@wingnut71Ай бұрын
@the_local_bigamist There was no city before the settlers built it. The locality was known as Daire, (oak grove), we all know that. The CITY is Londonderry because it was LONDON that paid for it to be built. 95% of the Catholics that live there are all blow-ins from Donegal FFS.

To be honest we don't really know what to do with 'em either. I know Scotland has minor issues of this kind but sectarianism has been totally absent in England for so long that it's alien to us. When I was a child in the 70s Protestants and Catholics married all the time and it wasn't commented upon. Northern Ireland has been a cross to bear and the Republic is welcome to it if they like the idea of everything that comes along with it. I'm just glad no kids and mothers are being blown up either side of the Irish Sea anymore. Long may the peace and democratic transition gather pace.

ENGLAND CONTINUES ITS GRIP ON CONQURED PEOPLES IN ITS "EMPIRE" FREE SCOTLAND
@Azog1502 ай бұрын
I know there is little point in replying to this, but Scotland was a key part of the Empire. 3/4s of Northern Irish Protestants trace their heritage to Scottish colonial settlers, not English (and a large number of them were from before Scotland even joined the United Kingdom). By the time of the abolition of slavery in the British Empire, a full 1/4 of British Empire slaves were owned by Scots (despite Scots forming only 1/10 of the population). Scotland wasn't just a coloniser, it was a prolific coloniser. It joined the Union voluntarily to cash in on the rewards of Empre, after bankrupting itself during its own failed colonial experiment in Panama.

@@Azog150 we never wanted to be part of your "empire" we were betrayed by our leaders and sold out to the English... Irish settlers have nothing to do with it, your just dragging in whatever nonsense about the Irish and the confederation... even dragging in that Scots "owned slaves" NONE OF IT HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE MODERN ISSUE OF independence, REFERENDUMS FOR independence ARE NOW BLOCKED BY ENGLISH LAW, BECAUSE YOU KNOW THAT WE WILL BE FREE, WHETHER YOU WANT US TO BE OR NOT.... so much for your lie-filled rant
