In their supermarkets there I saw that their cheddar cheese was bright orange also, and looking on the pack’s listed ingredients I could see they have added dye. I saw on Bitchen’ Kitchen this was explained as grass fed cows produce more yellow milk (and cheese) so dye was added to grain fed, then they just went overboard and the American’s are just conditioned to expect bright orange cheese

It does look like a Red Belly, which interestingly means it is not poisonous, however it is also highly venomous and should be avoided.

@RogerRamjet Snakes are just as scared of us, in the same way that many folk react to them. Ĺiving in a rural town, the two "local" snakes are the red belly black & the brown snake, the latter being the most common. In the thirty years that I have lived in the area, I have only come across three brown snakes in my yard. On two occasions, I came out of the back door & I spotted them first, so I stood still. As soon as they saw me, they were gone in a flash. The third time, my small female cat had a large brown by the back of it's head & it was thrashing wildly. I yelled "Molly" & she dropped it & instead of it attacking her, it shot off like a rocket. In answer to Ryan's question, I am sure most people would be aware of which venomous snakes & spiders etc., are found in their region. If I was going on a camping trip, or out bushwalking in a different area, I would first check what dangers to be aware of.

A red belly is highly unlikely to bite. Sure don't go up and start bothering it but if you do find yourself up close it will tend to just ignore you or move away. I have accidentally stepped over one before and it wasn't bothered.

You know that you're an Aussie when you are half-cut one night and head to the pantry for snackage but the cupboard is bare, except for a lone box of Jatz biscuits, then you remember that you have chilled butter in the fridge and vegemite in the pantry, so all your snackage problems are solved!! Jatz biscuit, thick spread of cold butter, light smear of vegemite, rinse and repeat. I can smash about half a box of Jatz at a sitting like that, and be totally stoked that I had amazing snackage :D :D :D

I have learnt so much from those road signs, like gold was discovered in Gympie in 1867, the longest river in Qld is finders, Rockhampton is famous for cattle farming (not that this was a surprise), tallest mountain in Qld is mount bartle Frere. Done my fair share of driving the Bruce highway from up near cairns all the way down to Brisbane. Definitely helps keep you awake

BTW, the snake in the video is a red-bellied black snake (you can just see the red belly peeking out). They're quite common in New South Wales, but they're not the most venomous snake, and they're also incredibly shy and will try to get away if they see you.

For an awesome Aussie breakfast: toast, butter, a thin smear of Vegemite (THIN), and an egg sunny side up on top. The Vegemite will season the whole thing. For an upgrade, add smashed avocado beneath the egg. Adjust the amount of Vegemite accordingly. Vegemite is full of savoury umami and saltiness. It is a seasoning. When you understand that Vegemite is a seasoning, then you understand Vegemite. 😊

I've been recycling drinks cans and some bottles since they brought the "Cash for Containers" scheme in here in Qld. 80-90% my own drinks etc that i have consumed but some come from a neighbour. Can't crush them so the machines can read the barcodes. In 5 years i have got about $1500.00 back at 10 cents a container. A lot of charity and community groups do container collection to raise funds.

yup, it's good money in the right place. I live in a rich, lazy area, with 120 units next door to me & the bins between the 2 properties. Bins are checked at least 10 times a day by various people trying to cash in on it. I don't bother, but was looking for some ice cream containers for a project I was doing once & found 15 cans in the bin while doing so, so I figured I may as well collect them & recycle, since I wanted to look under them anyway, so $1.50 for 30 seconds work, I can see why so many check those bins! Bit of a gold mine really. Would easily be enough money for a living wage for 1-2 people coming out of those bins next door to me. No idea how much each individual doing it actually gets, but clearly it's worth it to them, or they would be all doing it

