I remember a pro telling me about 30 yrs ago that when at the top of your backswing you should imagine you are carrying a tray of drinks with your right hand. This image puts you in the exact position you are using 😊

Julian, are you now using Callaway equipment rather than XX10 equipment which you recommended for seniors?

No, just for display purposes Peter, I still use XXIO equipment

That is what Shawn Clement has been demonstrating. He loves his "hammer" drill.

Shawn is a very experienced coach for sure. Not sure about some of the things he speaks about but if this is what he’s experienced then I’m in total agreement with him 👍

Very nice video. Are you saying that you’re “unloading” the right wrist extension into flexion? Like throwing a baseball?
@JulianMellor Жыл бұрын
Thank you, yes id say that. I wouldn't over think it just get the feeling using a hammer and try to replicate it with a club.

@@JulianMellor Thank you for responding! Some instructors say that the right angle should be held into and even through impact

Excellent explanation and demonstration Julian on how to get the right wrist more involved to gain more distance! Although I have been playing this wonderful game for over 67 years, I probably wasn't always using my wrists effectively in my swing. Since becoming a more experienced golfer, I have begun to use my wrists cocking and uncocking as you have suggested in this video. I have definitely noticed a difference when done properly. Good Job Julian! Keep Up The Good Work!

@@JulianMellor thank you. I need to get fit for clubs as it seems like a necessary thing to do. I started off great with your first videos but fear I am now over thinking them and hooking the ball like mad (right handed golfer). It’s easier to blame the clubs I bought on eBay than myself. Haha.

Julian, a top Canadian golf teacher on KZbin, also uses a mallet against a door frame to demonstrate the same point. However he insists on the importance of adopting a strong grip. I’d be interested to know your comment to that. Thanks, Roger
@JulianMellor Жыл бұрын
Hi Roger, I’ve tried it with a weak, strong and natural grip and find no extra value in using a strong grip. I’d always recommend trying it though. 👍

I love this video. I have been a carpenter for over forty years. I can hit a nail in with a hammer from way above my head and usually hit it well. I asked my golf mates why can’t I do it when playing golf? I come to the conclusion, if I play golf naturally, I get better results then trying to do deliberate shoulder and hip turns to hit the ball. Also I believe the body is a reaction to the swing, rather then my body action needs to be in a position to hit the ball. I’m not sure it make sense but that’s my theory. 🤔🤔
@JulianMellor Жыл бұрын
Yes, that makes sense to me. I see no reason why you can’t start striking the ball well if you trust what you are naturally capable of
@johnkubala2772 Жыл бұрын
I feel like I am adding loft at impact by scooping with my right hand and hitting high weak shots. Can you do a video about this?
