Tu Lam, a former Special Forces soldier, rates the fighting techniques Keanu Reeves uses in the "John Wick" movies. He talks about judo and jujitsu, sniper techniques, and the ways public missions are handled in "John Wick," with Alfie Allen, Willem Dafoe, and John Leguizamo. He explains how suppressors work, the best ways to handle a knife, and how to turn anything in a room into a weapon, as seen in "John Wick: Chapter 2," with Common, Ruby Rose, and Laurence Fishburne. He compares his own experiences with urban shootouts, working with military dogs, and fighting on a motorcycle to "John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum," with Halle Berry, Ian McShane, and Anjelica Huston. Finally, he breaks down defensive driving, clearing a room, and fighting on stairs in "John Wick: Chapter 4," with Bill Skarsgård and Donnie Yen.

Just the fact he uses a two handed grip on his pistol and has to stop to reload makes The John Wick films more realistic than 90% of action movies.

And there were very few moments of "after this the fight should have been over". Just the fact that you don't have two guys going at either each other for 10 minutes straight is such a needed change in movies. Still great he did not go out of his way and kept rating it from a professional point of view and not relative to other movies.

Agreed. John Wick really nailed the realism of gun handling. Tactically, not so much but it's a movie so they need to make it look cool lol. It's actually created a small wave of newer action movies taking reloading into account along with ADS'ing instead of ridiculous hip firing. A very welcome change thanks to JW.

@@Tango8787 The one old action movie trope they kind of have to stick with is henchmen coming in one or two at a time. If you were a group of bad guys and you're up against John Wick, just open up on him from 10 different positions an there's nothing he can do. They conveniently keep the henchmen he needs to deal with at a slow trickle.

Grew up in a rough neighborhood, been a paramedic, worked as a bouncer, and worked some executive protection. I've seen a dude killed with a pencil. Well, saw afterward when our ambulance picked him up. He had 15-20 puncture wounds. 5-7 of those in the neck. Don't know exactly, that would be the purview of the ME. But, it does happen and a pencil cab been a weapon.

When I was doing my training in the British Army we did hand to hand combat training with white T shirts on and marker pens. No matter how strong you were, no matter how quick you were, no matter how well you mastered the techniques, everyone was covered in marker pen. These pens represented knives. The exercise was to point of the sheer futility in entering into a knife fight, and that it should only ever be a final resort, both parties will end up with fatal wounds. If someone comes at you with a knife, don’t for one second thing technique will save you, real life isn’t the movies. The only way to give yourself the best chance of survival is to get away, fast. If you’re being robbed, give them what they want.

To have a movie scene validated by an actually experienced Soldier well trained in all aspects, it really shows the beauty and effort taken by the film to achieve realism which cannot be done in cinema, but to bring out and tap into the maximum potential possible to bring realistic combat in a film is a realm untouched by many other films, so John Wick series stand clear

Yes, anybody who served and trained in MOUT operations can tear it down, but what I really enjoy is not so much the fact of how flashy the scene is, the whole franchise worked with some of the best stuntman from multiple parts of the world and you can see the effort an love they put, not only in the combat scenes, but in the movie as a whole. It's a "Gun-Fu" quadrilogy, and they stepped up the intensity on every movie. I give mad props to Keanu for being humble and learning how to manipulate different weapons, be it firearms, knifes, etc, truly learning martial arts techniques, and the whole stuntmen department; they had incredible ones and extremely seasoned, experienced and talented ones. Edit: Tear down some scenes and think how many takes it should have taken, making sure it looked semi-realistic but great on camera, while also trying their best to prevent injuries all across the board. For those who practice martial arts, when we do sparring with someone. We don't wanna hurt anybody in training, which means the moves are not "complete", but for obvious reasons. I've been doing martial arts for quite some time now, and the worst injury I've had are dislocated fingers, 1 sprained ankle and a knee to the testicles, which was a complete accident! Quite literally, they were in the wrong place at the wrong time. But nothing that has been disabling to the point of lowering my performance over time.

Number 5 is coming john wick isnt dead. They waited to see how part 4 did in the theaters before deciding to do part 5. How if john is dead? Because john isnt dead. They faked his death. He knew the only way this would end, would be for the world to think john wick is dead. They hint at part 5 at the end of part 4, when they are having a funeral service for john. They ask where do you think he is? Then the next moment the dog turns its head and looks right at someone. but its off screen. This was a similar ending to john wick 3, where they threw john off the roof, and the dog knew how to find him. The dog would of done the same thing, but he was on a leash, so he couldnt go to his master. John wick is alive. Sicne they green lit it and its been annouced, and is coming in a few years after keanue does a few new projects. John wick would never die in a duel. In fact, he purposely lost, so he could fake his own death. At least thats how it seems to me. unless john wick 5 is a prequel. But I doubt it, the dog knew john was alive. PRobably attending his own funeral. They just made that ending in case part 4 didnt do well. But it was one of the biggest hits of last year. So John wick 5 is coming.

