Story: Miku was a little girl who's parent abused her and didn't care much for her. One day while she escaped her family by going to the park a woman came by, she noticed the little girl's injuries and could see the sadness behind her smile. She comforted her and told the girl she could take her somewhere better then stole the girl away. For awhile they lived rather happily together. She gave the girl all her love, taught her many things and cared for her better than her parents ever did. The little girl felt happier and safer with the woman, she wanted to stay with her forever but unfortunately that couldn't be. When they were out and about one day an officer recognized the little girl's face from a missing person's report and arrested the woman. The woman knew what she did was a crime and gladly faced her sentence but before that she told the police everything about the girl, alerting them to the abuse so she wouldnt return to her parents. The little girl watched as the woman was taken away, she cried and wanted her to stay but the woman just smiled calmly at her. Turns out when the woman was a child she too was abused but no one ever saved her so when she saw the girl she wanted to give her a chance to find happiness, the chance she never had.

Actually, in Japanese culture, cutting all the hair off is symbolism of leaving the past behind and starting a new chapter in life. This is what Gumi cut her hair off for to show that, but Miku being a child I'm sure hadn't realized that at the time
@Phailnessable11 жыл бұрын
Not only is the song very heart-wrenching and emotional but it also throws in a truckload of symbolism. In Asian cultures cutting your hair means a new beginning; a fresh start. Gumi cutting her hair was a new life and a fresh start maybe not only for herself but for Miku, too.

+ Shea Horsman - The "lie" that Gumi made was that she can make Miku happy forever and neither of them believed it. They did maintain the illusion of being happy together and kept it even during Gumi's arrest before the whole illusion dissipated into the sad truth. Yet, thanks to what Gumi had done, she still managed to keep her unsaid promise to the younger girl (to protect her from harm and make her happy) and when Gumi and Miku met each other years later, they acted much like good friends or even sisters. Now if it were only possible in real life so that children living with abusive parents would find a piece of heaven before they could give another piece of it to their own children.
@0killerx10 жыл бұрын
ALRIGHT GUYS! DISCUSSION TIME! Q: So we all know child abduction is wrong, very wrong... BUT in the case of this story, would YOU still condemn Gumi for abducting Miku? After all the facts would be presented to me, I would move to give her amnesty from the crime. Don't get me wrong, child abduction is very wrong, but abuse is just as bad, if not worse.
@Krina53110 жыл бұрын
I would argue in this instance it's not really abduction because it was hardly forceful.. But in general I believe abuse is less known or at least belittled compared to some other crimes.
@miloyaboi800110 жыл бұрын
in my opinion gumi did nothing wrong she knew that the child was being abused and with a back story of being abused she thought nobody would help so she took the child into her care and she was ready to face punishment so what she did was completely justified in her morals.
@0killerx10 жыл бұрын
john fedoruk I agree with what you said because she knew what would come to her despite what was happening and took responsibility anyway, so morally what she did was right. It's just unfortunate that she had to do it the way she did. Luckily the way everything turned out was good in the end, so overall I suppose everything was fine.
@gentlejellyfishsky84310 жыл бұрын
I probobly would still hold gumi accountable. She knew it was wrong and she was ready to face punishment. But I would be easy on her, because she was helping miku, even if it was in a wrong way. So I say go to jail for a couple of years and them let her out, which I guess is technically what happened at the end.
@miloyaboi800110 жыл бұрын
I guess I would do the same but I think the minimum jail sentence for kidnapping is like ten years and may vary depending on curtain circumstances but yeah I'm pretty much on your side about this one. I would say only one year considering the situation the little girl was in.

This is a sweet, beautiful song. The music, the lyrics, the arts, all is light and simple, yet their harmonious fit makes the whole video clip very enjoyable. I love the idea and the kindhearted nature of the plot, but that doesn't keep me from wondering: Why didn't the woman report about the abuse to the police instead of abducting the child? Wouldn't it be better for them both? Or is it because she doesn't know any better herself? Is it because she too, at the age of an adult, is still suffering from some sort of abuse, that she has to run away for herself as well to the abandoned house? Is it only a coincidence that she decided to bring the little girl with her in her escape? It is truly wonderfully sad.
@MsFlowerpower999 жыл бұрын
Trang Vương I know this is late, but it's pretty much for recent viewers. I think she abducted her because she wanted the girl to learn and understand "happiness" rather than to just be freed from the abuse and maybe never really understand what she missed out on (Parental love and acceptance).
@ThucNguyen-si2rf9 жыл бұрын
Trang Vương maybe she decided to teach her about happiness because she couldn't stand to see a girl be like that. And the police wouldn't have any clue of how to teach. I guess the woman treats her as her own child?? I don't know. But I guess my answer is something like that.
@linkhyrule58009 жыл бұрын
Trang Vương Long story short: In Japan, it wouldn't have worked. People don't usually get investigated until after the police have more than enough evidence to convict already, because getting investigated, even if you're innocent, can totally ruin your life.

