Worst part for me is the fact that some aspects (excluding the grape shit) have decent potential for story telling. If you have played any Fire Emblem title, most, if not all the titles in the series involve either the main character or a side character being a prince/princess or some noble who lost their birthright due to a coup or a rival or some freak accident. Usually they'll set out to reclaim what is theirs either on their own or with the assistance of the main character. Such examples are Nyna from the Archanea titles whose family was executed, throne stolen, and her being rescued by an enemy knight who brought her to her actual knights, causing a forbidden love between the two. Another is Elincia from the Tellius titles who also lost her kingdom to an enemy kingdom and has to enlist the help of a mercenary band to free her Kingdom. I could give more example, another being a pair of twins with plot relevant jewelry (like the necklace mentioned in the video) but this comment is already long. If they removed the more questionable stuff from the story and focus more on the empress regaining her confidence and pride with the help of her new ally then this would be significantly better. You wouldn't have to remove the "romance" entirely. Make it so this Tamon guy respected this empress so much, he stayed his hand when it came to the empire. Hell, maybe he did have a crush on her but he was actually normal about it and kept things about business. He seizes the chance to save her and nurses her back to health (not with kisses but like a normal person jfc). Her mental health still needs to be nursed but from here, a partnership can begin between the two. And if there is room for it in the story? A romance that actually feels natural. There. Done. Fixed the story in the span of 10 minutes lol

Dude I tried out the webtoon maybe a year ago because I thought the art looked pretty decent. But there’s SO MUCH to hate. Like for one-and this is a sin of many Webtoons-the villain is downright pathetic. They put so much work into making them evil and unlikeable but also not SO much of a threat that they seem implausible to overcome, but the guy just ends up being insufferable, unreasonable, and stupid. They become so cartoonishly bad and incompetent that they don’t even feel like a big bad evil for the story anymore. What I’ve started to clock really early into comics is that if your BBEG starts cackling and getting tiny pupils and drawn with the ugliest “crazy” faces, they’re no longer a threat to take seriously unless that’s a late reveal or something. But when they’re practically introduced like that, they’re just gonna be a pathetic, incapable child of a villain. It’s not fun or interesting to read. Nobody cares about a villain that makes it abundantly obvious how dumb and over-emotional they are. People don’t like old Disney villains just for being “so evil” dude… It’s because they have kickass songs and they’re fucking COOL about it! Think about it: How many villains are iconic and ALSO happen to be cool, calm, confident, collected, and GOOD at what they do? Scar, Maleficent, Ursula, Jafar, The Evil Queen iirc, and the list probably goes on if you care to keep going. People LIKE and are entertained by COMPETENT and domineering threats. When you declaw a villain at the very start of your story, you are basically telling the audience to stop giving a shit right away. And then the romanticized SA is not necessarily new for WebToon, but r*pe being involved definitely makes it more significantly disgusting than usual. And don’t even get me STARTED on the fact that it just had to be the rare dark skinned male lead… istg if the ML has darker or even just tanned skin, there’s like a 70% chance increase that the story involves them being not just sexually aggressive, but also without consent on multiple occasions. Doesn’t help that even the story doesn’t see anything wrong with what happens-like it’s portrayed as if he’s doing some favor for her out of passion, but no. No. It’s just SA and flimsy excuses. I got through maybe 6 episodes TOPS and every step of the way I was rooting for her to succeed in offing herself because that seemed like a form of victory for her. The ML legit made himself a more convincing antagonist and his goal was to keep her alive so in rooting for the protagonist, I was HOPING SHE WOULD DIE. Imagine writing a story so poorly that the good ending seems to be the titular Empress ending her life to escape a bad situation on all sides. What a fuckin world. As a writer, this is just about everything I hope not to be.

If you would like a good webtoon to read, I personally suggest Teenage Mercenary! Yeah it can be your run of the mill action webtoon at times, but the story is pretty solid, not to mention the characters are pretty consistent!!
