I really like the Steinberger tuners. I bought a set from StewMac in the early 2000s to put on my 1991 Firebird V. They’re a lot lighter than the banjo tuners and look great on Firebirds. The original ones they were selling fairly widely back then and like the ones on this V, had a circular locking knob on the top with two flats on it that you can use a spanner on to tighten up properly. (Pretty essential on the B and high E). You just need to make sure you keep the right size spanner in your guitar case, but that’s no more onerous than, say, carrying a string winder in your guitar case. The great thing about the Steinbergers is that they are very precise and they stay in tune beautifully. They are much lighter than the banjo tuners on a Firebird, so the guitar balances much better. I like these older ones with the round locking knob much better than the later ones with the t-bars, which I think look rather ugly. Gibson used them on a few different guitars in the 2010s and a lot of people ended up swapping them out for conventional machines, so you can usually find them a couple of used sets on eBay pretty cheap. I paid £60 for a set a couple of years ago for a Firebird build l was doing.

17:45 ish, the high e actually appears to be damaged from the back view. Notice the center of the tuning mechanism has a piece of metal that is either flush or perhaps even proud of the surface whereas the rest have it recessed in, left in shadow

Subjectively, I would choose it to be modified so the hole where the neck pickup goes would be replaced with the return of that pickup and its standard controls. Keep the 2 extra frets, though.

Okay, I can * almost * understand having a * single * volume pot on a * single * pickup guitar but why not a concentric pot to control both the volume and the tone on the "Holy V"? Same thing with "Holy Explorer" one concentric pot for each of the pickups. Are there physical limitations in the control cavity to get another pot or two into these guitars?

My Epiphone Firebird Studio has this stile tuners, one snaped and I thought it broke, the guitar was years without play, but turns out one local luthier fixed it, so it keep the same patina as the others

It does look similarish in the brief views you get of it, but it isn't one. The Holey Explorer is a 2009 model, so naturally could not have been in that video. What he actually plays is a Guild guitar: namely, the X100 Blade Runner.

I've totally changed my mind about this guitar. It's like a useable museum art piece. I like the idea of the blacked out cutouts. It sounds great and it's definitely an eye catcher.
