Saw Konstantin's video when he opened that wine. It's amazing you got to try it to. The oldest wines I've had were both opened after 50 years of aging; A Chateau Margaux '61 in 2011 and a Chateau Latour '71 in 2021. Both alive and sublime. I have another 1961 bottle from Chateau Palmer which I don't have the guts to open.

I don't know why you aren't getting as many views. I haven't tried any really old wines - I get excited when I find something I can afford that's ten or fifteen years old. By the way, in my exploration of local (Texas) wine, I ran across a Sangiovese that I would not recommend. Just a heads up - I know that's one of your favorite grapes.

I have yet to try madeira, and, though it is unlikely that I will ever have the privilege of tasting one that old, this video has made me more enthusiastic about trying it, than ever! It must be such a humbling, yet, proud, somber, yet, exciting experience to try a wine that old! Unlike other physical things that can be handled, wine is such a precious commodity, that is unique, as it can only be experienced once, and then it is forever gone. No wonder you had goosebumps!

Great video. Thanks to both of you for making this happen. I love Madeira - it is my after dinner wine of choice (almost always with cheese). I love Port too but that is a more occasional treat. I used to attend and organise tastings for many years and an 1878 (? - can't remember the exact year) Madeira Bual is the oldest I have drunk. It was at a tasting in York, 30 odd years ago. Amazingly, the chap sitting next to me hated it and gave me his (tiny) allocation. It was a wonderful experience. My usual tipple is a 5 year old Malmsey with a 15 yo Bual for special occasions. I prefer Bual to Malmsey but it is much harder to find. I holidayed in Madeira many years ago and spent a happy afternoon at Blandy's. It is a lovely island - you must go. Good walking trails as well.

Ohhhh wowzaasss... You are a hardcore Madeira guy. I do want to go... I know Port pretty darn well and go their often but for some reason my in-depth knowledge of Madeira isn't as high as I'd like it. 5 Year old Malmsey is not a bad way to go and I have one sitting right next to me at the moment.

I actually have a 1914 madeira and I really think I’ll never ever open it. My grandad bought it cause 1914 was the year before ww1 started in italy and his father was one of the “ragazzi del ‘99” (boys from 1899) and he died in ww1 so it was pretty significant to him. Now that I’ve written the first part I remembered that in 1990 I tried a 1946 Grahms port. So, 44 years old at that time. I was given the glass by accident when I ordered a glass of Grahms for $5.00.