Every single time I listen to the song, I feel something different. Please bear with me, these are pretty vague memories. I remember vaguely when I first found this song that I felt really sad, but just because it was a sad story. This does it mean I didn’t take it seriously. I just wasn’t reacting as strongly as I would later. The second time I revisited this song, I forget why, but I was angry at it. I don’t think I understood what it was about the same way I used to. I will acknowledge though, my parents influence in this. My mom really hated this song, thought it was stupid. I think I just picked up on that. It could’ve also been the same reasons why I didn’t originally like Crier if you know that song. There’s a lot of crying in that song, and I used to be beaten up pretty badly for crying. So when I saw others cry, I would get angry at them because I genuinely thought it was wrong to show emotions. I couldn’t stop doing it though. The third time I revisited the song, was when I was attending high school. It became really hard to listen too. It’s not that it sounded bad, I always thought it sounded good. This is the time when I actually start to relate to the song, rather than just see it as any old story. You may have noticed that I was punished physically for crying. That wasn’t the only thing that my parents did. In high school, I was at least somewhere that what I was experiencing was abuse. But I didn’t want to get the police involved because I was so scared that I would have to move schools. That may not seem like a big deal, but it was. My school was the only place where I even had the possibility to feel happy. If I were to move schools, I wouldn’t have been able to feel happy anymore. At that point, why live? There were other reasons, but that was the one that I think was the main reason. To keep this part short, one of my teachers figured out that I was being abused. When that happened, I could see myself as Miku. The song resonated with me in the most painful spot. Although, I did think it was at least somewhat silly that I was get so emotional over a song, I did try over and over again to listen to the song. But I failed every time. Until today. I’m revisiting the song now, and I’m back to where I started. Even though I believe this could’ve been phrase better, if that was the intent. I figured out the meaning to certain lines, that I wouldn’t have if I have an experience something similar. The biggest example is “the world couldn’t get over their deception and lies“. Before, and even now, I didn’t get it. What Gumi did was child abduction. Yes, she did it for very good reasons, but she still broke the law. There wasn’t any deception or lies in the fact that she committed kidnapping. But, knowing what I do now, I do have an interpretation of what this was meant to say. That line was not about the abduction, it was about the abuse. Miku’s parents made Gumi look worse than what she actually was to save their own skin. But the only thing I can use the back this up, is this a similar stuff happened in my life. Good thing their plan didn’t work though in both the real life story, and this fictional one.
@catst99272 жыл бұрын
Looks like it’s another revisit after seven months. I had this song on my old phone, and I decided to listen to some songs on there. This was one of the songs that were on there. That led me back to this video. Wow, Gumi is what I wish I could be. I wish he had enough self-sacrifice in me to do something like what Gumi did. The line that I was complaining about before about this line (off of memory, likely paraphrased) “the world couldn’t get over there deception and lies”, actually rings true. Yes, it’s phrased harshly, but I seen it. I’ve seen it many of times over. Unfortunately though, to explain where I seen it is to go into politics. So instead let me try to get some old memories of mine up instead. When it came to escaping my own abusive household, the police essentially said it was OK that I was abused. As long as it didn’t kill me. Here’s the thing though, somebody who I knew did you get killed by the abusive household. Of course they didn’t care then. The lying and deception is the fact that they are supposed to be the system that’s full proof and will help everybody. But every single time I hear about it it’s another failure. They genuinely do not want to help kids, so I am now in a position like Gumi where I want to be the person who stops abuse from happening. I didn’t get that opportunity, and unfortunately I probably wouldn’t dirty myself. But the desire is there, because I know that nobody else is willing to help kids like Miku. Like Gumi, I was once Miku too. Obviously, this is reading between the lines. I doubt that they were actually intending this. I just see new things every single time I come back. I think if my mom didn’t discourage me, this would be a fairytale that I kept with me. There are some songs that touch me in a place where I didn’t expect. For example, My R (Rachie English Ver.) was the first time somebody didn’t just say they related to me. I actually got to see myself represented. It’s why I care about that song so much, because it’s the only song that actually gets what it’s like to want to commit sv!

It took two attempts to escape (I was sent to my neighbor's house the first attempt because that's the closest I would stay, then snuck away a week later when my neighbor couldn't keep me and they tried to send me back with my parents.), but I am free now. I am working on starting a KZbin channel soon. Hopefully, I will be able to help other people going through hard times. ;) ______________________________________________________________________ Gumi in this story is basically a personified version of my life and dreams. Well...minus the child abduction and going to jail. "When she was around the girl's age, she too was treated ill by her parents. No adult ever came to her aid. So when she met the girl, she wanted to help her in any way she could." (Though for me, it was not due to something physical, but emotional, and started a few years later than in comparison to how old Miku looks in this video.) That is my life and dream. But no abducting or arrest, because that's years spent unable to help others.

