I actually broke through this in a totally different way - if you look at column 2 and look at row 8, both of those have exactly 2 spaces where a 5 can be. since those spaces are in the same box, and there can only be one 5 in that box, they have to intersect, and the only intersection is the circle, which means all 5 circles not on a line are 5s, and it skips a lot of the necessary logic to determine what's on the line because all remaining circles are on the line

This one is impressive in how many different ways you can progress with the logic, I really love this one more by seeing someone else do it

That's how I got started too. I'd already noticed there were exactly five circles off the green line and I had wondered whether they might end up being 5s. Then placing the 5 in box 7 confirmed my suspicion and I was off.

Never before on this channel I saw so many comments, that suggest alternative ways of solution, which is the main reason why I am reading the comments as often as I can. It is fascinating how different ways in logic can lead to the same result an that‘s why I like puzzles that permit different ways to be solved. Even so not every way is fully proven, it shows the creativity of the followers of ctc, inspired by two very fascinating minds, Simon and Mark. Thanks a lot for this.

That was such a convoluted way to find the 9s, Simon... Looking at the 5s places the 5 in box 7 pretty quickly. Then, there were 10 and 9 circles of opposite polarity. Neither of the 2 sets could have 2 or more high digits or we'd go past 10 circles. So one of them HAD to be 9.

For me the easiest way to tell the polarity is the 3 purples in box 6. If they were high the lowest they could be is 6+7+8=21 and there's more than 3 blue circles so it's not possible for purple to be high.

My mom stopped making cakes when me and my brothers were younger because she found she was throwing too much of it away, and instead switched to making giant cookies (we call them "cookie pizzas", and many pizza places have now started offering the same idea). These would always be eaten all too quickly, and are a huge favorite. So I got to enjoy some of that for my birthday instead of chocolate cake, but I still find it the best. All our love from Canada!

I noticed the 5s based on the German Whispers constraint :) 5 can't be green, and if you try to mark out where a 5 can be on the left side of the grid, you end up concluding that a 5 must be circled. But which circles can the other 5s go in? Why, they must be the ones that aren't green.
@KairamekКүн бұрын
My immediate thought when counting circles was there are five circles off the line. Five can't be on the line. That is not a coincidence. It might be a misdirect, but it is intentional.

@nicka36972 күн бұрын
Easier break in if you look at row 8 and column 2 and ask where the 5s are. They have to be at the intersection which gives you 5 5s in the non line circles. Then with remaining high and low groups of 9 and 10 cells it is trivial to deduce the 9 cells must all be 9.
@OlafDoschke2 күн бұрын
True, more precisely box7 tells it, in r8c2, where row8 and column 2 cross is the only place for a 5 and that's circled. Then you only have 5 circles off the whisper line, so they all are 5s. I still also liked Simon concentrating on which of the whisper circles are low and high, leading to 4 being on the line definitely and then also forcing 9 into circles, which meant only blue (in his colouring) could have 9s in them. Could be deduced by row 9, as he saw and told, but also box 4 or box 9, which only have one circle. And then you get the 5s for free as 12349 sums to 19 and 5 is the next lowest digit and only one, that fits to get to the 24 circles total. I also wasn't initially spotting the forced 5. But in easier level puzzles many solve paths exists. It's very elegant and observant, if you spot 5s that way. Starting with them, you still need to get through all the logic about low and high whisper cells and only then get to the full group of 123459. I was only missing concentration of Simon on the other whisper lines T pieces, where only 1289 can go, or 128, once all 9s are known. I got the whisper in (mainly) box 4 first, mostly complete.
@penningmeestercgkdelft91592 күн бұрын
Yes, that's exactly how I did it too!
@shawnheidingsfelder81792 күн бұрын
My break in was in box 6. You have three circles all marked with the same color. If they were high, you'd have problems, the least of which is that you couldn't have 9 nines in circles. Even if you made them 6, 7,and 8, you'd have a hard time filling in the rest of the circles because you'd already be at 21 and you know you need at least 4 different digits to fill in the circles.

a small oversight in the logic for purple being low at the start. simon said that if purple is low, they have to be 234s, but we could also have a 1 in purple and shift one of the 2,3 or 4 into the circles off the belt. what we can say however is that there is at least 3 4s on the belt and so some 9s on it and the rest of the argument still stands

My emotions at the beginning of the video were hilarious so let me walk you through them. First of all I was shocked when Simon chose EXACTLY the same colours as me. Then a quite funny dialog evolved. "So i think we have to prove that purple is NOT low digits." Huh?? "There would be four on the line. And if we put four here there would be nine nines in circles." Yeah and what's the problem with that? "Ah! So blue cannot be low!" Yeah.. After that I just leaned back and gave approving nods..

