i was thinking the same thing..... that was a large sum and i'd think if you did make that much, why do you have financial issues? can't pay for a car? only payments are house? making 250+ hmmmmmmmm property taxes must be in the 10s of thousands then??????

No problem? Problem is a car has a deed and both of them are not the legal owner. She would give up her car and use the proceeds to pay for his car. It is like you selling your car, using the proceeds to pay half the car loan for your neighbor because you can use it once a week to get groceries. Sharing a payment only works if a third party owns the underlying item (like sharing rent payments on an apartment) otherwise it is a transfer of equity.

I was born in Buffalo,NY. Lived in the area all my life. Worked in North Buffalo for 11 years. It seems she wants to help her finance with her big income. Bad move, nothing is set in stone until the marriage is final. Buffalo before 2008 was the second poorest city in the usa. She doesn't know how good she has it. I see people at my job every day without a pot to piss in. Also no way she's making $250k. Buffalo has the 5th cheapest cost of living in America. If she sold in the suburb house areas. She would sell a big house. Definitely not in Buffalo. Most of those houses are old and run down.

Luxury cars right now are in trouble. Mainly because of un-affordability. Sell it private party bank cashier's check only, check Kelley Blue book and Edmunds. Be reasonable on the price. Unless she just wants to learn a $17k lesson! My '22 Honda, bought new is now only worth $12k LESS, but I paid cash, and it's a 15-20 year keep. And DON'T pay his debts.. he'll leave you debt free because you paid it, and he'll default on mortgage leaving it all to her! Bad bad bad!

This video clearly demonstrates why Dave SHOULDN'T leave his show to Rachel. Dave's personality qualities that made this show what it is - Rachel doesn't have. When you listen to Dave you can see confidence, experience, knowledge, brutal and necessary honesty - all of it shines through and throws light on the possibility of a better life for the caller. When you listen to Rachel - it's like talking to your girlfriend who is more concerned that you still like her than about confronting you with the uncomfortable truth.

Made more sense when she said they both bought the home together. I suspect the $250K is revenue, not profit. Retail margins are super thin, if you're doing well. I would have liked to know his job/income. If he has a W2 with a good compensation package, which means she'll get to take advantage of the insurance benefits, it's a pretty fair trade-off. I definitely agree. Marry before you make this big financial commitments.

Is it just me or does it appear that every time a rich person calls in they have a pile of debt, and when a poor person calls in they have a small debt? How are you in debt making $250,000 a year. Live comfortably on $100,000 a year and bank $150,000 a year. Buy a simple house, simple car and you will be a millionaire in no time. Most rich people have great jobs but make very poor decisions with their money. I make A LOT less than her and I am 100% debt free.

I agree about keeping the finances separate until they have the legal protection of money -- but I disagree about the advice of not sharing the car/car payment specifically. It can absolutely make sense as a money saving strategy if they don't need two cars and can easily share one. Let's think of it as analogous to a car lease -- and yeah, in general car leases are a bad idea -- but that's where I think it makes sense to give the relationship some benefit of the doubt and assume it'll work out and she'll be saving money by not buying a new car and having her "payments" going toward a debt she'll soon be taking on anyway once they're married. If they do break up -- she's not that much worse off than if it were just an informal car lease and she was paying a couple hundred a month for awhile for the ability to have access to the car. Honestly, entering into an arrangement like that with a true roommate she had no intention of marrying for a year or so wouldn't necessarily be a terrible idea if she just doesn't need a car full time and her share of the payments are reasonable. Yeah she doesn't build equity in the car, but she also doesn't have the responsibility of the car loan, and also shouldn't have to pay for maintenance/upkeep.

In the meantime, she needs to learn to be a grown-up AND apparently so does he! They each manage their lives and clean up the messes they made so they can join together in marriage with full disclosure and more tidy lives - 2 adults building a future as legal partners. Odd that he couldn't tell her how much he owes on his car yet she is still all in.

Because they are to keep things separate. She's thinking of sharing a car with a roommate, which is not a good idea. They each need their own car until they are married. It sounded like she didn't want this car, so get rid of it and get a different one. Or keep the one she has. They said she could do that as well. This girl just wants to share everything with her roommate, which is stupid.

This dangerous position of having no legal protection is exactly what men experience after the wedding, we pay years of work and money into the relationship and then she leaves with everything. In addition to the financial incentive to break the union women have a biological incentive to leave that men don't have. And that is why I will never marry. Male USA resident.
