Wonderful discussion, I usually bring my hand back for rest stroke, but I'll experiment with keeping the same hand position. P.S. If you ever did an online masterclass with a Q&A, student performances and discussions, etc I would gladly pay for that opportunity. Brandon Acker does something similar to this.

Ya, or just reduce the amount of movement. I've been dreaming up ways to do masterclasses and interact with students online, main issue is time constraints since I'm so busy just trying to put out weekly content. But I'll dream up something!

Bradford, I always walk away from your KZbin presentations enlightened and knowledgeable. For some time I have been a supporter of yours in one form or another, and will continue to be one. My question is this. At the bottom of your presentation page you give a special thanks to a list of long time supporters... My question is this. Is the one supporter John McGlaughlin, that you thank, "The" John McGlaughlin of "Mahavishnu Orchestra" fame? If so, it's nice to see that a musician of his calibre is also a supporter of your presentations. My friend and I were big fans of his Jazz Fusion style back in the 70s.

Ha, I don't know John but I doubt it's him. I do have a few celebrities following the site who have introduced themselves though. Funny though because I worshiped John McLaughlin in my late teens, I even went to jazz college for a year in Vancouver because of my obsession.

Yes and no, I think it would really depend on the technique level and playing style of the person.

again thanks for the great class from Q/A. Rest strokes or free strokes. or both I think there is room for both. I do both and working on both of them. Thanks for the info on nails as well. My m, finger got smacked pretty good by a Belt on a machine and now I have this crack running down one side. When they start getting long enough to use it will crack at the nail after playing then I have to file it and start again is there a good nail builder you can recommend?

How does one play rest and free style together (free thumb and rest on A finger)?

Very informative as usable…however, sometimes I have a slight buzz before I pluck the string, on close inspection I see it’s the skin touching the string before the nail strikes. Does anybody else have the same issue.

I’m looking to get a 53mm nut width..any perks of doing this. Mine is currently 52. Would there be much of a difference?

Not a ton across the strings but why are you looking to widen it?

@@Thisisclassicalguitar I have big wide winger tips. My dads conde guitar is 53mm with 44m string spacing and it’s such a pleasure to play. Also doing the alzapua technique on that guitar is a breeze compared to other models, i like the wide string space Bc it also reminds me of my oud spacing. So yeah I was wondering if classical players do this
