Take in mind, this was all hand animated, no computers to be found anywhere for the simple reason that computer animation didn't exist yet. Peter Gabriel had to sit for eight hours a day as every single frame of the clip had to be done. But Peter Gabriel absolutely LOVED doing stuff like that and he revisited it for the videos for "Big time" and "Steam"

True to form. This video took about a year to film, and then another year to become a hit. Big gamble. But during the early MTV days, this was the norm. Big budgets on videos. When this was one, MTV was well established and the record companies dumped so much money into it.

Just discovered this song properly a few days ago (only remembered the dancing chickens in the music video lol) and it is without a doubt a masterpiece of a song 🤘❤.

Fun fact: This music video was an early mainstream venture Aardman Animations, the company that would become famous years later for _Wallace and Gromit_ and _Chicken Run._ Glad you dug the song and video--it's a classic!

I saw Peter Gabriel in 1982 at the Houston Music Hall. He has a great sense of humor. When the lights went down for the band to come onstage, everyone was cheering and looking stage side, and they came marching through the crowd from the back. Nobody recognized his band members (they all had super long hair) until they lined up onstage and went to take an introductory bow. Peter held on to the hair of the two guys next to him as they bowed and their hair (wigs) stayed in his hands. Finally everyone recognized Tony Levin his great bass player and his guitarist David Rhodes. What a great show that was.

This blew my 10 year old mind when it came out. Was fortunate enough to see him live a few years later.

This song always reminded me of slowed down version of "Shotgun" from Jr. Walker and the All Stars. If you want to hear some serious sax playing you should check that one out.

Listen to the words. He's a Sledgehammer (whoo hoo 💖). If she lay down those tracks, he'll be a steamtrain. Listening is amazing, but watching this video was the highlight, especially during the time of innovation in videos.

In the comments someone mentioned Robert Palmer. If you react to him do his trifecta: Addicted to Love Simply Irresistible I Didn't Mean to Turn You On All three videos have a common element which you'll like.
