The thing that makes me most happy with service dogs is that they actually enjoy and want to be training and working. These pups are never forced into this, and when they retire they actually become very sad. Sometimes I think service dogs are treated better than some family dogs.
@obiwankenobi38026 жыл бұрын
I agree! I have a dog with my family and we take her out for walks almost everyday, sometimes even twice a day. I agree that service dogs are sometimes treated better than family dogs because some families don't know how to raise a dog, so the dogs and up getting mistreated or hardly fed. But that's not with all families tho. Growing up, I had 8 Dogs, some were old, some were pups, but I loved them all equally. They were all from an animal shelter. One dog I had, named Ruben, came from owners who chained him to a small chain around his neck all day and all night. He was chained with another dog who always tried to attack ruben. They never fed any of them, but the animal rescue ended up finding both of them. Ruben went with me, and the other dog was suffering really bad wounds and they think he was rabid. Good thing he didn't bite Ruben!!

How are you going to say they aren’t forced into it 😂 They’re literally forced into it as a puppy
@melindamercier68116 жыл бұрын
Cee Vee All dogs have a job to do and love to work. These dogs just have a very specific job. Just because the average dog owner doesn’t allow the dog reach their full potential doesn’t mean these dogs were forced into anything. They get to choose to continue on with this work or just be a very well behaved, well socialized part of a family. All dogs should have this kind of structure in their lives. It’s no wonder so many people have behavioral issues with their dogs.

Since the trainers take them out, they have to wear those for proper training. Hey there. GDF, the organization that trains these pups, only uses standard poodles, no doodles. Guide dog schools have tried to use doodles in the past, but a lot of the time they end up shedding, and their temperaments are not as predictable as a purebred poodle. :) So they stick with the standards.

They do alot more then just those three things! Guide dogs are in a category of dogs called assistance dogs (or service dogs). There are so many kinds of assistance dogs, some help veterans with PTSD from war and others help children with autism! It would take forever to list all the jobs these animals do (search and rescue, hunting, babysitting, the list goes on)!

I’ve had a service dog for almost 8 years now, she is amazing and I wouldn’t trade her for the world. She helps me every day and I must say how upsetting it is to even think about her retiring and passing away. She’s almost at that age in my country where dogs retire and I unfortunately won’t be able to keep her nor do I have people I can rehome to that I personally know. She is a part of me. I’m saying this because, if you’re looking into adopting a dog etc, please even if it’s just for a second think of becoming someone who will rehome a service dog. It can be hard and I know people love puppies, I also know people love rescuing but I don’t see much on that side with service/guide/assistance dogs etc etc. It literally is so rewarding. I’ve had a previous dog, I dint have for very long due to my condition before I was placed with my lovelie now, but he was quite old and was rehome quickly. I was so happy when he was rehome to be told that I could visit him, I visited him once a month since I lived 4 hours away, and the lovely people even allowed me to be there and hold him when he was put down due to cancer. It’s HONESTLY one of the most kind hearted things you can do, I was so grateful for such wonderful people and they still amaze me today, continuing the rehome process. Some are placed into actually facilities but you can find them anywhere. It’s wonderful to see when I see even one person even mentioning wanting to go into either becoming a trainer or wanting to rehome even wanting to know more about these wonderful creatures in general.

@Tobby ._. They can actually, but more so as ESA than SA. They can alert their owners to certain changes in levels of whatever is affecting their owners, it's just by law they can't be placed on planes due to allergies of others and seen as untrainable, so trying to get a service cat won't be possible unless you are homebound.
@Jojo-qg8vv5 жыл бұрын
@*Gasp yes that is what I said exactly, yes some states, though they still wont be fully protected under law they may be allowed to train as service animal and be seen as one they aren't fully allowed in certain settings. Though some states fully allow and protect them, the lines may still be blurred. ADA does not fully classify them as service animals in the term, only dogs, so most federal laws only classifies dogs aswell and protect them.
