Keep in mind that Thailand was ranked #1 in people that ADMITTED they had an extramarital affair. That doesn't prove anything other than Thais are honest about their dishonesty. I've seen other lists where Thailand is ranked #4, and #13. It depends on how the question is asked and how data is collected. Thailand does not rate the highest on paternity fraud. Thailand does not rate highest on acceptance of extramarital affairs. The video proves nothing. You've asked people their opinion of a statistic that is impossible to prove. If someone agrees with an unprovable fact, that is not evidence that the fact is true, it simply shows their opinion.

I now live in rural Thailand. It seems to be accepted by society that “ men will be men” and leave their wife / partner for a new woman. The sad part is seeing the kids neglected by the Thai father. No shame.

As a westerner, it took me a while to understand how it is basically impossible for a Thai woman to get any money out of the father of her child if he doesn't want to pay. So unlike the west where the whole legal system will make sure she gets money.

This is SOOOO true. I lived in thailand for a year and tried dating thai guys. The first guy casually admitted he was married after seeing me for a month. I thought that was just a one off but then the second guy said the same thing. After that I made a point of asking guys if they were married immediately after meeting them and many admitted they were looking for a sidepiece. Cheating is rampant there and its the one thing that turned me off this otherwise beautiful culture

I wouldn't judge the Thai men, especially as a male tourist!!!! Nowhere else in the world do you have these opportunities for "adventures for adults". Thais and foreigners are the same in this matter. There is a saying in the West, "Opportunity makes thieves" and in Thailand it is like this "Opportunity make you want adventure"

I used to hear my older brother and his friends always throw the word เจ้าชู้ Jao Chuuu (I think it means unfaithful or playboy) around when i was a kid. It was like something you said with pride, I always thought it was weird haha.

There are a few factors that play a role, kids see and hear about their grandfather, uncles and father doing it. So grow up thinking this is what men do. In Thailand men fool around then leave and don't have to pay any support, so don't think twice about it. Also in Thai society many women are looking to improve their status, so some single women will try and hook up with a man in a relationship already , to increase her status. So many thing in Thai culture are based on your status!

Very common and imo it’s weirdly accepted from what I’ve seen. For instance, the wife knows the husband has a “bangkok wife” but the main wife takes pride in being the main wife actually having kids with the man.

In my experience, she is not proud or happy about it, but she may tolerate it as long as he continues to be a good provider. Also, the younger generation is much less likely to put up with this behavior.

Consider the fact that Thai "friend/partner" culture is playful and non dualistic ... Thai language discribes: Puean (normal friend) , Faen (girl/boy partner friend) , Gig (friend with a bebefit) ... Moral is relativisme ; moral is naturaly given to everyone. Psychologicaly : a person cheating is quiet often dealing with issues about themselves... (Self esteem) What a life ! Beauty Thailand and its wonderful people keep it on.

It might be due to the availability of bar girls. If prostitution was as available in the west, it would be far easier for people to have sex outside their relationships. The survey might have been done in cities compared to the countryside though. Hard to cheat out in Isaan where everyone knows everybody.

Not only Thai men but also Thai woman, I have girlfriend 2 times when I was in Thailand. Both are Thais (one from Bangkok and one from Isaan Province Roi Et).... The one that I met in Bangkok is really nice to me and she is cheating with other men behind me, so I decided to leave her (yes she is kind of Money Extorted from me).. And the second one I met the new girlfriend from Roi Et Province and we have nice relationship but after 5-6 month She is not really responded, so after a long period I knew she is cheating with other man behind me looks like she has new Thai Boyfriend, and I decided again to leave her...

I totally believe that survey, because Thailand has so many beautiful girls that infidelity is a temptation, especially in Bangkok. Also, I believe the ratio of women to men is high in Thailand. Of my 17 trips to Thailand, I definitely see more women than men.

Come on it is their game, their rules. So they are not filled with Christian notions of guilt or morality, what's the big deal. You can't expect them to follow the rule of some country they have never been to. It is not a total free-for-all, there are rules of engagement and they have to be careful not to push it too far. Sex is one thing but making your wife lose face is a completely different matter.

@@beau_de_jour They simply have a different sense of morality. The guys all said they didn't see casual sex as cheating. Western guys tend to think sex of any kind is cheating, maybe because that is what women tell them. When you are married, going out with clients or a guys night out might be accepted but if you embarrass your wife there could be consequences depending on whether she has options. Often women are financially dependent upon men, and men knowing they have a social and financial advantage may be tempted to take advantage of that. It is a complicated subject and difficult to cover here. Just try to understand that our judgmental attitude about their behavior is more due to our own hangups than anything else.🙏

@@villagefarang i totally agree on your take, that’s a very sharp thinking you have, and i really resonate with it. it’s indeed a complex topic to cover in few comments here! but just wondering if you know better: the outcome is that thai really do cheat more due to the absence of shame on cheating? (my question) i really think that sometimes foreigners and thai relationships don’t work for cultural differences, and goes both ways. foreigner not understanding thai and thai not understanding whatever foreigner country customs. to be honest i see more thai women/ foreigner man relationship, and i see a big sense of entitlement on the women about their own culture which is fair to a certain point and the expecting others to comply with their own culture too. I mean, I don’t see much a “meeting right in the middle” but more a “we do like this cause it’s my culture”. i’ve seen this mostly on women, but that’s just based on my experience, doesn’t mean is the whole truth of the story.

Damaged people, chasing damaged people, and entering into transactional relationships with poor communication skills and no cultural understanding is a recipe for disaster. It is so easy have misunderstandings when people can't speak in complete sentences. Both sides are always guessing or projecting but not understanding. Sorry there is just too much here to deal with.

totally agree mate. i’m from italy and move to perth a year ago, and i found aussie quite friendly and bright people. it’s just formal politeness but for sure there is not a 2nd goal on that friendlyness. instead in thailand or bali for instance as well, the smile and kindness MAY BE cause of an ulterior motive (usually money). ps italians are grumpy at all, but i found aussie more chill and smiley, especially women
