I once asked a New Jersey Cop the best way to keep your car from being stolen . He said to install 2 separate Kill switches in 2 different locations on your car . ( for example , one under the hood and one in your trunk ) He said even if the thief finds one of them , usually they will drain the battery down before they realize that there is another kill switch and its not going to start .

Locksmith reference: Just get a car with a good immobilizer like Benz, BMW, Rover or 2015+ VW/Audi group, the harder it is to program a key when lost the safer! Never get a Hyundai/Kia if worried about theft, they don't even have an immobilizer, and usually poor pick resistance on the ignition lock (push start is safer though), cheers.

At the end of the day, if someone wants your car bad enough, they'll find a way to get it. These are for the amateurs or perhaps ill-prepared car theives. But the professional ones, they know how to get cars. Having a manual transmission or kill switch or even removing breakers from the fuse box won't necessarily prevent a professional from stealing your car. It may slow them down, but they'll find a way. A rope, a jack and a dolly is all you really need. Once they get your car to a "safe" place, they'll figure out the other stuff so they can sell it. Just make sure your insurance is upto date, and don't make your car too appealing to thieves (ie. don't leave valuables in view, keep your car clean inside and out, etc).

As a retired LEO I've seen cases where the stupid criminals have actually stolen vehicles with manual transmissions even though they didn't know how to operate it. It made it easier to catch them but some vehicles ended badly damaged

I put a small push button switch behind the door panel near the pull up lock knob on the door. I could reach over and push that switch and operate the lock knob with my thumb at the same time. No one ever knew it was there. Worked like a champ. It had a supercharged 440 dropped in for lots of shopping. Lol. The switch kept the honest thieves honest. Lol. Jpol.

Either fuel injection relay or the fuel pump relay will work. Just something that's not a fuse that anyone could carry around. When I park at the airport now, I pull the fuel pump relay. That way the pump doesn't work (although I do park in an enclosed parking garage with 24x7 security guards driving around but it's an extra step to ensure the car can't really be stolen that easily.) NOW the key is to NOT lose the relay while you're gone, because if you do, and you don't realize it until you get back you're going to have to get one, which is far better than having your car stolen, but still a headache. I had a friend who did this trick once, and lost the relay during a trip and I had to give him a ride to an auto parts store to buy another one so he could drive his car home from the airport.... Personally, I think removing at least the relay is a better alternative to a kill switch as Scotty says. And even if they manage to reprogram the car, they will still have to get a relay / breaker to activate the fuel pump, and by that time (if you park in an area where there are other people, they will be noticed. In fact I got stopped one time at the airport because I was putting the relay back in my car and the on-site police officer asked to see the car registration and my license.

If you have an older GM vehicle you can also pull the linkage rod that connects the ignition slide on the column to the ignition cylinder so when you turn the key forward it doesn't activate the starter. Then you wire your cigarette lighter to your starter solenoid and the cigarette lighter becomes a push to start button and it works great. Wiser than average car thieves my carry a spare relay or maxi fuse or two but I'll bet a dollar to a dog biscuit they do not carry spare cigarette lighters 😋

When i bought my 2016 Jeep, they said those couldnt be stolen because of the wireless keys .. in 2019 it was stolen in under a minute by them just programming a new key via the OBD port. So, I’m studying Mechanical Engineering and I’ve got to do a project that stops or delays someone from stealing a vehicle I’m not sure if I try to only test if this works, will it cause problems to my car? Like, taking it off, trying to start it and then putting it back and trying again To later be able to use the car again like nothing happened
@robertotr

What can be done is to take one of the wires that comes from that relay and put a switch in the middle and bring that switch to somewhere inside the car, hidden. So before start, you have to put the switch ON. I'm looking for something similar to what they did on Mad Max movie, on the girl truck. She had to do like a combination before start the engine. 🤔