I remember listening to this when I was in a horrible situation for such a long time, it hit so deeply to me and was so beautiful to me. That longing to be rescued and that pain almost feeling it reflected in this. It almost gave me a bittersweet feeling, one of the hopelessness and longing to be saved, and one of the hope and light at the end that I could get out, I love this song for these reasons so very much. It may have taken me over a decade, but little bits of hope from things like this and little bits of luck keeping me alive when by all rights I shouldn't have been in so many situations, I managed to finally escape and start my own life without fear. This certainly does hold a special place in my heart. I'm so glad to have heard it back then, so very glad. ^-^

Yeah, this is sad and all, but I have to wonder why Gumi didn't report to the authorities in the first place before deciding to kidnap Miku.
@SerenityM1611 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure what Japanese laws are, but it may be different from they have to question every report which unfortunately gives time to try and cover up abuse unless they're really unannounced.
@SkimMilkMustDie11 жыл бұрын
From what I've heard, child abuse is seen as more of a "personal issue" in Japan than in many Western countries, making it harder to report and deal with (I'm not Japanese so please correct me if I'm wrong). Gumi probably kidnapped the girl on a whim, not knowing what else to do.
@Konistic11 жыл бұрын
Or maybe she kidnapped her because Gumi was also neglected as a child just like Miku, and had some sort of feeling that she wanted to help her. There was a slight connection. If you were being bullied, and someone else was being bullied, you'd feel a connection... no? I'm just stating from what's in the song. She also sings that no one helped her when she was young. I guess that's why she didn't contact the authorities. Because she thought that- well... I guess... since she didn't experience her being contacted to the authorities, just the feeling of wanting to be happy. Just a theory, though. ^-^

Jerry Bi Another possibility is Miku's age. Judging from here outfit and what she looks like, I'd say she's around seven or eight. The thing with abuse is, even if you report it, as far as I know, you'd get put in an environment the government deems 'safe'. There's no guarantee Miku will be happy, since the only thing she's known from her parents is abuse, and so she'd feel nervous around the family she's put in. Since she'd be cut off from them, it would be hard for them to connect. On the other hand, Gumi, who she knows at least a little bit, is already there. She has already established that Gumi is 'kind', and that would override her fear of adults. Another thing is because being transfered would cause lots of commotion and it would probably be somewhat scary for Miku. What Gumi probably sought, was giving Miku a little bit of happiness she could hold onto so she can better face a new atmosphere. ...Or something. Since I'm not familiar with this sort of thing, I may be wrong.

Forgive me if I posted a similar comment on this video before, I can't remember if I did, but as an adult survivor of abuse this song really speaks to me. If I were Gumi, I would probably take the girl away and then tell the police about what was going on so I wouldn't get arrested. I don't know if that would work, but I hope it would. Then I would do everything in my power to ensure Miku a happy and safe childhood. Worst case scenario, I might be willing to kidnap her to prevent her from being abused further.

I believe the story is about a little girl who does not know happiness...even her parents treat her in a bad way.And then she goes to the park,and this other woman see's her and pities her.She knew she'll get arrested for it,so she abducted/kidnapped Miku.What matters to her is that she'll be happy at least. And then when she gets arrested,she's still happy since she knows the little girl already knew and felt happiness. Not sure.But meh >w>

I know a lot of Vocaloid fans are young so I just want to put it out there: if you identify with Miku then I stress you to PLEASE, PLEASE call CPS (Child protective services) if you are getting physically abused. Sadly, emotional and verbal abuse, although it's just as toxic, isn't as likely to land your tormentor in jail. If you have someone else call for you and they show up and you don't tell the truth you won't get help and even worse, your parents may punish you for it. If it's emotional or verbal abuse then please try to push through it. You are stronger than you will ever know or believe. Your parent/guardian is full of shit and you have so much to give to the world. Push your way to that 18th birthday (or your nations age of consent) and get out. I'm not saying it's easy. I lived an easy childhood. I have a loving family. But my best friend suffered until we took her in at 18 and she's in the Navy now, doing so much more than she believed she ever could. If you think no one cares, you are wrong. I care. Even if all I can give is words of consolation, I care so, so much. I don't believe in a higher power but you have so much to give. Don't throw it all away. (And as a last piece of advice: you should never count your worth on someone else. You are worthy because you are you. I'm still learning that myself as someone that struggles with depression.)
