Me too. I was born blind & had serious medicsl problems and had many many surgeries from birth on ( o know ive at least had 45 surgeries ) and was bullied for most my childhood . Even though my condition was able to be improved enough to be legally blind, I struggled badly with bullies. The only time people were nice to me was bc I’ve always been a really good artist , csn draw or paint anything free hand , have also had a lot of musical talent , vocally snd instrumentally and taught myself to play many instruments in short periods of time . Ended up going to college on full scholarships but even jn college it was hard to make friends. Ppl that had to compete against me hated me just for the fact that I was good at something. I just wanted to have a good life and was nice to folks. Still am lol but I hsve a lot of social anxiety . Didn’t have a good upbringing jn the house I grew up in either so I’ve just felt alone mostly and used to struggle to be accepted. I didn’t try to be like everyone else , just struggled to know who I was and to be loved snd accepted. When i became a mommy , I knew a love unlike anything I’ve ever fathomed snd I thank God so much for blessing my life and giving me the most precious gift I could ever know. When she began school I was so scared she was going to be bullied. Things were bad for her first 2 years. We moved bc of it and it still breaks my heart anyone could ever be so horrible to my sweet beautiful baby girl. But as she got older she made some good friends and began to be more confident and you’d never know she was bullied early on. It sss sad bc never til the day she started school , did she ever feel bad about herself in the slightest. I watched her suffer bc of wjst those kids did to her and I’m not just talking bout calling names. It’s very painful to think about. But i alwsys tried to encourage her and stand by her no matter what. She’s my world. And she’s so sweet and beautiful and talented and smart and loving. One day she’s going to make a good mommy if she ever has kids ! She’s 18 now snd it’s been the most special 18 years of my life. I hope she knows Alwsys , how special she is and how much I love her. We didn’t have family to lean on or be around . It’s bn just me and her. I always have told her it’s just me and her against the world and nobody can bring us down bc we have each other . Both When i was bullied and when she was bullied , no adults ( besides me for her ) ever stepped in to help. They knew. They contributed in many ways. Now days thjngs I went thru even just with adults wouldn’t be tolerated but I also thought it wouldn’t be tolerated , what she’s been through. I’ve cried many tears for my sweet baby. And I’ve Alwyss looked at it like even those who bullied are some mamas baby and it’s just sad and it’s a learned behavior and society still promotes it and allows it to thrive whether people wanna think it’s a thing of the past or not. So many people get hurt and it truly does damage inside to a person for a lifetime .. no I don’t sit and reflect back on the negative stuff kids did when they didn’t Have the sense to be better and more loving. But in terms of the abuse I endured even in my own home it’s like where do you go ? Where do you turn to ? People who were supposed to help were the main ones causing the hurt. I struggle with that to this day but try my best to heal and be the best me I can. I’m sorry you were bullied , too. No one should ever just be made to feel like they’re morning or be allowed to be the subject of everyone’s vile and mean behavior. Discipline is necessary in life. But there’s a difference between correcting sometning needing to be corrected , out of love for the betterment of that person and those around them and straight up hate and hateful acts. God bless u

I was like Luthy when I was 8 & 9 after my mother died from systemic lupus. I found I could go to the library instead of going outside playground where the bullies. It’s not a bad habit, Luthy is just adapting in her own way as a way to survive as an introverted child full of trauma. Orangutans in the wild do not grow up around so many other orang babies, so some may find joy in playing in the yard without anyone hurting her. She also felt safer around the older orangs enough to steal their food & they didn’t protest

FRANK Da monke no omg. I work with and care for wild cats and there’s bullying among every social animal to an extent. It’s not so much bullying in the sense we’d know, since they were really just trying to obtain food from the weaker of the bunch but animals smell and see weakness in a sense , ready to exploit thet weakness any chance they can get so I guess that’s a trait of bullying every living thing can be affected by

Bullying type behaviors are also triggered by greed, the ability for survival instincts to override social controls is just as important to a species survival as the social controls themselves. In other words, biological imperative places equal importance upon the individual as upon the community.

She reminds me very much of Mangis from Orangutan Island! Mangis had the same exact problem. She was kept as a spoiled pet for a long time, and that resulted in the same issues. An easy target for bullies. In her case tho, there was no place to escape to. She was stuck on an island. So Mangis would climb high up in the trees alone and cry and cry. It was really heart wrenching and pathetic. Lone said she might not be capable of being released because of her not standing up for herself. Ive often wondered what ever happened to her.

I suppose this is obvious but we can observe similar Behavior in humans, in reaction to bullying. I got tired of the bullies of so-called civilization and receded from society when I was 21. Bullies come in many forms. They bully for many reasons. There are so many examples of this in our society that many people just accept it. How civilized. (Eyes rolling)

Aren’t orangutans normally rather solitary and not normally in troops like chimps in the wild? If so Luthi may be demonstrating actually more wild behavior and problem solving. No expert at this but just a thought.

Also not an expert here, but I think even as solitary creatures they need to learn how to behave with other orangutans in case they approach one in a wild, and with shrinking forest it is more possible now then ever... Plus mother orangutan stays with her child for a long time, so that they can learn from her, so in this case, since they are orphans, they need to learn from each other how to forage and stuff

Another non-expert here but just wanted to add that I remember seeing on a documentary (a long time ago) that they are more solitary by necessity than by social instinct. When an area has an abundantly available food source and there is plenty to go around they very much enjoy being in each other’s company. I really wish I could remember what that documentary was though...

Yeah, I don’t think they’re absolutely solitary (they reproduce after all) but in one of my books on orang behavior it seemed to indicate that they weren’t particularly communal. The moms more or less raised the kids by themselves and the males just kind of went absentee. Maybe the abundance of food alters that. Who knows. Their world is changing so maybe they’ll adapt to a commune or troop-like existence. I am definitely not an expert.

not an expert here.. just watch it from other video of orangutan. after certain age / based on skill.. they will be taught to be solitary (there were some reason why they cannot live in a group.. but i forget).. and moved into pre-released island.. before being freed to the deep forest..
