On another but yet related subject: Volcan Puracé (Poorace) apparently erupted lightly last night. My hometown of Popayán is reporting light ash deposits and a strong smell of sulfur. Just thought I let you know. Continue the amazing work you do!!

Honestly - I like this round-up approach for the "lesser" news items that maybe don't merit a full vid explainer. I know it's a one-off type thing because there's been /so/ much happening, but as a casual observer of geologic events in general, this is informative and interesting for all the non-critical or non-urgent stuff.

Your videos are stunning - not just in topics and information, but also your detailed research, history, the production and editing. Heck, even your audio is even - doesn't fluctuate - PLUS OUTSTANDING NARRATION. 😊 Thank you so much!

Reminder: the increased unrest this week is not due to planetary alignment, the solar maximum, The Smurfs, or changes in the Earth's magnetic fields.

Nice job as always! Big fan here! Do you know something about what's happening in these days with Puracé volcano in Colombia? Today, for the first time in 50 years the streets were covered in ash in my hometown of Popayán, about 27 km NW from the volcano. Seismic activity began since last night, Colombian Geological Service reports tremor-like quakes, and apparently ash and fumes are coming from four vents in the Serranía De Los Coconucos that encompass the Puracé cone, but alert leven wasn't raised to orange? What do you think about it? Thanks!

@@icollectstories5702yep. The Hawaiian emergency services issued a warning about it the other day. Very damaging to skin, Warning said to wear long sleeves and long pants if you are in the area. I assume one should also wear shoes and N95 masks. I was thinking about going there to see the eruption but i think not. Love the big island and will be back but the air quality is bad right now

It is thin glass threads. So it's fragile until it gets into your hair, clothing, or skin. Then it becomes unbreakable.

4:16 also you worded this part wrong, as the volcano still is magmatically active, so heat is being generated.

It happened in Iceland too. Maybe just Basalt? I don’t know
@holly_gmTwb
@holly_gmTwb 11 күн бұрын
It has to do with the silica content of the lava. Basalt meets those conditions. With between 45-53% silica content, it will become viscous enough to create those thin threads as it is launched into the air.

It's near a very populated city, and has the same overall eruptive characteristics. Violent Vulcanian éruptions and periodic abundant lava flows, like in 1914 or 1946.

Because it’s part of the Aira Caldera and situated very close to Kagoshima though it’s really not like Vesuvius in terms of intensity of its eruptions, it’s still close enough to cause potential major harm to its locals.

Consider the planets are lining up this week to cause a greater effect on Earth due to gravity. Perhaps this is contributing to the higher activity.

I can't help but wonder... with the recent activity of numerous volcanoes and earthquakes, could the planetary conjunction coupled with the sun's current magnetic cycle have negative effects on the Earth? Asking for a friend (my inner child). 😁
