Thanks Ray, for reacting to this song. My Dad was a veteran (Navy). There is only so much I can do as an individual, but when I go to a restaurant, and I see someone in uniform, whether military or law enforcement, I try to pick up their check anonymously as a thanks for their sacrifice. We owe so much to these folks, and they deserve our highest respect. Thanks again, brother. KP

Buying a meal is a lovely way to express gratitude . Like you I can only do what I can afford so I always carry $ 5.00 coupons for McDonald's or other fast food restaurants and give them to anyone in uniform. I wish it could be more and maybe one day it will be . God bless our men and women in uniform. ❤

I am 62 years old now and I was 20 years old when I served in the 2nd Battalion B Company of the Parachute Regiment and fought at Goose Green in the Falklands War 1982. I lost good friends there and saw many horrific things on both sides in the battles of Goose Green and Darwin all of which still haunt me to this day. I left the army after that as I had my fill with war, or I thought I had, as many years later I would experience it again. I couldn’t cope with life in the UK as everyone thought you were a hero, yet I didn’t feel like a hero, just numb and I think people who have served in battle will know the feeling. Anyway, I started to travel the world and over two years I had been to over thirty countries and felt refreshed and clean again. I met a Polish girl on my travels and fell in love and moved to Poland and that was in 1989. I have been here since then living my life quietly and happily until Putin decided to invade Ukraine and as I have many friends there it has affected us deeply. We have lost two good friends to this disgustingly unjust war who both left behind families grieving for their fathers and husbands, but they are two families out of many that daily suffer the same fate. Both of the previously mentioned wars were a consequence of political initiation for the wrong reasons, with Margret Thatcher’s unpopular government seeing a chance to gain popularity again as her PR machine went into overdrive at that time and cemented Thatcher’s reputation as the ‘Iron Lady’ and the Falklands War saved her political skin. When I listen to Brothers in Arms it is deeply personal to me, and I despise war and the pointless tragic consequences it brings. It’s a shame that politicians forget that they serve for the good of people and not their own megalomaniac political control over people’s lives.

a MASTERPIECE by Home Free, from an arrangement by a Finnish group called Club for 5, of the original song written by Mark Knopler of Dire Straits, to honor the war dead in the Falklands War in 1982 between the UK & Argentina....which the UK won in just 6 weeks, despite being 7,000 miles from home.

I will always respect veterans and current military members. My uncle didn't lose his life Feb. 14, 1951 in Korea only to have his family disrespect the sacrifice his fellow soldiers make every day. Whether it's lost time with loved ones, damage to their hearts, minds and souls or the ultimate sacrifice of their life they *all* sacrifice something to keep the rest of us safe.

Powerful truth Ray. I believe our veterans should be treated with upmost respect and care. Whatever they need whether it be housing, medical, financial, psychological, should be available and should be the best care. Our freedom is so precious and we must always remember that and never take it for granted. This song was very beautiful and a powerful reminder to all of us.Thank you Kathryne for requesting this song.❤

I always liked the Dire Straits version, but I only got really interested in this song through Home Free. (Although I have to be honest I think Dire Straits guitar playing is phenomenal) Yes, this version of Home Free will send shivers through your entire body! This is so emotional. Beautifully sung by Tim and Chance, but the background and harmony of Adam, Rob and Austin is also so beautiful. It looks like a choir or actually a kind of church organ sounds. And the whole setting of the video is just amazing. Simple but with so many details that makes it so profound

Ray I'm a Luetenant of the 2nd Battallion/5th Marine. I too understand the lost of my brothers and sisters. They will truly be missed. People always say me" Thank you for your service" I always tell them" No, thank you for your existence, without you I wouldn't have a reason to fight.

Our family is very military. My grandpa served in WW1 (yes, I'm old), my dad served in the Korean war, my husband served a combined 29 years in USAF and Ks. Air National Guard, our son-in-law is currently serving in the Ks. Air National Guard. This song ALWAYS makes us teary eyed and gives us chills. You are exactly right. We have far more freedoms than people in other countries. It drives me crazy when some young people say they hate America. They have the right to say it, but that doesn't make it right.

Ms. Pope thank you for this beautiful request. We have had many family members in all the branches of the military. We are a very patriotic family. Our nephew is in the special forces and even though he can’t tell us where or what he is doing. We know it is very dangerous. My granddaughters husband is in the Marines and could be deployed anytime. We are so proud of them and all that are serving and have served. Ray you are completely right, we may not like some of the things that is going on but we still have the freedom to express our feelings about our government without fear. You did an amazing job on this reaction. Much love to you and your family ❤ God Bless America

Welcome. I also have a long history of family members in the service - Navy, Army, Air Force. Ancestors from the Revolutionary War, the Civil War and on through. I am very firmly in the "Veterans Before Illegals" group, however politically incorrect. My thoughts and prayers are going out to all those in the service of our country, past, present and future. Love to you and yours Miss Candie. KP

This one has always been a difficult one to get through without tears. The way they sing it, the harmonies, everything. I've also learned after watching many of their performances and such, that when Tim's hand starts pushing down toward the floor he's about to go off and rattle my windows or possibly damage the sound system.

Hey Uncle Ray, thanks so much for doing this one. Really loved your reaction and your appreciation to the vets. For a while now. Actually I've been wanting to request some music by veterans for veterans, that has literally saved my life a couple of times. It's pretty niche, and I don't know how much you'll relate to the slang, and sayings and stuff like that. But I mostly wanted to be able to promote this music and get it out there in case there's any other vets who are struggling. Sometimes it's not just the guys who died for you, it's the guys who are stuck back here trying to live. Just cuz you get back home. Doesn't mean the war is always over. I sent a couple donations your way just now, I'd really like if you'd just put it out there, even if you Don't really understand everything, if even one other struggling vet sees it, and their day is brightened then it was well worth it. I wanted to stay away from the super heavy stuff, and I know you're a old school New York hip hop guy , so I started off with some Fitzy mess. Think you'll like his music, he's got a bunch of stuff that that Vets especially Marines, will really relate to. I don't know what order you get them in, but "welcome to the Infantry" is more upbeat while "TRS" is more serious. Also, since you're getting more into country now," still ain't made it home" by Casey donahew. Is an amazing one describing the struggles of another person living with PTSD. And finally," a. Soldier's memoir" is about someone actively living with PTSD, and amazingly describes the issues that I personally, and thousands of others deal with on a day-to-day basis. Those last two are pretty heavy, and I got no problem if you want to space them out over the span of several weeks or months or what not. But definitely check out fitsy mess first. More up your alley more upbeat and I think something everyone will enjoy.

I prefer the original with Dire Straits. Mark Knopfler's voice is the right blend of husky and raw. His emotional delivery shows how vested he is in the song. He wrote this about the Falklands and the Uk vs. Argentina war.
