With the arc furnaces, I automated the button just by using a slot reader to check if there's something in the input and a logic writer to activate the furnace. Then you can just throw a bunch of stacks into a chute and the arc furnace will work through them by itself. You can also then shove it into a room and never have to touch any controls, just throw ore at it.

The biggest issue with your filtering setup is that your degassing ores in your furnace. Ore gasses are actually quite cool (0c in some cases). By throwing it in your furnace, your mixing that with your hot CO2. It makes it harder to smelt as the furnace temperature declines faster, but it's also harder to filter since have to seperate it from the hot CO2 as well as cool it from a much hotter temperature. If you run everything through an Arc Furnace first and capture the gas from that, you will be able to filter and cool far faster. For the hot CO2, just dump it when you're done with it. If you need more cool CO2, better to bring in atmopheric CO2.
@edwardcullen1739

@@WolfPlaysGames2 I think keeping a standard furnace for off-gassing is a better plan. Ingots need remelting, which uses a lot of energy from the furnace. It depends what you're making and exactly how you have things setup, but generally, off-gassed ores are the best thing to use for making alloys, rather than ingots.

put a one way valve, or a pump, to reroute the pollutant from the cold side back to the hot side, will serve 2 purposes in both helping cool the hot side pre cooling it, and will also put it back into the loop to be refiltered out.

you could add a separate filtering system that is also controlled by your IC to your climate control system. it would simply be on as long as the temperature is at or below 20 filter out oxygen, carbon dioxide, and nitrogen. after the filtering you just feed the filtered gasses into the correct pipes and the unfiltered back into the main filtering tank. with the IC use a digital valve for both the pipe to the filtering and to bypass the filtering. the main problem I see with all of this is you would have to have a valve in every section of the base that you want to be able to isolate because of the pipe leading everywhere in the base. I'm unsure how you fix that. and due to you having to implement those features for the base to even stop an atmosphere leak you could probably just implement the filtering system on it's own

the amount of oxygen you need is above 16 kPa partial pressure according to the game's beta helper hiints feature, but you'll have a hud warning for it. 20 kPa is the threshold for no warnings. ice crushers changed the default to 15C, ,they heat their contents up and that's why they're slow volume pumps move a *volume* of gas, 1 pipe segment is 10 litres, one volume pump moves 10 litres per tick, which means that one pipe segment should always be empty, though whether or not it actually is depends on weird reference order but at minimum it'll be some partial pressure of the input pipe.
@WolfPlaysGames2

I'd also recommend changing the Setting to a different lower target temperature. Beside being faster, it will keep the gas cold so it helps with cooling your gas storage.

The minimum safe ratio for oxygen I've found is about 31% at 52kPa so ~20% at 100kPa does sound about right, but it may be worth increasing that anyway. I did make an oxygen filter with an IC control to make it pull excess oxygen from the room into storage.

Terrible but realistic mod idea inspired by all your safety issues: Maintenance and reliability where relevant parts have a random failure chance based on temperature and loading and other parts have to have maintenance performed on them or they lose efficiency on the way to eventual failure (some parts just fail if they don’t get regular maintenance). The point would be to make maintainability and availability as design consideration. It just seems drastically unfun to run around doing maintenance to keep things running.

So you did dig too deep. I figured you would have hit the room limit eventually with the furnace room, I'm disappointed that it didnt immediately create Venusian atmosphere but kind of stoked that you could potentially have a wind farm inside a vacuum. Speaking of partial pressures, I'm pretty sure 20kpa oxygen is the minimum to receive no warnings... when room is pressurized, PV = nRT suggests the minimum mols at 20C is roughly 65.7 mols. @1:43:50, It looked like you had enough to be breathable but maybe when the airlock cycles so that the airlock is part of your room, then the minimum O2 you had got dispersed into your airlock so that you got under the threshold. I could have sworn in an earlier stream you had about that much to a little less that you got warnings. Though from my memory, when you had gone in there you also had lung damage since your little character icon was yellow, it was possible that the lung damage meant you needed a higher concentration of O2 to be fine. You seem to always have lung damage somehow... how are you hurting your lungs? @1:53:12, as far as damaged lungs go, when they are hurt you just dont really know except that your person health meter is still next to your food/hydration meters even at full health. From what I understand, anytime you are in a too hot/cold, toxin environment, or vacuum, your lungs get damaged and accumulate slowly. final edit: In your A little Experiment, @43:52 when you wanted to eat and drink in there, there were 70 mols of O2, past what was needed... your little person damaged icon was there at the beginning of the video. So this meant your lungs had to have been damaged. So could it be the constant hydration/hunger damage you take could potentially be damaging your lungs? You seemed to have been much better about not getting toasted by a full waste tank so is it possible that declining health due to hunger or hydration is damaging your lungs a bit over time? That whole debacle seemed really odd though. You had a low oxygen warning at first, after the flush they were critical and even in the greenhouse with a higher o2 concentration it was still critical.

Estimating room size is one of the hardest things in block building games. Minecraft, Space Engineers, Stationeers, etc. You'd think we'd learn, but apparently no. I've spent hours iterating on room designs in isolation for things like airlocks, crew quarters, etc, and develop a sense for the possibilities from small to large, but it has only resulted in a marginally better intuition.

I'd say I'm about the same, though I think (for obvious reasons) Space Engineers is the one where I mess up the scale the least. I went back and checked the footage from your previous video, and you had 92.1 kPa total pressure, which was 24.7% (22.74 kPa) oxygen, at 20.8C. So yeah, I'm really not sure why that wasn't breathable. Assuming nothing's changed and the game is still happy with you breathing 50.4% CO2, that room is more breathable than Denver (~83.4 kPa pressure of which there's ~17.5 kPa oxygen), and I can personally confirm breathing in Denver did not kill me. Honestly, I'm kind of leaning towards some temporary glitch which caused it to treat it as unbreathable at that moment even when it should be fine.

my "hot house" setup in the mean time are some large radiators (I know, stellite glass necessary) inside a glass house (so storms dont kill it). Together with a small chip so they turn to the sun. The heated water goes into a direct heat exchanger attached to my "hot gas storage". It took a few (in game) days to heat up enough so you can smelt steel/etc, but its quiet fast to get it hot enough. Worked quiet well. (Of course you need a pressure regulation in the house, otherwise it explodes after a while.

Why not filter your hot, mixed gas in parallel for each gas type? E.g., 3-4 polutants filters, etc...
@Flipsie
@Flipsie Ай бұрын
If I did that I'd still have a mixed gas that's hot but has oxygen, CO2 and nitrogen in it but those are gasses that I want to have cool. Doing it in sequence gives me those neatly separated so I can cool them and store them. Sequential is a bit slower overall but is MUCH simpler to set up to get the desired output
@brettlemoine1002
@brettlemoine1002 Ай бұрын
@@Flipsie I mean just parallel your filtering off at each stage. You have only one pollutants filter machine. Add a few more. Then add additional filter machines for each other gas down the sequence. So it'd still be sequential, but at each step of the sequence you could have more than one filter machine siphoning off that particular gas off more quickly from whatever mix is remaining.
