I get where you're coming from, but Speed's popularity and influence is MASSIVE. You could definitely argue that he's the most well known streamer worldwide. I remember traveling to Egypt and some random Egyptian kids on the street were imitating him. It's insane. Beyond just that, Speed has since the very beginning of his career shown his love for One Piece, saying it's the best anime ever. He's also made songs about it. The pfp on his channel has been Luffy since way before he became popular and he hasn't changed it since. But I do agree with what you're getting at, which is why I hope this collaboration can spark a beginning for similar collaborations in the future with creators who are deeper into the anime industry.

I mean there is probably some criteria that he has to abide by. Gigguk has been working with Kadokawa, Muse Asia, etc. trying to convince them of the benefits of allowing streamers to stream anime. He's had several watch parties and even streamed the entirety of Overlord and Dororo and worked to develop contracts for this sort of thing. At first, I believe he was allowed to stream it but keeping a vod up would have been a lot more expensive for him, so it was only live streaming. However, more recently with Overlord I believe they had collected enough data where they told him that it was ok to keep the vod up for a set amount of time. Gigguk doesn't have any connections with Toei from what I know of, but maybe they're thinking of adopting a similar model. I imagine, like Chibi said, that he'll only be able to have the videos available for a set amount of time. He'd essentially have a streaming license except for a lot shorter time period then say Crunchyroll or Netflix.

Most people think speed is idiot but he is actually smart. He is just doing some crazy stuff for the contents. He knows he can get some benefit from that One Piece collab and Toei also know they can get some benefit from that too. After all, One Piece is the most pirated media worldwide, outpacing Game of Thrones and Jujutsu Kaisen. Even then One Piece is still in top 3 most demanding anime of all time based on the official statistics. So, if you combine both official and pirated statistics, One Piece is easily the most popular anime of all time worldwide. That collab is good for speed, good for the audiences and ok for Toei. I just hope that Toei also allow the small content creator to do some fan content based on their properties like One Piece or DB.

4:09 back when I rewatch one piece was when episode 950 was out and I caught up by the time 951 come out at 10pm. It is possible to binge it if you do your own “director cut” you watch the opening and ending once for each one and skip to the next episode mid way ish to the end knowing the recap will tell you what’s up. Now that there is over 1000 episodes now, I bet you can use the extra week to day 14 to catch up.

He's not outright saying it, but I'm sure he probably paid them for what is effectively a streaming license for a set amount of days. I'm sure he probably paid for a license agreement to stream it, so as long as he doesn't break contract he should be fine aside from accidental mistakes from KZbin and Twitch maybe. I know Gigguk has done the same thing with some Kadokawa shows over the past year. At first, even though he had the license agreement, KZbin or Twitch (usually KZbin) would make a mistake even though they were warned ahead of time and their bots would flag it. That's why he always dual streamed it just in case. I think those issues have mostly been sorted out though, because it hasn't been a problem for the last several watch party streams he had.

KZbin on the other hand could still mistakenly flag him. I know Gigguk had that issue with KZbin at first for his watch parties even though they were warned ahead of time, which is one of the reasons why he always dual streamed on KZbin and Twitch in case one made a mistake.
