@@tonyprice2256 Or if you do, have proper protection or weaponry. People will always solo hike/bike/etc and that shouldn’t have to change. It’s all about being smart and knowing your surroundings/potential threats.
@tonyprice2256 Жыл бұрын
@@LWoodworth95 Well anyone can and will do what they want to do. Hiking is probably a safer activity than jogging or biking though. The trouble with biking and jogging is that you are moving faster and less able to be aware of your surroundings and potential threats. When you are moving, especially on a bike like these people were, to a predator you look like prey fleeing from them, and you can not outrun a bear or cougar on a bike, nor could you fire any weapon from one effectively. With a cougar, you wouldn't even see him coming until it was too late. They could get you from behind, from the side or drop down from a tree on you. Cougar attacks are very rare, but all it takes is one to ruin your life. If you are hiking, you can be more conscious of everything around you, but you are still taking a risk. Lone predators are less likely to attack groups because they can see that they are outnumbered. But sometimes they even attack groups. I remember a story of a woman who was killed by a cougar in Canada who was horseback riding with her three children. Her young son was the first one to be attacked and severely injured. She jumped off her horse to save her son by fighting the cougar, but lost her life in the process. All the horses fled, but all the children were saved. A guy with a gun finally came along and shot the cougar that was guarding his kill.

I met Marine & her husband back in 2012, she came into a store I worked in & we bonded over being survivors of animal attacks. I'd told her I'd been bitten in the face by a dog when I was five & had to have a bunch of work done because it'd ripped my cheek upward (opposite direction & cut as hers & not as big) I'd gotten my nose broken in the process & had been blinded for a while from it, it made my face look sort of crooked from the nerve damage & gave me eye problems. She told me all about her story & I was literally shaking. We held eachothers hands & hugged before she left, she was so kind to me. For years I'd been so self conscious & would often lie about my scars or "weird face" because I just didn't feel comfortable telling anyone about what happened to me. She was the first person I ever told my story to & after meeting her it took me a few more years of building acceptance for myself to be comfortable to share what happened to me without feeling shame or embarrassment... but meeting Marine was the catalyst to my healing & acceptance journey - I'll never forget her & I'll always be grateful for her! Hope she's doing great these days. Today I look at my crooked smile & find beauty in my imperfections, Idk if I would have never experienced this if it hadn't been for meeting her.

Well done to her husband for showing her true love. It just goes to show ya live everyday to the fullest because we never know what tomorrow will bring. 🖐🖐🖐
@WonderfulLifeToo2 жыл бұрын
Kendra, please note that the man who made the 911 call was not the same man who was killed. If you go back to the 3:48 mark, you'll see that Anne stopped briefly to ask a man why he had stopped by the side of the trail. The man simply says "I found another bike". Anne then ignores the man, saying I thought "he's just messing with me". She then proceeds down the hill to the confrontation with the mountain lion. In one of the other specials on this story, more time is spent discussing what had already happened: the bike was indeed abandoned because the rider of that bike had been attacked and killed by the mountain lion. That man was Mr. Reynolds. In other words, the man who had ridden on the abandoned bike, who she never sees, was already dead long before Anne was attacked. Although a rather good summary of the incident, this program is still a bit rushed at only 21 minutes in length, so misunderstandings of the sequence of events is quite understandable. One more thing: although it's been a while since I watched the other specials and interviews with Anne, I am certain that Anne makes the point to NOT demonize the mountain lion. That's because the primary cause of the attack is not the mountain lion, it's the ever diminishing living space for wild animals, caused by the most dangerous species on the planet: the one we all see when we look in the mirror. 😞
