Home Free is the most respectful, honest group I have seen. They honor soldiers everywhere, both the living and the dead. We must all strive for peace and stop killing each other for useless reasons that do not really solve anything.

1st I thank you for your service. This is their masterpiece. To be fair it's an arrangement from a Finnish band called Club for 5. But Tim tinkered with the arrangement and it came out stupendous. Tim & Chance were perfect leads !!!

They are taking us to Church, just with their voices they come in like some grand church organ and wring out emotions of joy, pain, and thankfulness. And suddenly your teary-eyed and proud of your willingness to serve, and the promise your country holds. USN SHSN.

Is it different?, yes! Is it disrespectful to the original?, I think not! Home Free used no instruments other then their voices, no guitar (great in the original), yet they took Marks masterpiece of poetry and put the meaning in your face. You hear every word, and the message isn’t lost in instrumental back-ups.

Thank you and your family for serving the country I love. As for me, the previous generations never served. My heart was called by the Air Force, where I served active duty for 26 years, then wore the uniform for 7 more years while serving as a Junior Reserve Officer Corp cadets. My first child joined the U.S. Army serving one enlistment. My second followed me into the Air Force for one enlistment. Child #3 was Navy Sea Bee for one enlistment. Number 4 wanted to forge his own career but was injured and honorably left the Marines as he was concluding his second enlistment. No Coasties, but I tried to convince #5 to complete the Trileptal without success.

This is so amazing. I was not familiar with the Dire Straits version and when I did go to listen I thought I'd clicked on the wrong video because it is so different. I like the HF version better. The original of this arrangement by Club for Five is worth a listen. It's quite different from this one because it is mixed male and female voices with instrumentation, but very beautiful.

As the song starts I can see the lowlands of England or America spread out below me. Then the scenes from 60 years of War movies and the grief of women. The final realization. The photography is completely right as the ghosts sing souls to rest.

Home Free always pays appropriate respect in their covers--especially to the content! Their talent is amazing--and I LOVE their 5-part harmony❣️🎼🥰🎶❤️ Such a genius touch to show the silhouette of the fellas in front of the window. I know some see it as a "ghost"y reference but it strikes me as a reflection of the POW/MIA flag. We'll never know just how many of those met the same fate as the soldier of this song. 😥

This is the first reaction of yours that I've seen. I first have to say Thank You! for your service. This is one of the most moving songs/renditions, I think I've ever heard. This song should come with a warning. 😢 Even though it is gorgeous. It’s a shock if you are used to one type of song from them. The arrangement is from another acapella group called Club for Five. Home Free used it with permission and the video made it even more special. They have a whole album of patriotic songs and “Land of the Free” for example, is more uplifting. Thanks for sharing your reaction. They also have several party songs and some downright silly songs. So if you need a pick me up, there are choices. “Hillbilly Bone”, “SnapBack” and “Can’t Stop the Feeling” are literally parties. “Champagne Taste on a Beer Budget” is one of the silly ones. And the “Sea Shanty Medley” is fun. I think you can call yourself a Home Fry. You’re familiar enough with the guys and their voices now, that “Mayday” could go on your to-do list. But be advised, it’s about an unhappy relationship. Wherever you go next with them, I’ll be back. 🏠🆓

I always liked the Dire Straits version, but I only got really interested in this song through Home Free. (Although I have to be honest I think Dire Straits guitar playing is phenomenal) Yes, this version of Home Free will send shivers through your entire body! This is so emotional. Beautifully sung by Tim and Chance, but the background and harmony of Adam, Rob and Austin is also so beautiful. It looks like a choir or actually a kind of church organ sounds. And the whole setting of the video is just amazing. Simple but with so many details that makes it so profound

Just a suggestions...maybe don't stop it every 20 seconds to replay it and let a lot more of it play on. You can always go back later and rehear the parts you want, but you only get one first impression and, at least for me, that's best taken in as an overview of the whole thing the first time. Besides, your comments are mostly so softly given that I, for one, can't make them out. Just a suggestions...you'll do what you want to do.
