1970... I am 16 years old at the "Strawberry Festival" in O.C. Calif.. and saw this band live. After doing a show in San Diego, on the bus to L.A. they were told about the festival, so they stopped, seeing a stage Ozzy Volunteered to play a couple, they had the guitars and a drum kit was there... So.. Unscheduled, unannounced, unexpected. Black Sabbath did.... "Iron Man"... "Paranoid"... "The Wizard"... "War Pigs"... to about a crowd of 5,000.... It was awesome. Right place at the right time.

It’s always a safe bet to listen to the original version instead of remastered. We all fell in love with the original. Also, when reacting to a live performance, it’s better to watch it from the era that the song was recorded instead of many years after. You want to see the musicians in their prime

I was a kid and heard this on my dad’s vinyl album and I was hooked! They were absolutely the forefathers of heavy-metal but their music was so heavily influenced by jazz and blues music. This was one of those bands that everyone came together perfectly and it was once in a lifetime and it changed everything. 🤟🏼

Black Sabbath were an English rock band formed in Birmingham in 1968 by guitarist Tony Iommi, drummer Bill Ward, bassist Geezer Butler and vocalist Ozzy Osbourne. They are often cited as pioneers of heavy metal music. The band helped define the genre with releases such as Black Sabbath, Paranoid and Master of Reality. NOBODY has ever done it better.

Iron Man is one of many Sabbath classics. Sabbath is huge rabbit hole, tons of classic tunes. I would suggest War Pigs (studio version), one of the greatest anti-war protest songs ever. Then Hand of Doom, another great lyric (Geezer, the bassist, wrote most of the lyrics). Hand of Doom also swings like crazy, awesome drum song, their rhythm section can swing like crazy. Also hear the War Pigs live in Paris (1970?) for very intense live version (early wrong lyrics). Hard to describe Sabbath briefly, guitarist Tony Iommi is the "riff master", the inventor of heavy metal, the musical leader & main composer. Bill the drummer is a monster hard player and swings hard too. Geezer is legendary bassist and one of best lyricists ever. And their singer is Ozzy Osbourne btw, who had a real gift for melodies and super unique powerful voice. Best advice, listen to their first 6 albums all the way thru.

The typical process for a Classic Rock band is for a member to have a concept for lyrics and write something they believe will be a hit song, or make a statement without much concern for hit value. (Lennon-Dylan-Others) Then they will start playing the basic cord structure and develop the melody. Usually the Rhythm Section is established first with the Bass setting what the Drummer follows with beat and fills. Guitars/Keyboards/Others are added on the foundation with each member adding what they feel is right for the song. OR... it is the guitar riffs/keyboard melody that everything is built around. Most importantly it is all real musicians playing real instruments. The end results sometimes are songs like this one. The level of musicianship is exceptional with the best of the best groups. They earned the recognition they now receive from us very grateful fans. Why we call it “Classic Rock”

@@AliasMark69 Of all the generations, the Baby Boomer generation (IMHO) was the greatest. We got to see TV's go from B/W to color, man landing on the moon, playing outside on our bicycles all day, parents who didn't have (or want) a clue on how to control us, police that poured out your under-aged liquor rather than arresting you, and of course the most incredible music ever invented. Sample some Black Sabbath. Instant hit, instant new genre. There is a treasure trove of funky, heavy riffs in those days, especially with the English bands. Don’t know why no one has done that. I have two black mates in London, brought up on Motown and reggae, then I introduced them to English early 70’s rock, they now love it and have for years. Music is no discriminator,it loves everyone.
