Two young prospects were possibly saved by this) BWF - Lax to no standardization of medic (and medical kit) requirements, no protocol for umps in case of emergencies, and worrying amount of mishaps in past World Tour events: Medics did not have tape for Tunjung, Beiwen had to give hers (Kumamoto 2023). Johannesen knee injury, Shi Yuqi had to be the one calling for the doctor (Singapore). Jonathan Christie falling off the wheelchair (France 2022). Adinata's knee injury, but had to bend knee for transport because they had no stretcher (Malaysia Masters 2023) BAC/PBSI - medical team is totally unprepared (no immediate CPR???), no AED, designated hospital too far away. ----- All of them, every single one of them, had a hand. They all have to sit down and realize what went wrong. Rewrite regulations. Make sure this is the last one.

The blame game starts. BWF would say the rules are for operational purpose and not cast in stone. The on-site medical team (including doctor), if experience and well equipped, can override the tournament Referee and proceed immediately to attend to the player. How much of the rules will change would affect all organizers and if it sways too much to one side, more will not want to be the organizer. In any tournament, regardless of sports, all athletes participate at their own risk. That is the dark side of all sports. With that said, we acknowledge the risks involved and pray that the venue/organizer does understand and provide "sufficient" medical assistance in time of need.

Hello, the opponent was also young boy like him. What help could he have given? He would already be traumatised from this event.

@@csking6377 A reaction, go to him and see if he is ok? Im not suggesting he perform CPR, but he could've at least went by his side, would've realised it was urgent and got medical straight away

@@Dude-etiquette Of all persons in the immediate vicinity of that court - so many referees, umpires, medical personnel ... all adults and trained professionals - you pick on a kid? And expected him to get medical help? A reaction? His reaction was shock and confusion. Is that normal enough? That was a space of 40 seconds and you are likening it to people driving by after a car crash. I'm not sure you have any logic grey matter.

@@csking6377 I'm picking on everyone involved. But I accept your point about the 17 year old. The umps, coaches etcs were a lot worse

Does anyone have a clearer and longer video of the event? From what I can see from available footage, it was obvious that none of those people performed the basic assessment of ABC: airway, breathing, circulation. No one opened his airway. Was he breathing? As I don't see anyone giving him artificial breathing, he might still be breathing. But, when someone collapses, shouldn't you at least hook up oxygen even if he's still breathing? No one reached out to feel his carotid pulse. Was there pulse in the first place? Where's the AED? Is it not a requirement to have AEDs available on-site in such international tournament? They just squatted around him waiting for stretcher to arrive. Then they dumped him onto the stretcher and brought him to hospital, without protecting his airway! There is a reason why in ABC of cardiopulmonary resuscitation, A comes before B and C. If he was unconscious, why did they let him lie face up like that, without opening his airway? Allowing his tongue to fall back and occlude his airway? Allowing him to choke on his own saliva and vomitus? Why the rush to transfer him to a hospital before his condition is stabilized? The golden rule in CPR is to NEVER transfer any unconscious patient, until after you have stabilized him.
he have 5 to 10 minute to save and a live..how dare people around just look for 4 minute? OMG...

i think one of the cause is immense training of their player. this is the first time happen. they not prepare for this medic only can give first aid only but for this heart attack not enough trained. rip..

One important factor for the sport men to note is that they should be well hydrated at ALL TIMES especially at games where their bodies are dehydrated from aggressive sports. A dehydrated body will cause the blood viscosity of a person to be high and thus may cause problems of cardiac arrest.

in an emergency situation, every second matters. 40 secs were enough for line judges, service judge, and umpire to start checking for pulse, breathing and if required, initiating CPR...instead of waiting for the medics.

Nobody. nobody is responsible . The medic were fast enough. And nothing else could have been done to save him.

Always blame others who took 40 seconds, 5 minutes, 3 hours, expertise, what hell they can blame on. The real question should be how come nobody know his condition for 17 years and come to represent his country with some medical condition that lead to his death?

To the indonesians backing up their medic, come on. This has happened in other sports, case in point Danish footballer Eriksen. Dude collapsed because of a cardiac arrest. Look at how fast the medics approached the issue and their reactions to it. Then look at this one and compare. The medic in that competition was from the host country. It is the responsibility of the host country to provided medical aid and be ready to react when accidents happen. Secondly, those that pointed out to the lack of medical check-ups on the player before the tournament. Did you see the medical team in Eriksen’s case blame him and the Danish national team for not doing medical check-ups? No. Cardiac arrests happens to even the healthiest humans. Our reaction to it is what will save lives. Stop supporting something that is clearly wrong. Accept that the organisers did wrong. And of course change the ruling.

You want some updates: 1 month after his death, the body is still in Indonesia. Chinese officials and his family have not given any instructions on what to do with the body in Indonesia. Very suspicious in my opinion.