The trivia questions are on those signs. After two or three questions they tell us to keep playing to stay alert but there are never anymore questions. We always drive with loud music and 4 special needs Yorkies in the back seat strapped into their safety seats. They are good to take anywhere but they keep us busy. There is no sleeping in our truck. Yes, the Kookaburras are the hunting gang. It is fun to watch then swallowing snakes. We don’t have many snakes that will not kill us. We do have a lot of snake handlers, they pick up all snakes and through them around. My husband takes ours around the corner to be recycled monthly. I only drink water and he makes good money. My daughter in law works at a school and she used to bring bags home for her youngest son when he was in High School. He was making $250.00 a day on average. We get 10 cents for little juice boxes, plastic and glass bottles and cans. Probably more than those that I don’t use. It is a part of reusing and how Australia stays so clean. No we cannot squash cans anymore. That woman deserved longer in prison. Babies and animals die very quickly in a car here with the sun and no windows open. I believe she went to sleep after using and forgot them. We don’t take these things well here. I worked in child mistreatment. I did feel sorry for one Dad a few years ago. He dropped his baby at Daycare because his wife worked in a different direction. One day he was late for work, stressed about something happening that day and he forgot to drop off his son who was about 8 months old. He went back to pick up his baby after work and they told him he was never signed in. He thought they had lost his son and the Staff found him in the back of his car. He didn’t go to prison but he is still broken. I don’t think he will ever recover. That baby was loved.

Ryan, Milo is different than regular chocolate milk. Milo is a malt chocolate and has a distinctive taste (and crunch because most Aussies put lots of Milo in the milk and not all of the Milo dissolves and it floats on the top). And Iced Coffee flavoured milk is also very common.

The suite had its own gym, laundry, bar (not mini bar), dining room (with a cabinet of Faberge eggs), complimentary stationery with our names on it, chocolates with our names on them, Veuve...I wasn't upsetting anyone, even the doorman. 😁

We did the usual thing with leaving a tip on each of the beds each morning, and other tips for meals etc. I was surprised when he grabbed my bag because I had my back to him and had no idea who was trying to take the bag, then I didn’t think rolling my bag, unasked, a few metres deserved a tip.

In the US, I was waiting for the elevator to go down to reception to check out, luggage with me. A Porter went to take my bag and I told him NO several times (I was going to Canada and had no USA money on me) but he lifted it and put it over the threshold of the elevator. As we were about to get out of the elevator he said very rudely “You have to tip me!” I was 21 but looked about 16 and I think he thought he could intimidate me into paying him. I told him in a VERY vocal and Aussie way where he could go. I have no issue tipping and am usually very generous with tips but I was so pissed off at him!

We learn in the country and rural schools. There are books describing the different dangerous creatures in Australia and the teachers read them to primary school children as part of their curriculum. At least where I live.

I was going to say, I don’t think I’ve know a school myself that hasn’t done a reptile incursion (when they can) that goes over dangerous critters. It’s usually in basic first aid as well. Like, my kids know how to put on a snake bandage and wrap a spider bite but I didn’t have to teach them.

Region specific doesn't matter that much in terms of treatment though anyway, if the person gets generalised symptoms, pressure immobilisation, give any medication they have for it (ie epipen if the reaction's cause of an allergy), call 000 & resuscitate if needed. If they get only localised symptoms, chuck an ice pack on it & go to a doctor or hospital if needed. If there's bottles of vinegar on the beach you're at where the sting occurred, pour that onto it before the bandage (is box jellyfish area), but otherwise treatment for everything's the same

The last first aid class I did specified the types of treatments for different accidents, etc. I live inland so we only did a brief cover of sea life and focused more of our practiced treatments on the dangers we were more likely to come across in this area. Rural specific covering farm accidents, snake bites, bee stings, anaphylaxis, work place accidents, etc.

I have a background teaching first aid & volunteer snake catching & my experience is that there's a lot of people out there in cities that don't know what I just said above, or anything else covered in first aid courses & tbh, depending on how it's taught in courses, many walk away still oblivious as to how to treat a lot of bites & stings, cause they've had SO much new info to learn in such a short time, that they just don't take it in. If they've personally had experience with a particular animal, they will tend to remember the treatment for that, but any animal they've not seen before, they tend not to remember the treatment for once the course is over. People tend to actually process a LOT more info on their second course than their first, due to that info overload, especially if they're uni students or otherwise theoretically academically minded, rather than practical. Any apprentices or outdoor workers are a dream to teach first aid to, cause they take it all in really easily & have a brain with the ability to grasp practical, hands on learning & that's generally going to include anyone living in rural areas (although I did once have a forestry commission worker who absolutely insisted that he would still grab an axe & cut off a finger if bitten by a snake, cause it was better than the alternatives & no matter what I said, I simply could not convince him there was no need, so there's always exceptions, even in people working outdoors in practical jobs. That guy was a lost cause on EVERYTHING first aid related, he was very out of place for that group of people in that particular course, was a weird one)

We had what we thought was a juvenile brown snake inside our front entrance on Friday. Brown snakes are highly venomous. We called WIRES (wildlife rescue service volunteers) and a lovely volunteer turned up within half an hour. It turned out to be a golden-crowned snake which are apparently common in our suburban area of Sydney and only mildly venomous. He took it to a herpetologist to get checked out and we all agreed it was a beautiful snake. Still scary to find at your front door in the a.m. though.

