*WHY do they HATE volume, though??* This clip has very low volume vs normal KZbin videos.. Which is terrible for people watching on phones. It might be fine for SOME people watching on computers with headphones, or people watching on TVs where they have 2 separate volume controls.. but even for some of those people it's terrible as well. *PLEASE JUST TURN THE VOLUME GAIN UP WHEN EDITING/"POST-PRODUCING" THE VIDEO, PLEASE* This video has extremely terrible volume gain vs average KZbin videos. *The only way that's a benefit to anyone is if the intention of the producers of this video WANT people to FALL ASLEEP OR STAY ASLEEP while this video is running.*

@anidiotmakesthings He cuts up his seminars into short form content because that's what the audience on KZbin demands, more people watch short form content than long form content in this modern era, if you want more long form content from Les watch the entirety of Surviroman, beyond Survival and other programs he has on his channel. One of my favorite things on Survivorman was when he showed how he filmed by himself. Like a shot of him dramatically walking away from the camera. You see him leave the shot, which is where the scene would cut for the show. But on his BTS, you see him have to come back and collect the camera. He's not only surviving, he's doing extra work for the show.

I started learning about aviation because of a emergency landing. Windshield spider webbed. Pilots should have a full shield motorcycle helmet in there just incase it ever happens. To be fair to Dune and to Les (who is awesome btw) Dune is a planet with basically *zero* water, so in the deep desert there really isn't any of those animals to worry about in the caves (except for the occasional desert adapted mouse) and the clothing they wear is specifically adapted to collect and process all of their bodily functions and turn it into potable water. So it's really unfair to Les(which he notes!) to sort of grade such a film.
@maybeyourbaby6486
@maybeyourbaby6486 Жыл бұрын
Eh, I think he gets it - I got the feeling that he was really just using it as a jumping off point to talk about the cave survival in general. Even though it's set on a fictional planet, Frank Herbert was very clearly inspired by irl groups like the Bedouin tribes, and because of that Dune kind of becomes a medium of (indirect) learning about how real life desert-dwelling cultures have adapted to the climate. We know that some of it is very close to reality, and I think it's worth pointing out where reality is different, and what the irl situations Dune draws on look like. He did give it a low score but also said it was hard to give it a rating since it depends so much on fictional tech and climate, so I don't think we need to take it very seriously :P Maybe he could've been more clear in the phrasing, but I really feel like Insider is being very heavy-handed in the editing room to condense these as much as possible, so maybe he DID and it was just left out of the video.
@maybeyourbaby6486
@maybeyourbaby6486 Жыл бұрын
I WOULD have appreciated some commentary on what in Dune is applicable to real life - stuff like sleeping during the day and travelling during the night feels obvious, but you also have stuff like burying your stilltent under sand and trying to reduce water loss from sweating etc. He already talked about why drinking your own piss isn't A Thing, but I feel like the Fremen/stillsuit approach would be to put it and sweaty clothes in your solar still?
