This was horrible to watch. So much missing. Not 'perhaps hundreds of thousands' of kids. 1.2 million, half of them kids (UN figures). In the 10 years 2million dead. You forgot the CIA giving Saddam out of date lists of communists that Saddam had executed. Or the CIA providing weather imagery, and chemical weapons for Saddam to use against the Iranians and eventually the Kurds. The US treatment of Iraq was beyond criminal, and the whole world saw it. That is the root at America's loss of influence around the world.

While a great video I do have to disagree with pinning William Depuy on this. While he did aid in changing Americans military strategy, he did not put it into play. He retired in 1977...and was dead by the end of the first Iraq War. He was also the head of United States Army Training and Doctrine Command for only 4 years and took several of those years to develop his ideas which were still only guidelines and not actual full on tactics to use. Those were developed over time well after he retired. To say it was due to him that America used the tactics the WAY they did, is kinda crazy. I mean, why not blame the inventors of the gun, canon, ship and plane also... Other than that nitpick, it was an enjoyable video.

I’m an Iraqi. When the 2003 war happened I was 9 years old living in Baghdad. I can never forget the images of my beloved city and hometowns landmarks being burned to the ground and I can still hear the sound of the sirens. The Iraqi people from my generation (90s) are completely lost due to this war. This war ruined our lives forever. We were scattered across the globe, we have no place to call home and no sense of belonging anywhere even in Iraq. We completely lost our identity just so the world can call us “democratic country“. My family were never big fans of saddam and his regime. But we never wanted this to happen to us. The American government ruined our lives in the name of freedom. (I have nothing against the American people actually I have many American friends. I’m talking about the government and men and women in charge).

When living abroad I have made many Iraqi friends. The warmth was the reason that my first friends and some of my closest were Iraqis. What the US did to you is unforgivable, it all stemmed from the CIA and the NED putting him into power to ignite a war with Iran. Also Saddam agreed to test out many US created weapons, any gas weapons there were brought into Iraq by the US.

If they were cunning and Machiavellian to adopt this strategy they surely would be able to see that the majority Shia population whose state would be in shambles would fall under the sway of Iran. Hanlon's Razor explains this boondoggle. I do think there's something to the notion that America's grand strategy is to destabilize any part of Eurasia where a hegemon that would be able to project power into the Western hemisphere might arrise. It's what they did during the Cold War, it's what they're doing now in Ukraine. But Iraq in 2003 was never going to be a hegemon. Those in charge truely believed in the neocon dogma; that if they installed democracies in strategic places it would have a kind of reverse domino effect and bring about the new American century. They were very smart people, but smart people do very stupid things when little things like "belief" and "ideology" become involved.

I was stop-lossed into deploying there in April, 2003. My unit provided security for Bremer and his fellow "Ambassadors" in and around Baghdad. It was such an unorganized, chaotic environment. No one knew what was going on. Too many men and women died there for no reason. This deployment was only 6 months for me but it convinced me to not reenlist. This video is spot on.

Was in Army in Germany from 4/01-1/03. 123rd MSB, 1st Arm. Div. In October of 2002, they told us we were headed to Iraq. I and all my friends laughed and started smoking as much pot as we could, getting ourselves kicked out with OTH's. Arrived home Jan. 1 2003. As an son of Iraqi immigrants and person who has visited Iraq multiple times, whenever I ask about what happened after the 2003 war that allowed for Iraq to become a place for corruption and terrorism, nearly all people say it was do to de baathification and the decision to disband the Iraqi army. All the people I asked were Shites who hated the Ba'ath party because of the persecution they endured under the Saddam regime but all of them would still say it was a huge mistake to remove them completely from government in the manner they did. To think that both of these decisions were made by one man, who most likely knew little about the actual situation in Iraq is astonishing, but makes sense because look at the repercussions of his mistake.

It was the right thing to get Saddam loyalists out of the government and disband the Iraqi army which was a force set up and trained for internal repression and external aggression. Well, I am Iraqi, and I left in the 1990s. Yes, for us in Iraq, it did not really matter who led America, Democrat or Republican. Clinton did enhance the sanctions and the sanctions were devastating. I am not sure if this video's intent is to take responsibility away from the Bush family and the conservatives for what they did, but the truth for us in Iraq was that the 1991 war waged by Bush, Powell, Cheney destroyed our infrastructure. Iraq had an educated population, 24/7 electricity, a decent healthcare system, proper sewage treatment. The 1991 war destroyed all electrical plants and sewage treatment plants. We had no clean water, no reliable electricity. The sanctions prevented Iraq from rebuilding. So who REALLY ruined Iraq? It's not just the three men in this video. The sanctions impoverished Iraq. The bombings of the Bushes (both father and son) ended a modern way of life for us.

