Yes, your ruler-tool is clever, but as you say, it makes "perfect curves" and by that I assume you mean with a fairly constant radius, a segment of a circle. However, I think the more intriguing curves, that the eye doesn't get tired of, have varying radii. I like hand sketching these, either onto a pattern (for reuse) or directly onto the wood.
