Hatch is so articulate and on point about foreigners insisting on changing Thailand and Thai people. Foreigners are guests and need to respect that privilege

The only things I want to change in Thailand are things many Thais want to change too, like the massive carelessness on the roads and the resulting death toll.

I would be one of the foreigners who criticises missionaries, not because of "had bad experiences" ( 6:02 ) but because "... foreigners ... wanting to change Thailand ... and they want people to change too" ( 8:59 ), and I think that is the whole purpose of missionaries. Trying to change people. Hatch seems to be a nice guy, though.

I didn't know they had bidets in Thailand. I always thought it' s a really French thing but I feel that they are phasing the bidet out in France because you see it much less in hotels or in homes. Also so amazing and great to see two foreigners speaking together in Thai. I don't know if it's a difficult language to speak bu twhen I see it written it certainly seems so

I am originally from Northern Thailand, but I must confess, I don’t dare to indulge in the extremely spicy som tam you folks enjoy. In Thailand, people from the Northeastern and Southern regions tend to favor spicier dishes compared to those from the North. Nevertheless, I am making an effort to embrace spiciness. The spicy dishes from the Northeastern and Southern regions are incredibly delicious, I must admit.

All these famous KZbinrs, Adam Bradshaw, My Mate Nate etc are all missionarys. They go through extensive Thai courses, all paid for by the Mormon Church, and then thrust onto the KZbin stage to make money. Anyone can become fluent in Thai with the time, money and privilege afforded to them by the church. At least Paddy did it the hard way... all by himself.

Do they stop their missionary work after becoming KZbinrs?
@mythai0511 ай бұрын
@@breadgarlichouse2265In answer to your first question: I doubt it. As he said in the video, when people gave him a hard time when he was a missionary he didn't take offense. It (his religious belief) was something that was important to him AT THAT TIME, which implies that it isn't important to him now. Hatch has also recently appeared in a TV commercial for a brand of coffee. (The Mormon church is against drinking coffee.) It looks to me like Hatch has strayed from the flock. 😂
Hopefully when I retire here in 6 years I can learn to speak Thai half as well as the two of you.

I would be happy to return and live in Thailand. Maybe when I retire and take all my life savings, retirement to go back and live in Thailand. USA is becoming too expensive to afford.
Apart from his accent that is still a bit farang, all the nuance with choice of words he made are 95% Thai. Paddy is much, much better than what he was year ago. Your accent is more farang than Hatch, choice of word is I think around 85% there. Anyway, my skill in speaking English is far less than yours Thai lol.

The taste of Somtum in Thailand is different from Laos, many ingredients in Somtum especially the Somtum Thai ( not put fermented fish)is in central Thai, Ayutthaya which is international city in the past many hundreds years ago so there were many ingredient from other countries such as tomato, peanut, or even papaya was also from South America, dried shrimp also have to be near by the sea but Laos is a land lock country so where they can get shrimp in the past? It’s the same that we say Ramen is Japanese food not Chinese food even the noodle soup is originated from China, but the local ingredients make it different from the original and become different menu. The Somtum, papaya salad that the foreigners know is from Thailand. The Laos later make somtum like Thai somtum because of a lot of Laos have worked in Thailand and when they went back home they just copy how to make Somtum in Thai way for example not putting shrimp paste.

These YT's talk about getting to know the Thai culture, yet they pursue Isaan food cafe's/restaurants. The area of Isaan was frowned upon by the real Thai community for decades and has only became more accepted in the last 25 years. Im not entirely sure, but I believe these guys are speaking the Isaan dialect of Thai, which although a great achievement is frowned upon by the speaker's of the real dialect.
