interview lol. Anyway, want to clarify, I'm not mad at the song. Some people are; I am not one of them. So there is no "we" who are "mad" at anything currently (unless someone who is wants to join in this chain). That all being said, even though the song is provably authentic, I still don't like it. Going back to my personal standard for what qualifies as a good emotional pop ballad, especially one with a lyrical and vocal focus like this one, I find his voice incredibly grating to the ears and cannot enjoy his emotional delivery of any of the lyrics. Once again, and I cannot emphasize this enough, it all boils down to personal preference. I'm not going to listen to the song because I don't like his voice; my dislike for his voice is enough to make me dislike the song. I believe I said something similar in my original reply, but I'll say it again: if you like the song, his voice, the lyrics, then that's your preference, your opinion. Don't let my opinion, which is the opposite of yours, interfere with that. I don't care that you like the song. That objectively doesn't affect me (unless you want to make it affect me by like, idk, trying to kill me because I don't like it like you do, then that affects me). Just wanted to explain why I don't because you asked. Anyway, if you read all of this, hope you have a great day.
@RozKounelakion6 ай бұрын
@@nyct1b1us ay you have a good day too bro. Surprisingly Avril Lavigne's Hello Kitty wasn't a totally random cash-grab. It was a cash-grab, however Lavigne was immensely popular in Japan, so it made sense from a business perspective. Not sure if that makes it better or worse, but how many other earworm songs can do that? The biggest problems with the fallout boy's version is a) it fucks up the format (the original was largely in chronological order, this one jumps all over the place), and b) its got quite a bit of just "touchstone's" and not "societal ill" which then completely manks up the chorus.

In defense of the Ken voice in the Barbie song! As a former little girl who played with barbie dolls, whenever i wanted to talk for Ken i would juet make my voice sound as deep as possible to make a 'guy voice.' Many of my little girl friends also did this for Ken/boy dolls. So i always pictured that was what was happening in the barbie song!
@zeropluslessthan5126 Жыл бұрын
Also the song is clearly about sex as a commodity / objectification of women, so how would Ken be not a creep in such a song?
@babyxblue11 ай бұрын
@@zeropluslessthan5126 Yeah, I always assumed that Ken in the context of the song was portraying some sort of ultra masculine archetype to contrast with Barbie's act, so the voice made sense. Hot take: I don’t think a song’s popularity should factor into bracket performance. Instead of selecting a song because it’s “inescapable”, ask yourself which song you would prefer to be inescapable. Suggestion for next bracket: “Among Us in Real Life” by Rebecca Zamolo
@chabetto Жыл бұрын
nah among us in real life is a banger, squid game could be in best songs bracket
@solo._.dude15 Жыл бұрын
As much as I think I'd like for that to be a factor in a vacuum, I don't really think that can work just because there are so many songs that people hate simply because their memories with it are rooted in excess radio/store play. Song like High Hopes by P!ATD or Friday by Rebecca Black or Baby by Justin Beiber are not as immediately bad from front to back as something like Fack, sure, but I do think it's entirely fair to immediately despise one of the first three more due to subjective and commonplace experience because music is swayed by the time and place you experience it. Placing yourself in a situation where "Fack" would be getting as much radio play is completely unrealistic and would therefore break down a whole lot of this bracket from "really bad songs you've probably never heard mixed with songs you probably remember for being annoying and everywhere" to "really bad songs you've probably never heard". I just don't think this bracket would be anywhere near as relatable and fun if all of the songs were actually just garbage with next to no common play anywhere and culturally a lot of the "bad" of songs are defined by the situations in which they are used (like the mmm whatcha say song being turned into a meme because of it being made fun of and popularized by that one SNL skit, making that song nigh on unlistenable now).

There’s an issue of context; Japanese people enjoying a bad song about Japanese culture is very different from Americans enjoying a weeb song fetishizing Japanese culture. Oh wow, interesting fact about the Hello Kitty Avril Lavigne song, she's actually literally SO fucking big in Japan. I'm just going to copy paste the comment I saw under the official video; "To those people who aren't aware, Avril is a huge star in Japan. It make sense why Avril made Hello Kitty (and the fact that her directors, producers, etc. are all Japanese while making this vid) because her career wouldn't be as big as she is now without the help of her Japanese fans, hence I doubt she made Hello Kitty out of mockery."
@TheRareVideosXL Жыл бұрын
