I've just now noticed the parallels: glimmer and angella's first interaction is that of a mother scorning her daughter out of love and concern, while adora and shadow weaver's first interaction is that of a superior acting nice towards their underling to manipulate and control them. THIS IS WHY THIS SHOW IS AMAZING!!!

This show is a reimagining of the original She-ra who was the twin sister of He-man in the Masters of the Universe cartoon from years ago but making it separate from He-Man. Since there is no mention or appearance of him in this show. Of course, this doesn't mean that he doesn't exist in universe. He's just doing his own thing having his own adventures.

I believe Adora was taken from Planet Eternia when she was a baby and everyone's memories of Adora were erased. Even the portrait of their family was missing her like she didn't even excist.

Adora may or may not be the twin sister of a prince Adam, but the lore of this show makes Adora being from Eternia and He-Man existing both impossibilities.

@@criticcreature2121 technically its not impossible, but canonically this show is entirely separate from the He-Man universe. I believe there were some weird IP issues between Netflix and Mattel that prevented the reboot from making any direct reference to He-Man characters/locations, aside from a few things that are shared between the two IP’s, but the reboot treats these things as being purely She-Ra, not shared.

I first started watching this show after reading a lot of discussion about Catra in the comments of an Overly Sarcastic Productions video. Once I learned how different the show is compared to the original, I knew I had to check it out. It is now tied with Arcane as my favorite show of all time, and may even take the top spot if Arcane can't keep up the amazing quality

Oh man I’m very excited about this. If you’ve watched Steven Universe then you might recognize Catra’s VA, AJ Machalka. It’s hilarious that Kipo is like a pacifist and Glimmer is all about the fighting. Kills me.

I was born in the early 80s, and not only was Aliens my favorite movie when I was 6, but my family thought it was hilarious to sneak up on another family member while they were watching said movie, grab their face from behind, and scream "FACE GRABBERS!!!" It was a different time. A terrible, terrible time.

She-ra is for sure one of my fav. shows of all time. It's not only bcs of the music and the environment, but you can see that the writers really put their hearts into making those characters. I started watching it for specifically one character, you may have heard his name already, Hordak, but I won't say more bcs I don't want to spoil anything. I'm excited for another reactions, I really enjoyed this first one.

Happy to welcome another to The Catra Show. clarification on He-Man and She-Ra : they are basically completely separate from each other. I think there's some larger connected universe stuff but at least in this context you don't have to worry about He-Man existing.

Yay! This was a great show, can't wait for you to react to this. It's genuinely a good story, with some complex, layered characters.... with very "does what it says on the tin" 80s-cartoon names. Catra, because she's a cat. Bow, because he uses one, Glimmer, because she... glimmers. You get the idea :p I see you are already becoming familiar with the phrase "Catra! No!" 😂 if other reactors are anything to go by, it will be a common refrain. Catra is the embodiment of a cat pushing a class off a table while making direct eye contact.

Shadow Weaver is one of my favorite characters ever!! From the design to the haunting demeanor. Imo she owns every scene that she's in and I found her to be a highlight of Season 1 I also love Glimmer! 💜

about the character design, it's so cool to see that their combat outfits match their fighting style, Glimmer with the majestic cape to represent royalty and it's not an issue since she can teleport so it won't get in the way of mobility Bow with the full control on the arms and most interesting Adora in she-ra for with one of the few armor for woman that is not incredible ineffective and kind of a normal day sport outfit but goddess like❤

oh man, she ra is such a fun show! adora is a fun protagonist to cheer on and catra always brings the drama lol. i love the colors in the show and i use screencaps from the show as laptop backgrounds now and then. the story really builds as it goes on, the last few seasons are GREAT. some of the jokes were very goofy and the names they carried over from the old show are silly but i think it adds to the 'reboot of an 80s cartoon' kitsch of it all. hope you have fun with this show!

So glad to see you checking this out, I think you're really going to enjoy it. As for the question of the connections with He-man; well, you're correct that She-ra was originally He-man's twin sister who got her own spin-off show, but after the studio that made both shows closed down the rights to all of the various things they produced got sold off. The short version of the story is that He-man's show and She-ra's got sold separately and were bought by different companies - so now even though the two were originally meant to be connected no new She-ra production can use any characters or concepts from He-man and no new He-man production can use anything from She-ra. The one exception to this rule seems to be Hordak, the villain from She-ra because he was originally created to be a He-man character so he can exist in either.

Yep. And even in the original, Adora starts off as a Horde soldier raised with them from infancy, defects, and doesn't learn about her history or connection to Adam/He-Man (who is from elsewhere) until getting the sword. And then Adora and Adam split up and go back to their own homes to keep up the good fight separately. So this show isn't really far off from that.

@@MAlanThomasII Yeah, the pilot of the original series basically forged a connection between Adam and Adora, established their backstory, and set the stage for the two of them to be doing their own thing independent of each other. I like how this show managed to keep the essentials of her original backstory while still doing its own thing.

@@MikeyVenture Yeah, as someone who was a big fan of the original series, I'd be lying if I said I didn't kind of hope that they would introduce a character who is *totally not He-man* but who could easily stand in for him to get around the rights issue (I've honestly seen a few really good fan-made designs for what Adam/He-man could look like in this show's style); but ultimately I really like the direction that they chose to go instead and I'm glad that they chose to just let Adora/She-ra be her own character.

For the honor of Grayskull! I love this show so much. It's got such amazing animation, writing, and characters. It's interesting seeing the main character start off as part of the bad guy's forces and having to learn that they've been manipulated. LETS GOOOOO. I love She-Ra sm. You are going to LOVE these characters, and I'm pointing at sword at everyone who will scream spoilers to defend certain characters. People are REALLY bad when it comes to certain characters, and you're really going to have to remind them to shush and let your opinion form as you learn more and characters develop. This show is completely it's own self-contained thing. No crossovers, no missing lore from the 80s, no expected familiarity with the universe. And it's IMO by far the best thing that has ever been done with the extended Masters Of The Universe IP. And that's coming from someone who watched the original when it came out. This is one of my all-time favourite pieces of media.

I grew up in the 80s and am the exact right age for He-Man and She-Ra and I have to be completely honest, I much prefer this version of She-Ra over the original. The characters were all pretty much the exact same in the 80s and the animation really was bad, especially for it's time. The new show does a much better job at developing and differentiating the characters and there is real character growth throughout the show's seasons.