My way of working out the numbers on the lined circles was to just look at it like this: You have a set of 9 circles whose numbers add up to 9 and a set of 10 circles whose numbers add up to 10. One set can only have low digits, the other set can only have high digits. Well, the lowest 2 high numbers (6 and 7) add up to 13. So you have to just go with 9 as the only viable high number and it fills the set of 9. From there it's fairly trivial to realize the set of 10 numbers that have to all be low has to be 1234 and then of course the last 5 circles are 5s.

I followed a similar scheme of alternate coloring for the belt for the break in, but instead of looking at row 9, I was attracted to box 6. There we see there are three Purple digits in Simon's coloring. But even if we used the absolute lowest high polarity values of 6, 7,8 those alone would account for a whopping 21 of our 24 circles, but without being able to use any of the blue circles (since purples would be high on this path of logic) and there just simply aren't enough circles to cover that. That tells us that Purple must be low. Could do similar logic on column 2.

At 19:12 Simon, I wonder if you would see the pencil marks and found digits better if you shaded with a different color than that blue. R5c2 is clearly an 8. At 23:11 you immediately found the 1 in box 5 in the same basic configuration, and did not fix the 8 in box 4. At 28:12 you raced around the grid in one of your amazing progressions, and I expected you to find the 7 in r9c2 as quickly as you had found the others, but it seemed you did not see the 8 in r5c2 and stopped. Maybe the light blue on the third page of Sudokupad color pallets would provide more contrast. Thanks, as always, for a very entertaining video.
@HackerAteshКүн бұрын
There is a much simpler break-in to this puzzle. Spoiler warning for anyone who hasn't solved on their own yet and would like to First, it's possible to deduce that the circle in r8c2 is a 5, because the only place a 5 can go in row 8 is column 1 or 2, and the only place a 5 can go in column 2 is row 8 or 9. From this, you need to place four other 5s in circles, and the only possibility is to take up the four remaining circles that aren't on the whisper lines Then, you only have the circles on the long whisper line remaining. There can only be a single repeating high digit, because any combination of two or more high digits would take up way more than the circles allotted by either polarity. Your choice is between nine circles or ten, so 9 obviously has to go into the polarity with nine circles

Sorry if this is stupid, but I don’t understand why Simon’s reasoning around minute 17.00 confirms that there are 9s in the circles on the belt. Could there not have been 8 and 6 in circles instead, with nine of those 6/8s being on the belt and five of them in the circles outside of the belt? I thought we needed to find the circled 5 in box 7 to confirm that it was 9s and 5s in the circles rather than 6s and 8s.

I was about to type the same thing, good to know I was not the only one thinking about this (and getting confused because i tried it on my own and couldnt figure it out). If you look at row 8 and column 2 they force a 5 into the circle, which leads to forcing the logic that you started with for purple and blue.

Column 2 is where you start. There are three circles with the same high/low parity. If they were high, they'd need to be one each of either 6,7,8 or 9. Minimum value 21, leaving just three circles for low digits ...
@MarushiaDark3162 күн бұрын
Another easy way to rule out purple being high is to note there are three purples in Box 6, the minimum of which would need to be 6, 7, 8 which add to 21. Not only are there not 21 purple circles, there are not 21 circles on the line period, let alone the fact that the remaining circles would have to add up to three, so either three 3's or a 1 and two 2's, which would break the line somewhere.

I was confused about when Simon places all the 9s and then the five 5s. Question being: why couldn’t it be eight 8s and six 6s? Not sure if I wasn’t paying attention to his explanation enough?

But he usually makes a point of picking orange and blue, saying that he believes they're the most colour blind friendly combination. (Not to mention, Mark would always switch to using blue for low digits and orange for his high digits. Not for Simon though. Blue can be high and purple can be low. No channel consistency 😔)
