No offerings from Gateway? that’s really where the computing power to surpass a MacBook lies, a gateway laptop running Windows 2000. Doesn’t run off of battery power, it has to be plugged into the wall.

The secrets to beat MacBook is to meet one of the following: 1. Try to be as close to a MacBook as possible; 2. Ready for gaming; 3. Weird form factor.

The forklift to carry around a laptop argument is real. I had an Alienware m18 when I was in college and this thing was so big and heavy it came with a backpack twice as wide as I am. I looked like a tech turtle

Mackbooks we’re good in the 2000s-2013 then, Yosemite came and brought the new design which I hated. Big Sur came in 2020 and did boost it from mediocre to okay. Early MacBooks are the best though, not as good as Windows XP, Vista, and 7.

0:55 I actually had this laptop (or at least, the almost identitcal non-Pro variant). I contributed to its IndieGogo campaign in 2019, because it's not like I could afford anything better on a library clerk salary. Though the whole time I had it, I saved up to buy a MacBook Air the following year, especially when this began to literally disintegrate. I ended up giving it to my parents, because heavens knows I couldn't sell it in good conscience.

netbooks were awesome if your job had you troubleshooting radio antennas on top of very tall buildings and grain elevators (think internet via grain towers in rural areas).. because if it was dropped or knocked off the tower the loss of 200 vs 1200 dollars+ was doable back in 2008. Friend of mine flashed the os installed some tools and a memory card and used one till the mobo failed. he still sings that machines praises because it was cheap, light and fit into a small backpack with his other physical tools.

I again find myself wishing for more videos in the "This Is" series of videos, where they introduced a certain piece of technology then talked and explained about it for a few minutes that the video was short - usually between 4 to 8 minutes long per video.

I actually bought a Chuwi tablet. It has a decent screen and was less expensive than similar 10 inch tablets at the time. For what I wanted to use it for, it was fine. No productivity, I just wanted to be able to watch movies/tv shows and to use it as an e-reader. The problem with it was the battery and/or the charging port connection. It took an astonishingly long time to charge and then had terrible battery life. And could not run while plugged in. Returning it would have cost more to ship that it cost me to replace it with the Fire tablet I got for the same use. If it had not had the battery/power issues, I'd have been quite pleased with it.

Well Lenovo also had the dual screen option, with main regular and the other eInk typically delegated to virtual keyboard duties... Now that was a good multiscreen laptop... The X1 Fold on the other hand was still offered by default with a BT membrane-keyboard that covered one half of the screen/one folded side, and I don't remeber it having some virtual keyboard solution in the same way that dual-screen eInk model before it had. After all, on the eInk variant you could in theory programmatically devise a different keyset ot different keyboard locale on the fly, eg. to switch to some other language, or even remove non-usable "keys" to better optimise space for specific app purposes (aka possibility of multiple macro keys).

Two Words - Microsoft Surface Only Surface has the build quality and hardware finesse to be neck to neck (and even surpass) Apple's design. Windows 11 closing the gap is a nice move too. The only thing holding back is the power-performance ratio from the x86 architecture. Can't compete with ARM based Macs as of yet.
