It is interesting how Thais often assume that someone who speaks Thai must have learned from a girlfriend or wife. A major reason I have my wonderful wife is because I spoke Thai long before meeting her. Over the decades, assumptions and questions never really change. I am sure it is confusing for them that you have spent so little time in Thailand yet speak at this level.
@anthony709111 ай бұрын
Yes. I was at a party in Switzerland 5 years ago with my Thai girlfriend at the (now wife? and some Thai lady kept telling my girlfriend that l probably have many Thai girlfriends because of my Thai! She didn’t believe that l am self taught 🤷🏼♂️
@repeattravels192211 ай бұрын
lol. My girlfriend corrects my Thai. I do wrong word order sometimes or wrong tone. The words and sentences I learn on my own. So having a partner is great way learn.
@villagefarang11 ай бұрын
@@repeattravels1922 One definitely needs to speak with Thai people as well as study Thai but girlfriends are not typically the best at teaching Thai. Sometimes they don't know how to teach and sometimes they simply don't want to embarrass their boyfriend by constantly correcting his mistakes. They also get used to guessing what it is he means to say.

I'm Thai, born in the USA and was raised in Thailand and had my education in the USA. I, too, assumed that because Thai is only spoken in Thailand. It is not like other languages where it is spoken in multiple countries. There is really no reason to know Thai unless you have a significant other or do a lot of business in Thailand.

I have a question. When I listen to Thai Top 10 music hits, I can’t pick up on the tonal changes in the words. I’m literally done deaf, so I struggle a little bit hearing and registering the differences. When they sing, how do they stay faithful to the melody whilst being tonal in their pronunciation?

Kotaï nitnoil krap 😁. If someone want visiting Amphawa Floating Market, take care it's only open Saturday and Sunday (little open Friday evening). It's more difficult to come to this place from Bangkok because few people speak English. And take care so many time hotel and guesthouse are full because it's a week end relaxing place for Thaï people from Bangkok.

Why don’t you engage at all with the other aspect of the culture, the core of the culture? Why don’t you go in 3 day meditation retreat or at least talk with some monks at a forest wat as the city wats are so corrupt. Or you could do one focusing on the ghost culture which is huge in Thailand. Based upon Buddhas psychological teaching.
