It's almost as though this sweet horse is afraid of people. Maybe it's young in the service? BIG HUGS to the patient, gentle Guard who kept petting and stroking the frazzled horse. All of the officers, fellow Guards were sweet with the horse; it was awesome to watch their kindness. I guess I didn't get the memo but what uniform is that? And where are my beloved Life Guards and Blues? This uniform looks like something from a 19th Century operetta!! Not cool, man. Just my opinion...

Animals are the best judge's of character. You may be able to fool a person, but never an animal. They are extremely intuitive, and some are more sensitive than others. I always trust an animals instincts.

People, sadly, ignore their finely tuned feelings and that's one reason humans are wrong more times than they're right. That plus our arrogance that WE are better than "lowly animals"! They’re temporary while the regular horses have their holidays. These are used to public duty but not necessarily being pawed and stared at. This poor baby is just trying to get as far away from people as possibly. That’s how easily a horse can get upset. One small almost insignificant act by a human and the horse now expects the worse from all the tourists. The guard is being brilliant with the horse, keeping him as calm as possible and encouraging him. They can’t give in and take him out of the situation or all respect for his rider will have been ruined. I just wish people read animal body language.

You can tell these “temporary” horses from the usual ones by their manes, or lack of them. The artillery horses have their manes cropped, apparently to stop them getting tangled in the harnesses used to pull gun carriages.

You should never stare straight at an animal. Prey animals see it as a threat and it can result in an acute stress response. Predators see it as aggression or a challenge for dominance. It never ends well.

Absolutely true. Stare is aggression/ dominance. Had an Alaskan malamute male. A big one. He loved other dogs, even tiny ones and wanted to play. He hated border collies. One was staring at him and half circling like they do with sheep. He tried to kill the collie. Absolutely 0 experience with horses. I went to the police stables with 40 giant police horses with an internship. Horses are very sensitive and smart. They didn't like some people and backed away. And I just stood there in front of the box looking, thinking wow what a magnificent animal. And they all came to me and I could touch them. All of them. They can sense your intention. Dogs same. Visited a friend from school. Her father had 2 big guard dogs. Very hostile to strangers so her father was there to open the door. I entered the house, dogs saw me and ran into the house to get their toys and came back cause they wanted to play with me. Dad said I've never ever seen them do this before. Wtf. And no idea why. Animals are just very sensitive and smart.

​@@louisekant8488there's no room for a safe barrier. The horse could go right thorough one and there could be a horrible outcome as Whitehall is a very busy road. The horse and guard need room to maneuver. And people like me use the pedestrian walkway. The Ministry of Defence owns what is inside the gates. Outside is public property. Many people haven't been next to a real horse. Fewer have seen one with a rider in fancy dress. So they want a photo. A horse hit a barrier during the Coronation Parade and knocked it down squashing a police officer. The horses weigh over 1500 pounds. Very strong. Horses spook for a variety of reasons. A piece of litter blowing past, an annoying flying insect, noises. I don't think people upset this horse. Could be wrong about that though. The Ministry of Defence wants the horses and guards out there for PR reasons. The horse is out in the sentry box for one hour at a time every other day. The Guards at the Arches do two hours a day. With the heat they'll be brought in.

These guards are the royal gunners. They are filling in for the Blues and Royals and the Kings Life Guards while they take their summer break. they went to Scotland this year and they stay 3 weeks. You should watch the beautiful videos taken when the horses and riders were on the beach and swimming in the ocean. These horses normally do not have such public contact, that's why they're a bit nervy.

These horses of the King's Troop, Royal Horse Artillery are not so well trained for this particular duty as those of the King's Lifeguards and the Blues and Royals, who normally do this dity. The King's Troop horses are usually harnesses up to gun carriage linbers, which they can transport at a fast pace if necessary.

Artillery horses are smaller & not used to being overwhelmed by up close & personal rudeness. This is harassment & abuse of actual solders & service horses. There should be painted red lines that say “Danger”, police nearby to stop idiots & fines on those that cross the lines. Photos can be taken 6 feet away, thus eliminating all that touching of the poor horses’ faces & having them surrounded by loud crowds of people that yell & move fast & make gestures. You only need to look at his ears - a universal signal for I'm very unhappy and back off! The Guard handled him beautifully and I bet he was wishing he could tell people to just sod off! I’ve been around horses all my life. ‘Reading’ the body language this horse is a little frightened. Too many people just hangs out just before these soldiers. I wish they would make the crowd stand back further. This soldier-horse is demonstrating anxiety. So sad! I love the black soldier-horse lol. He backs those ears back and starts biting lol. Too many crowds. Horses fell the auras around people. 😢
