Miss Saundra reminds me of myself. I take care of the regular chickens, Cornish X (will dispatch, if I need to), pigs, turkeys, dogs, cat, pet mice and rats, ball python, cleaning of the coops, brooders, pig pen, 18 large garden plots, canning and freezing, mowing, weed eating, tractor work, etc. My hubby works full time and doesn't have much time. I'm a stay at home wife, with a broken back, but I get things done methodically. I wouldn't trade it for the world. Happy homesteading, you two! 🙏🏻❤️

Thanks for sharing. I know a lot of people have had issues this year due to how wet the weather has been. Good luck! We always compost our chicken scraps from processing. It makes great compost. God bless!

If you built a wall with some of your offcuts from the mill you could maybe get more hay in the shed? It would give it more to lean on and you could go another round higher. Doesn't have to be pretty timber. Any of the small offcuts would work. Gotta love the chicken. She knows if she nice to Soundra she will get all the good stuff. lol 🥰

You two are rockstars. Sure love watching you two. I’m working our garden in our short season in Utah 7,000 feet above sea level. My garlic is going great and my 120 plants ( corn, peppers, tomatoes, okra) I transplanted as they were in grow shed for 2 months. We have progress. Best wishes

Hey Chuck, have you considered putting a layer of topsoil down to plant in on top of that compost? it would give the compost some time to cool off and allow that seed to sprout in a medium that shouldn't burn it.

It's still the first week of June so there's plenty of time to get the second half of the garden up and running this season.

You could open a row and add either potting mix or aged/cool mix to the hot. That should help. Love the pet chicken!
@davidcraig93056 ай бұрын
Hey Chuck, with the garden bed that won't grow- dig a fresh trench row and fill it with potting soil. Replant the seeds and the roots will grow near to the hot soil and only use what nutrients they need. Good luck

to fix the hot compost problem, mix in some additional soil to the hot compost areas and mix it in well to dilute it.Then replant. you have plenty of time. And watch out for hot chicken manure in the future.

Will you ever buy a small grain bin?
@pamelamercado69026 ай бұрын
If your compost is still composting and hot I'd keep watering it so it will still keep composting and it will reach out some of the nitrogen so that it doesn't burn the seeds or the plant roots. The only other thing I've ever done is took and purchase some potting soil and I would make a hole I put that potting soil in it then I would do my seats or plant my plant. I believe you can never have too much hey as you said there is many ways to use it

I had a mess up with one of my garden patches as well. We moved the meat chicks uphill and it came a gully washer so dern bad, we weren't able to move them for days...and the rain never stopped. Washed all that hot chick poo right onto some of my mators and peppers. Yikes. What a mess it's been here in SE OK, but the critters sure are growing good. Mayhap I should look into that carnivore diet? AHAHAAAA... Nope. I'm a mator girl for life! Thing's happen, that's the truth.
