You need an I-Beam electric hoist. Build a frame over the hole. Have a long enough I-Beam so the hoist can role to a dumping area. Then you also have a good means of getting people in and out of the hole too.

Matt, I was an engineer on the team at Cat that designed your backhoe loader in the early 80's . While nobody ever mentioned mounting a winch on the backhoe, it was basically forbidden (kind of) to use the word "Crane" when talking about the backhoe. This was due to significant legal regulations regarding the design and sale of cranes. I never did any crane design work so I'm not familiar with the specifics.

Most dirt work equipment do not have hold valves on the cylinders like a crane does so if a hose blows on a crane the boom stays up vs dirt equipment will drop the cylinder. The winch issue is most hydraulic/pto winches have one way sprag and also use the pressure to run through a clutch pack/brake ,if pressure is lost it sets the brake. Similar to air brake system override the spring in brake chamber

If you can raise the American Blackbelly ewe to adulthood, she could become a lead ewe and help catch the other sheep. I've had 2 bottle ewes and lost them way too soon. If you want to use your backhoe/excavator as a crane, install anti drop valves on each hydraulic ram. Most new larger excavators come standard. (For the techos: Anti drop valves stop flow from moving in either direction, eg: up/down, until hydraulic pressure is applied to the opposing side, which pilot opens the check valve)

If you are going to insist on parking that at the hole. I would put cribbing inside from the round shelf to the ceiling. If the ceiling cracks you will have no time to get out of the way. Got news for you. If the chain breaks on the PTO winch its going to free spool. I towed 1000's of vehicles with a tow truck using a 10,000lb Ramsey electric winch and had zero issues
