One has a fully developed brain and is well into adulthood (likely finished or finishing college, has had jobs) and the other is still a teenager who's just entered the world (a year into everything you can do as an adult, starting college, getting a full time job). It's ALWAYS weird when a grown man seeks a barely legal gal (teen in this case) and it's usually telling. The author choosing these ages tells us the same, likely fetishizing thing, along with a nice dose of sexism (the woman is worse at tennis, she's the younger one, the dude is a pervert and quite literally says he lost on purpose to go out with her and it isn't framed as manipulative and trust-shattering (and unforgivable! Their relationship started on a HUGE lie)). It's also very strange that the father is fine showing inappropriate stuff to a kid, letting said kid say inappropriate stuff to his daughter, and had cunningly pursued a barely legal woman. I dunno about you but this gives me the feeling that if he could, he would have gone younger or sunk his claws into a minor to groom them until they're legal. I think you're rightfully weirded out because you already know how it plays out IRL and what this says about the older person. We're usually not disturbed if this is something we aren't suspicious of IRL. Say if the age gap was slightly smaller, 20-24, it'd be a little less weird. You could assume they met in a similar place in life, especially with how immature the guy seems to be! I pointed out the age gap because, as you said, it is a red flag on the author's part. This stuff adds up!

The age of majority was actually pushed down in most developed countries because of war and needing to draft more people. No 16 should be involved with an adult (& it's often a crime anyways because of specific laws!) and 18 is very iffy because you're kind of a creep to get with a barely legal person when you're over 21. Pretty sure I already talked about that in another comment so read it again. 19 yos and 25 yos are never in the area of life, be it in maturity (mental and physical), experience, or whatever. In this Webtoon specifically it's a red flag, because yes a lot of creeps/pedos do try to get victims as legally young as possible before usually going for an illegal age, because the dude is inappropriate with a CHILD, letting his own child be sexualized, and lied and manipulated a 19 yo to get with her. So yes, he does sound like a predator because he mimics the behavior of real predators. It gets even worse. Anya spends some time in the hospital for her ankle which was caused by Axel(Axel has a brutual tennis style that causes the opponent to hurt themselves). While there, she gets visited by her cousin Sumire?(forgot her name) who recognizes Axel. In a long and drawn out backstory reveal, Axel is the son of both Ayane’s and Nathan’s exes who cheated with each other. His mother named him Nathaniel which is Nathan’s full name. A young Sumire believed Nathan was cheating on Ayane and thought Axel was his illegitimate child so she decided to get back at him (mind you she’s like…10). She plants evidence to Axel’s father who believes it and abuses his wife and child. He beats them so badly Axel suffers brain damage and his mother also suffers some sort of traumatizing wound that leaves her unable to function properly anymore before killing himself. Nathan, having figured out this had happened, tried to get there in time but it was too late. He paid for Axel’s hospitalization fees and even tired to convince Ayane to let him adopt Axel due to his guilt but she said no(cold-hearted really your family caused this). That’s why Nathan is so supportive of Axel to the point of betting his entire company, he’s wrought with guilt. Anyway, Sumire falls for Axel who decides to use her to hurt Anya all in a twisted manner of revenge. It works, Anya is heartbroken and cries. Meanwhile, Anya’s talent manager Kim Joon?(also forgot his name) has a weird semi-romantic interest in her(mind you he’s an adult like 20 something an she’s 16) But he’s in a relationship with the current Queen of Tennis so that’s an issue. Anyway, Axel’s previously mentioned brain damage starts causing him to have a split personality or something and he’s literally about to die if he doesn’t do this surgery overseas but he wants to continue his promise of honing Anya’s skills. That never happens becasue Anya learns of his illness and urges him to seek treatment and promises that she’ll grown enough to defeat the current queen which is where the webtoon ends, with her starting the match against the queen. Don’t know if she won or not (probably not since she never actually trained for anything, just cried and smiled over Axel’s dumb ass). In all honesty, the story should have just been about Axel’s tragic past and connections to her family without the tennis. you have to keep in mind that there's an editor behind it and some of webtoon editors are well-known for adding weird stuff (forcing the author to put in noncon, weird fetish stuff, etc...). People other than the creator saw this and thought "yes absolutely fine".

This is the reason why I have trust issues with ongoing webcomics/manga/stories. They (publishing company, not the artist) marketed it as a tennis romance, and they only switched to marketing it as drama after they had misled so many people that just wanted an enemies to lovers tennis romance. The story itself isn't bad if you know beforehand that it is a telenovela/soap opera-- but for the majority of the first readers, it was an utter blindside.
