Great review Jay. Might be testing your memory here but how do you rate these against previous JPX Tour models... in particular the 919 Tours? My guess is better feel and looks but likely similar in terms of distance and forgiveness. Tempted to go for these 7i-PW, and a couple of 245s in the 5 and 6i bent 2° weak. Leaves a 5° gap between the 6 and 7i but feel like the higher launch of the 245s might mean this isn't too much of an issue. 9HCP, 7i SS ~88mph for reference if you think something like this could work 😊

I wish I had the ball striking to play something like this, I recently picked up a used MP-69 6 iron just to practice with in my backyard simulator. Wow is it much less forgiving than the 245, it makes a great training aid just by practicing to hit the center more consistently. To be honest if I could hit the S3 I much prefer the looks of the 241, which is why I love my 245 so much, looks almost identical to the 241 but much more forgiving.

Hope your knee feels better soon. Thanks for the timely video release. The sound was nice for those strikes. I use the 241, but looking of a combo set. These lofts look like a perfect fit, but is it worth that or should I just get the whole set? Also using the heat maps on your bronze site the 241's have a bigger sweet spot than the 245's. Is that correct? Thanks
@AskGolfNutКүн бұрын
In a manner of speaking yes, it's due very much like a lot of other players irons, to the fact that the CG of the head is more in line with the strike point allowing a better transfer of energy. Now the hotter clubs get around this by having hollow bodies with thinner faster faces, but their CG location is lower so sometimes suffers in the Forgiveness front. However if you look at the Advanced Data section with all the Launch dynamics differences this is where some clubs differ again. Due to the CG location, Launch Factor, Face, Spin Rates and Distance Potential numbers are different also so Forgiveness is only 1 part of a much larger fitting puzzle 👍

I'm curious...if you slap some lead tape out on the toe, will it stretch the green part of the heat map out? I have a set I think I want to play with, but I thought I would seek your input first.
@AskGolfNut21 сағат бұрын
It wouldn't stretch the green area but it would shift it so it would have the desired effect. Although face closure rate might also be affected by moving weight towards the toe.... Just a thought 👍

Very odd…it seems to slot between the 241 and 245 where the 243 is…if you look at the comparison chart on Mizuno’s site, it’s pretty close to the 243s in all the measurements (blade length and offset almost identical), but a noticeably thinner sole…I’m glad they made it because I loved the 221s, but needed more help, but for some reason, I can’t get on with the 223/243…it just feels too big…with this thinner sole, I’m looking forward to comparing it to the JPX Forged…

In reality I see this very very close to the 241s. I think Mizuno is going through a rebranding of its iron ranges starting with the Signature range with the S3. The full on blade will most likely come next..... What a gorgeous iron. Even if you are a mid to high handicap player with 70 mph swing speed, if you are content with carry from traditional weak lofts, and you like to work at golf, then you can spend many pleasant hours working to improve your contact, your strike, with the help of a can of Dr Scholl’s spray foot powder. You are the type who doesn’t want it to be easy but to be rewarding when you hit it correctly.
@AskGolfNut2 сағат бұрын
I agree anyone wanting to get the most consistency from themselves would do well using these irons and learning the art of consistency of strike. Many Game Improvement Irons with large areas of forgiveness does nothing to train the golfer to keep towards the middle of the face and rely on the club to do the work. 🤞

Handicap is and always has been a terrible way to select equipment to test or buy and I put this purely on the shoulders of the manufacturers being responsible for pedalling this common misconception. Handicap is a measure of score only and in no way an indicator of what golfer should use what equipment. Base your equipment choices on the needs of your personal swing. Do you need forgiveness more than say optimising Launch Factor, Face Speed or Face Spin Rates...there are always generalisations to make that higher handicap golfers need more forgiving irons but through the years of coaching and Custom Fitting I have lost count of the amount of golfers that not only buck the trend but are in total opposition to it 👍👍👍

@AskGolfNutКүн бұрын
I'm using a relatively low spinning ball so if anyone was to use say a Pro Vx the spin would move to around 6500 say... Again it's all to do with dynamic loft delivery also, I'm delivering 6 iron static lofts dynamically so anyone that delivers with more or less will see a deviation in spin from my averages, and that's before we talk about attack angles and face to path differences 😊👍

I am guessing you want sympathy from YT for your knee because there is a lack of sympathy at home! As I have had a grumbling knee for decades (school rugby will do that), you have my sympathy. I loved the JPX Tour irons. First tried the 918 Tour and could not believe how easy it was to hit, although the size of the 5i was definitely scarily small. As I got better the 5i in the Tour looked less scary but each generation was still so easy to hit, I just felt the looks gradually got less attractive From the video those irons sounded so soft. I am not changing my i210s any time soon but the S3s are very tempting

They are absolutely back to full on 1025E Grain Flow Forged with Copper Underlay, no tech apart from Sole relief so are back to its roots of being a proper honest forging 👍
