Lately, I've been seeing hairstylists, locticians, etc, refuse service if they feel that it will damage their hair. They would either offer treatment to help the hair or refer them to someone else. That would have been the best option here.

My mother was a beautician and had her own shop the last 25 yrs of her life. She always said "I'm not doing anything that will make my customers look bad or ruin their hair. You can bleach your looks but I don’t Recommend it on fully locked dreads. It’s hard to get the product in and out all the way. I say before locking or during the budding stages. Also don’t use 40 or 30 20 and foil is good to go. Low and slow preserves the hair

I’ve been doing hair for almost 10 years- think of it like trying to bleach your hair while it’s up in a ponytail, you wouldn’t right? Cause you’d miss all the middle bits unless you took the ponytail out, basically that’s what happened here. That’s why there were still black spots, when the hair is dreaded like this you can’t truly get the bleach everywhere it needs to go, it doesn’t lather like shampoo, it has to touch every bit of the hair if you want a full coverage lightening. I feel so sorry for this poor soul, they probably cried after they saw the outcome 😭

I’m white with dirty blond hair (for context) My grandma use to own salons and was a well known hair dresser in California back in her day. I really wanted to go blonde, and she said she would do it for free. “I said, sweet! Let’s do it! ily” Guys. Her technique is like 40 years old She brought me from dirty blond (basically medium brown) to white in one session. A lot of my hair was falling out and she said, “that’s what happens when you go blonde.” I tried to explain to her that now a days it’s usually done in sessions to reduce damage and they never bring it to a white, they bring it to yellow and tone it. She said that makes no sense and I should be grateful. So, I acted grateful. It took me a month to repair my hair naturally with oils and leave in conditioners. I didn’t brush my hair four four days while it strengthened. I swear I could have lost three times as much if I wasn’t as cared as I was

I'm so sorry this happened to you! I have thick dark black hair and it took me 4 rounds of bleach to get it light enough. I did a protein treatment and lots of hair masks and conditioners in between sessions. You can go blonde at home if you want! I would recommend Brad Mondo's tutorial as well as his reviews of different bleaches. Also use something like olaplex (I used the ion dupe and it worked well!) and wait between bleaches. I waited a month between rounds. I can't believe the person in this video did 2x in ONE DAY.

It took me a few times to figure it out; the first time I bleached my hair I ended up with my hair snapping off like ramen noodles in the shower because I bleached like 3 times in a week and used like 40vol at the advice of a cosmetologist friend. If you can afford a professional, go for it! (Disclaimer, I am not a hairdresser.) If not, another tip I have is to invest in good bleach, not just the cheapest shit you can find. Using foils makes my bleaching come out more 'even' with no banding/spottiness. If you have fine hair that's already a light brown, I would start with no higher than 20vol and see how you respond. (Do a test strand!) Some people will suggest using 40vol to get blonde quicker but you'll likely fry your hair :/ if your hair gets too porous from damage, it won't hold toner or dye either. A professional is gonna give you better results of course, and my personal policy is that I need to be ready to lose any hair I DIY bleach. (So far so good, I'm black to silver ombre now!) I hope this helps!

Locs are already fragile bc it's an accumulation of loose hair and new growth. Bleaching is definitely possible but it needs more time in between sessions and stay away from any detox's especially with acv and do more conditioning treatments to put moisture back into the hair and strengthen the bonds that haven't been stripped by the bleach. And try not to over lap on already lightened hair. Don't give up and keep learning and practicing and do your thing. ❤️

Nobody listen to this whyt girl she going have your dreads falling out, you never condition dreads, just wash them, dreads are tangled hair not loose smooth hair. The hair can’t not be to soft/straight to dread, my hair took two years to dread because it wouldn’t tangle up. Dye/bleach will damage anybodys hair CAUSE ITS A UNNATURAL CHEMICAL, but even non train hairstyles know your hair can only be bleach dyed once every six months min, or it’s going turn green and possible fall out.

You need to bleach hair with either 30 volume for 35-50min. CHECKING THE HAIR EVERY 10min after 35min has gone by. OR 40 volume for 30 and ONLY re bleach the orange/brown/yellow parts again for 5-20min max. It is essential to cover the bleached hair with foil to retain heat. You can apply low heat to the foils at the 35min market to speed up the bleaching process. But it needs to be even heat application. Only re bleach hair with a 30 volume! Then you MUST use a toner glaze. Toner WILL NOT lighten brown, orange or gold yellow hair. It has to be blondish shades to get the platinum shades. T18 permanent with a cream developer leave on for 30min then rinse. Olaplex No. 3 every 4 days. Apply only to wet hair for 10min then wash as normal to mend the bleach damage. Olaplex 3 does not work when the product dries. It does help for the first Olaplex application to prime the hair with No. 0 can prime the hair before using No.3 but it is not necessary to use No.0 every time. I use No.0 once a month and I use No.3 once a week. Right after bleaching I will use No.3 every 2 days to mend damage from the bleach for 1 month.

Another big part is just knowing what to tell your hairdresser. Some of them will do whatever as long as you're paying them, and some customers don't care what you "think" will happen to their hair; they just want you to do what they tell you to.

I remember there these 2 girls they both have beautiful dreads and loves to dye there hair because they are artists anyway here's a differences between them one girl dye her hair by herself she had a color and keeps putting dye in her hair because it's starts fading her hair is gone she has to use fake hair now the other girl on the other hand she goes to a professional to do her hair and when her hair fades she lets it fade because her hair is healing little bit and use some things to make it stronger then dye it again

The problem is they only put the toner shampoo and didn’t put the actual real toner inside of his hair so the person who is doing his hair did not know how to do hair that’s why he lost hair 😢

I mean technically u can lighten hair twice in one session but no more than that. Like u can go in again right after the 1st rinse long as ur hair still wet. Just deep condition after the color is on n u good. My auntie a beauty college educator. I be gettin all the tea on hair care lolol

As a PROFESSIONAL it’s your job to educate the client and find something that will work. Gone head and invest in some of Bow Wow Silk Durags (Good Quality👌🏽) get 3 of them, Get 4 brushes( soft, medium, hard, and a shower brush), some vitamin E oil, Jamaican Black Castro oil, and tea tree oil. Get some good shampoo and conditioner(no sulfate). You really don’t need any wave grease, get a pin tail comb and detangling brush, a hand mirror and a couple zip lock bags. Cause It’s over for them dreads. Gone head wave it until ya hair grow back out again.

Wow this is tragic 😯that’s why I tell my clients go easy on the hair dye it can mess your hair up something serious if u overly dye your hair.I’ll do one dye and make them wait along time before I dye them again and some of them go to other people or dye them themselves and keep getting different colors then I’ll get that call like my dreads are falling out can u fix it😂😂
