I've never been to St. Louis, but I really enjoy learning about its history. Nathan does a wonderful job narrating these videos. He's got a charming way about him, and he's well informed. Well done.

I can't thank you enough for your video and the knowledge you bring to touring the neighborhood. I live in Tennessee but have traveled to St. Louis eight times in the past six years because I love the architecture, the neighborhoods, and the feeling for the past that I have when visiting there. Next time my friends question me about why I love St. Louis so much I will show them this video.

I watched your video of Kaleb and Kim’s house (The second Empire Strikes Back) as I’ve been following them for a while. I found your video very good and I’ll be watching the others. I’m watching from the south coast of England and am very interested in social history and house renovation.

I loved this as a person who lives in a neighboring community. Where is the oldest firehouse located?
@ThisHouse3 жыл бұрын
Great question! This is the oldest official Firehouse Building in St. Louis. Before, and during the Civil War, Firemen were volunteers who lived in the various neighborhoods (only 3 wards at that time) and would keep their buckets at their houses. When alarms would ring, the volunteers reported to their houses to grab their buckets and race to the fire. The most trusted of the volunteers had housed hand engines at their homes, there were 9 of these in total. It wasn't until after the Civil War that the city built it's first official firehouse (the one in this video).

@@ThisHouse You may want to at least a few times; everything on the menu is awesome! Just be aware that if you go during lunch, there’s usually a line halfway down the block, but it moves fairly quickly.

Why were the homes built so close to each other yet not attached? The homes would have been very dark given there aren’t any windows on the sides. They are so beautiful.
@ThisHouse3 жыл бұрын
That was mostly due to fire-code. Some of the houses feature windows in the alley ways that allow for a nice cross breeze to pass through the house on a hot day.