I was there when Bremer turned over operations to the Iraqis. This video is spot on. Literally putting all those men out of work and onto the street, stripping them of their pride in front of their women and children was devastating. A related problem that wasn't mentioned in this video: Saddam's party consisted of Sunni muslims while most Iraqis are Shia. These two branches of islam have been at odds since the beginnings of islam. By firing them all they lost all influence to the majority shia, and found their only allies to be the iraqi offshoot of al qaeda who are also sunni. The logical outcome was that every fired sunni ex military put their expertise and stashes of weapons to use fighting for iraqi al qaeda. ISIS was the fruit of that.

I was there in 2009. We had an interpreter who had been working with US forces for 4 years or more by that point, and I had to take him to get his badge renewed. It required background checks...iris scans, all kinds of high tech for the time. The US still spearheaded sanctions on Japan which lead to Pearl Harbor, they were monitoring the Japanese military and their expansionism (although they seriously underestimated Japan in many areas) and the US was backing the Allies since day 1. Cash and Carry, and later Lend Lease started off as ways to back the Allies, the US had "volunteers" like the Flying Tigers training and fighting alongside Allied nations, and there was soft support like sharing of intel and technology prior to and concurrent with that. The US wasn't isolationist so much as the American public just didnt want to be directly involved so the US government did what it wanted behind a veil of neutrality. Hell, the US never technically joined the League of Nations but they still had more influence than any nation aside from maybe the UK in it, they built the League and helped establish many agreements like many of the post WW1 mandates, the treaty of Versailles, and Wilson's Fourteen Points had huge influence over interwar politics. The few times when the US should have intervened or weighed in on issues but didnt also caused global problems, like the lack of opposition to Hitlers demands in places like the Sudetenland, emboldened Hitler and lack of support made the British wary and lean more towards appeasement in spite of French demands for opposition to the Nazis.

What this video demonstrates is the validity and truth of the Axiom I created "The stated reasons are never the real reasons. Just saw the entire video. Any analysis of the Iraq War that takes the assumption that the US was trying to establish a liberal democracy in Iraq at face value can't be taken seriously at all. This is like taking seriously the late 19th century claims that the US was taking on the "white man's burden" in the Philippines and Cuba or the justifications made by British and French imperialists for taking over large swaths of other people's land as "civilizing missions". That anyone takes these claims or this video seriously is a testament to the failure of critical thinking in this country.

In late October 2005 I was young and was already Enlisted in the US Air Force and heading to basic training in just a few weeks. I was at our annual family get-together. I remember one of my aunt's friends telling me that the night the Air Force started bombing Iraq in 2003, her and her husband sat and wept in empathy for the Iraqi people. At 19 years old and unfortunately one who had been raised in a conservative Christian upbringing where I had been taught that Muslims were essentially subhuman, I couldn't understand how she could care. 18 years later, I understand and hate who I used to be. What the US government did to Iraq is unforgivable. There are no reparations for Iraqis or convictions for the war criminals from Bush and Cheney down to the soldiers and officers that did the killing that could ever make it right

Likely biggest mistake was disrespecting the standing military after defeat - similar to how the german state was disrespected post 1918; both removed the standing powers and directly fuelled the opposition - thousands of professional Iraqi troops switched to fight with the insurgents as their only possible income source; that meant no democratic government could maintain control in a sectarian state, especially one where the insurgencies were funded on religious grounds

You have to go all the way back to the Iran-Iraq war when the USA was essentially supplying both sides at one point, to form a stalemate conflict. Russia and China only backed Iraqi sanctions, because of their sphere of influence with Iran most likely.

George Galloway was demonised for bringing an injured Iraqi child to Britain for safety and medical treatment. He was denied entry as I remember. I also saw footage of drone strikes where one military person asked 'Is that a child??' It was but the mass murderers replied 'no its a dog'. Journalists were killed, cars, vans and busses were destroyed with people in them. I don't know if that footage is still available. I think it was 2011 I saw these podcasts.
