The fable goes like this. A “tender-hearted” woman finds a wounded snake on the road. She takes it in and nurses it back to health. The snake, revived, bites her. The woman, dying, asks why did you bite me “‘Oh, shut up, silly woman,’ said the reptile with a grin. ‘You knew damn well I was a snake before you took me in.’”

Regards the shopping trolley, the dongle or key on the end of the chain is supposed to not be able to be plugged into its own lock. If this is possible then on can reclaim the coin, usually a dollar, that one inserted to release the trolley without the need to return the trolley to the parking rack, usually the primary purpose of this kind of set-up. Someone messed up badly and made the chain a link or two too long.

Decimal currency was introduced into Australia on the 14th February 1966. They no longer make round 50cent coins, also use less precious metals in them; currently the silver in the coin is much greater in value, than it's minted value. Pre-decimal coins actually had greater amounts of precious metals in them.

At my shopping centre in Campbelltown NSW, we have Aldi, with Coles next door and Woolies upstairs. People shopping at Aldi would always take Coles trolleys into Aldi so they wouldn’t have to use a coin for the Aldi trolleys. Cole’s got wise and replaced all their trolleys with coin ones. For the next few weeks most people started taking the Woolies trolleys. Woolies got wise and replaced all their trolleys with coin ones too. I do click and collect shopping (direct to boot) so I don’t need a trolley.

Yeah I like sarsaparilla. Pronounced: SARSS-PAH-RELLA. It's too sugaryfor me to drink all the time though. It's very tasty, to me. Some people think it tastes like a cleaning fluid. Bundaberg is ginger beer, Bundaberg may also make sars; I think they may make kambucha too, but I'm not sure. Australia changed to decimal currency on Feb 14, 1966, so that first version of the 50 cent piece wasn't in circulation for very long so it would be quite valuable. Hail is reasonably common. That snake looks like a python. They're quite docile & not venomous, but they can give you a helluva squeeze. x Aunty Linda.

I love Sarsaparilla! It’s a brewed soft drink like ginger beer but has a totally different flavour, more of an aniseed flavour. Bundaberg is a city in Queensland that has an abundance of sugar cane, macadamia nuts and other produce. They’re most famous for Bundaberg Rum and consequently Bundy and Coke. They’re also famous for their delicious Nougat (pronounced “noo-gah” because it’s a French word), in both hard and soft forms. Bundaberg also brews soft drinks in many flavours, the best of which is their Sarsaparilla! Schweppes is a great recipe to have when you don’t want to consume too much of the sarsaparilla plant. (Sars-parilla). Walmart imports products from Bundaberg so look there if you want to try something.

Ryan, yes the coin payment box on the trolley is to encourage the shopper to return the trolley, and most of the time it works, but many people still leave them in the carpark, or take them home if they dont live too far away. If you get two trolleys, and bring them home, you just need to lift the handle of one trolley on top of the handle of the other trolley (back to back) and slot each chain into the other trolley box and you get both your coins back. I often see them left like that near my place. Coles and Woolies aslo employ people to go pick them up, some drive round streets to pick abandoned trolleys up left in streets.

I bloody just went through my doberman eating rat poison. Was having my morning coffee and he was chewing something at my feet and I looked down and he’d managed to crack open a bait trap and was happily chewing away at the poison. I immediately realised I had to treat this as a worse-case scenario, called the vet and dragged him out to my ute, which overnight had gotten a flat tyre ffs. Drove him there anyway while putting on my dark knight voice and saying “Stay calm, you’ve been poisoned!” We induced vomiting and gave him the antidote. (Vitamin K) elapsed time between ingestion and violent expulsion was 20 minutes lol. He’s fine btw… The amount of effort he had to go through to actually get to the rat bait was next level. It involved him breaking into the shed, climbing over some stacked crates and in behind a set of shelves to something that I’d put there 2 years ago while experiencing a biblical-level rat plague. Apparently dobermans are one of the smartest breeds but I’ve yet to see any evidence of it! Just glad that he didn’t break into the nuclear waste that I’m also storing there “for a friend” Anyway he’s also now in charge of getting rid of the radioactive mutant rats …

That’s rat bait - you can buy the plastic boxes to put the bait in and slide under a couch or something. If someone threw these out in a park or yard then they are definitely trying to kill a dog, cat or possum. Really nasty to do something like that.

A bloke I work with had a call from his wife saying there was a snake in the yard so he went home to deal with it. He picked it up by the tail and dropped it into a garbage bin then called the snake handlers to come get it. He's pretty clueless about snakes and was surprised when the handlers came all decked out in protective gear. It turned out it was an Eastern Brown which is at the top of the list of the world's venomous snakes and they were horrified to know what he'd done. Ignorance might be bliss at times but in this case he was damn lucky.

34.5 in Indiana? I live in the cold country of Australia, I couldn't handle that heat. Is it dry or humid heat? It's relative you know? Because 36 in Brisbane at dusk is not too bad in dry, but 34.5 in humid conditions is oppressive, if it wasn't for the salt and other stuff in your sweat you could sip from your clothes. In the outback it can get up to 50 but its dryer and most people live underground there (geothermic, smart to do so), closer to equator where Darwin is? You couldn't pay me enough to move there

As a kid growing up in the South Australian mallee farms and small towns along the coast I have seen kangaroos go under, over, through and get tangled in fences. Trying to help a roo get out of a cyclone fence with twin barb lines on top requires quick reflexes and sometimes wire cutters. I have seen the old man emu do some strange acrobatics when facing fences too. They seem to tumble through a fence and with the amount of feathers left behind it's surprising their not bald when they exit on the other side.

We call our 'sodas' Soft drinks because it's non-alcoholic. we don't call them soda's, pop, cola they are all just soft drinks. now i very much love sarsaparilla, but my friends thinks it taste like liquid toothpaste soo each to their own. (i actually don't like Vegemite but my whole family does) edit: also 1:40 ; the chain for the shopping cart has always being too short for you to lock them yourselves to not get your money back to exactly what you thought to encourage returning the shopping cart, the point of the photo is that they finally managed to lock the cart with its own lock.

The round 50c coin was too similar to the 20c coin and sight impaired people could not tell the difference between them by feel. So the 12 sided 50c coin was designed to solve the problem. the trolley dilemma is that they have found a way to loop the chain back onto itself. that red cube looking thing is a couple of wax mouse/rat bait blocks. that snake is a python and is around the average size seen, though we do get larger. Large enough to constrict and swallow a small child. the Bundaberg 4 pack, they are deliberately designed to look like a beer bottle in homage to their origins. they were really the first business to recycle beer bottles.

@@Megabearoz size and shape between the round 50c and 20c coin is what confused many people. As this was year 1 of decimalisation there may have been some confusion with the imperial currency it replaced, but it was more similarity between the 20 and 50 that was more the issue, plus there had not been enough time for visually impaired people to use weight as an addition aid in telling the coins apart. It took a couple of years for this situation to be rectified.
