I could see the face in the mountains. Also we call the tall tower on the church ‘a steeple’. Some call it ‘a spire’ but they are one and the same. You all make me smile so much and Luce’s laugh is infectious ❤️

Watching Luca prepare the car and the family for travel reminds me of when I was a child. Packing the car was a major production because we were seven (mom, dad, and five children). Dad required that we rise early and line up all of the baggage in the driveway behind the car. Then he started his precision packing of everything into the trunk of the car. I think it always stressed him a little bit, but it was part of our happy anticipation of the trip.

It Italy there is (almost) always a tower only for the bells. These towers may be attached to the actual church but are not part of the church roof or Steeple. The Italians usually built the Campanile at the highest point of the hilltop town or most prominent part of the town. This was to broadcast the sound of the bells the farthest distance possible. The Campanile has a long and very interesting history - look up campanilismo for example - and, although not unique to Italy, does not really exist in the modern western world the same way it does there. Bell Tower is the closest thing in English.

We had a 5 hour drive in Einstein our VWT25 from Sussex back to Devon after having the new waterpump fitted (we waited a week to get the right part and the mechanic to fit it).but all was good as we were stranded on the Knepp Wilding Estate with lots of interesting walks and wildlife to watch…an excellent enforced holiday! We R camping in a VW California Ocean van in Seiser Alm this weekend. We were rained out from going up into thedolmites by gondola to hike because of rain today. Hoping for better tomorrow. Our experience of being able to do Van life in Italy has been amazing our first week! We have two weeks left to explore all of northern Italy. We have easily found free parking but getting into campsites without reservations is difficult. We have felt very safe camping in parking lots in the city… But we choose carefully. I would be a little more concerned about traveling to Sicily so I am excited to see you do it! We love so many things about Italy! I hope you get your dream camper van so you can begin your adventures! Driving in Italy is not for the faint of heart!