Tipping culture isn't a thing in Aus like the US because we have a decent minimum wage, subpar server minimum wage + tips is illigal here. However traditionally we often tip at a sit down resturant, put change on a bar, or give the pizza guy 5 bucks. Being "asked" prompted to tip is very much a digital age ordering thing here. I have never seen a tip being automatically selected beforehand and I would likely cancel and walk out because this is going further than already forcing me to make unnessessary selections. For me, this is close to deceptive. Sadly, we're only going to see more of this.

Should definitely react to a video on Australian Snakes cause there are so many different types and many of them are venomous, but not all of them are known to frequently bite humans. How do you know a snake is poisonous or not?. Tip: leave them alone and don’t pick them up and consider all to be poisonous. Don’t harass the wildlife. If you see a snake on your property call the snake catcher to move it - they are trained to move venomous and non venomous snakes. We don’t ask them if they are poisonous or not. We don’t have classes about what snakes are poisonous or not. We are taught to respect and leave snakes alone.

We all get taught and it's fairly common knowledge which snakes are venomous. The one here (4:58) for example, you can tell just by it's colour. All the Black snakes are venomous. Also, the "Triva Games" are on the roadside signs. As you drive down the Highway you get a new question every few kilometers. In Qeensland, to combat "Highway Fatigue" there are also free "Coffee Stops" every so often where you can stop and chill out with a complementary beverage in order to de-compress.

In Australia I think most people are pretty well educated about what snakes are around us. That was a red belly black snake and yes it is a very venomous snake. I did hear someone say one time that snakes with the cat eyes pupils are venomous and snakes with round pupils are not, but I don’t think that’s true in all cases so no one take me on my word 😂

Most city people have no idea on snakes! If a snake is in your roof, or otherwise above your head in a hard to climb area, it's unlikely to be venomous, more likely a python, but other than that, all should be assumed venomous unless you have the experience to identify it as a python

Red Belly Black snakes (the video) conveniently have a red belly to make it easy to identify them :) They're rated 6th on the most venomous snakes in the world list, but there's never actually been a death from one. Anyway, it's movement pattern is the give away as to the snake type, it's kinda clumsy when it tries to climb, which means it's not a python that can use it's body to wrap around things to climb, therefore it's envenomating it's prey to eat, so just assume it can envenomate you too - IF you annoy it, if you just leave it alone, it will do the same back. & btw, you don't need to "lock" your doors, just close them. I know our animals are smart, but they're not THAT smart yet! (not the snakes anyway, maybe the birds & roos might be)

I agree with you though, that there's certainly no poisonous snakes in Tasmania, or Australia. Lots of venomous ones, but no poisonous ones

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 how do you know if it’s poisonous? It’s either a regular snake or a constrictor. Constrictors are generally longer and heftier and look like they’ll squeeze you quite happily until you die. Regular snakes you treat them all as venomous. If they’re smaller, thinner and look like a skink, then they’re a legless lizard. Look but don’t touch is a good rule of thumb here in Aus.

We go with most snakes are venomous leave em alone or call the snake catcher. Or if they are multi coloured and very big and slow chances are its a python. Not likely to bite unless its really cranky but it will hurt. Usually placid-ish and are the ones you see in videos where grannys dragging it out of the shop or the kitchen. If in doubt leave it alone. That one is NOT a python. So its a leave it alone call the snake catcher snake. Definitely cheese on the vegemite toast. We dont have sticks of butter. It comes in either 250gr or 500gr rectangular blocks . Not stick shaped. Echidnas and porcupines 2 different animals. Not related. Both just spiky. We dont have prcupines. Echidna is related to the platypus. Both monotremes.. Google it 😀

In Australia, the only people I think about tipping are Uber drivers. They get paid three parts of F-all for the work they do, so I add a tip if they're cool. Sometimes I give a cash tip if I'm flush.

What has the Queensland community up in arms is the fact that when she gets out, she will still be young enough to have more children, and people are terrified it will happen again.