The whole thing with John Wick movies is yes, he uses solid techniques with unconventional stuff, but in the end, it started as a revenge movie. John Wick, as a character, never approached any of the kills 100% tactically. He had a vendetta. So, yes, there would be some areas he fell short on. I think that's what made the series so good.

I'm not questioning this man training and experience...I to served in the US ARMY as a combat Engineer ( Combat Support)and Mr. Lam is talking a lot of team movement support and cover. I may be wrong but it seems like what is being missed is that John Wick is a loner, a sole fighter...he's one of those characters that prefers to basically work alone. It shows in everything he does to include his life...He's a loner.

Around the 6:00 mark, I'd love see a video with one of these experts that really breaks down the difference between sniping and simple long-range marksmanship. When I was in the Army, I scored as a Sharpshooter in basic marksmanship (mid-grade), which means I could hit a target at 300m with iron sights. I would never refer to that sort of shooting as sniping. In the scene in question, John Wisk wasn't sniping, he was just shooting long range, and he had a scope. Bracing the rifle with the bipod would have been more stable, but for the shots he was taking, I don't know if a full-on sniper set-up would be needed. It's not a lot different than a lot of people do while deer hunting and firing off the shoulder. But......I'm not an expert. Which is why I said a video talking about the difference would probably help dispel some of that "Hollywood" confusion for audiences.

@@zahidshabir4038The body armour was only the suit jacket, the shirt underneath that Wick was shot through was not bulletproof at all. this is why Wick pulls his jacket over himself when he is shot at, not just to protect his head, but his body as well because the shirt is just a shirt.
@HadrienLBB
@HadrienLBB 10 күн бұрын
@@ch4z_bucks sorry but that's inaccurate. The shirts are also bullet proof. The reason you see John pulling his jacket over is because it adds another layer (probably thicker) of protection and also means the impact wouldn't be directly against his body. FYI, if you are interested there is this KZbinr that spent basically a year building a John Wick bullet proof suit. Worked pretty well, although clearly in the movie it's implied the performance of the armor surpass reality.
@ch4z_bucks
@ch4z_bucks 10 күн бұрын
@@HadrienLBB the shirt is not bulletproof. Going back to John wick 2 when he is given the suit, the tailor says that the armour is sewn in between the fabric and the lining, shirts do not have linings, jackets and trousers do, that is hint 1 that the shirt itself is not bulletproof, just the trousers and jacket. Next is the point they make about the armour being completely bullet proof meaning that pulling the jacket over the shirt wouldn't offer any additional protection, if the shirt was indeed armoured, but we know it isn't because if the shirt was armoured like the jacket and trousers then it wouldn't have been penetrated by the pistol like it was, John takes close range shots and from larger calibres to the jacket and they don't penetrate, he takes a shot to the shirt and it goes through no problem, clearly it is not armoured in any way. You'll probably bring up the knife fight scene and say his suit can't be completely bulletproof because a knife penetrates his suit trousers. The reality is that bulletproof does not equal knife proof, real Kevlar body armour is itself pretty poor against knives unless layered because tackling knives is a different beast to stopping a bullet. I have seen the video of hacksmith I believe it was, recreating the bulletproof suit, it is a fun video but does not itself prove that Wick's shirt was bulletproof when the movie shows very clearly that it is not, at the very least not to the same degree as the jacket and trousers which were definitely the only elements of the suit to have the special "completely bulletproof" armour layers. The shirt was most likely based on what we see in the film, just a shirt.

Every threat incident may be unique but there are certain more conservative stances, expectations of contact that I liked how he explained them just conversationally. His discuss on why the knife grip/stance in a more closed space is a perfect example, plus others discussing Wick exposing his back area with an uncleared room, or proper offensive, defensive shooting angles. I'm an excellent shot with rifle or pistol, but an enemy that know's how to stay hidden, covered and stay patient, may undo any advantage I have. Keep learning everyone!

John Wick (the character) is alone and have to take everything into consideration whilst fighting a bunch of other assassins who does not care about the rules. These "bad guys" are not Special Forces or anything like that.. They're assassins with one goal, unlive John Wick.. For example, where the girl pulls the girl out of the violin, she does not care whether the Army or Special Forces wont pull out a gun in public because she is simply not one of them (i hope you get what I'm saying) Also, "john Wick" is only human, we cant do everything perfect all the time.. just my 2 cents on his analysis
