Great video, very intersting since most folks don't realise how important Seiko was during the history of this era. Also, when watching the dial of this one, it's safe to say that Seiko always knew how to make georgeous dials.

I'm pleased you're showing this Grammar of Design Seiko and sharing the quartz history. Commonplace as it is today for many, many years it was a difficult scientific and practical challenge to place quartz on the wrist, and have the batteries last. Citizen, rather than Seiko, had the most accurate watch in the world, the Crystron 4 Mega which back in 1975 did +/-3 seconds per year (not per month). Only one watch has bettered it since. The Crystron 4 Mega was $15.000 back then, almost exactly half the price of a new Ferrari 308 GTB, the 296 of the time period.

I think its worth noting that the King and Grand lines transitioned(the grand line continued with some mechanical watches) to the quartz only movement watches bc this was thought to be the future, and fetched more money at the time. As Quartz got cheaper, seiko retired the K and G lines bc they indicated high end and quartz eventually lost its luster. I believe the indexing second hand referred to, is the a "jeweled seconds jumper." The Jewel is shaped like a pallet for jewel, slight more wedged shaped and stops the seconds wheel from bouncing. I've restored a bunch of 48xx and they are so well build luxuriously finished.
@benjaminvis Жыл бұрын
I have to agree, this has been designed and executed on a fantastic level. I truly wish all quartzes ran like that. If they could do it then, what is the problem of doing it now? Thus, I also don't see what's to gain by getting the movement serviced. Bracelet: I'm curious what the original would look like, but it does work quite well on this already. The condition would need to match.

Fascinating how times change. Back then when the technology was new and exciting nobody wanted mechanical watches any more, these actually started quartz crisis. Today quartz movements have become incredibly mundane and big money is spent for luxury mechanical watches. We've come full circle.
