Mexico is a full blown narco state. It has infiltrated the whole country. Without drugs the economy would collapse in my opinion. From the president down to local mayors they're all connected to one cartel or another. Why do you think during COVID the president of Mexico went and met with Chapo mother. He went to her, shows who's got the influence in the country. When Mexico wants to charge Chapo son with treason for turning over El Mayo that should tell you everything. Why would the change someone with treason for turning over the most wanted drug trafficking leader in the world? Because he pays their bills, and was the real power in that country. He was wanted by America and really he was the most wanted and unwanted man in Mexico who traveled freely and did whatever he wanted. That should show everyone it's corrupted from the top down. Just think about how you even start to fix that problem when almost the whole country is involved or the money touches everyone some way or another. They invest in business, farms, and everything is basically financed by cartels. Where would you even start? It's a very tough question to answer and way above my pay grade.

Mostly because this guest omits what he doesn’t want to report…like Trump having the laws in place that made the southern border very secure & biden removing them via executive order, without congressional approval…and now 20,000,000, unvetted foreigners have entered the country (20x the amount)…and it’s already creating problems.

I’m sure it’s just because he was wrong about bitcoin. The number of times I thought Zeihan was out to lunch and then realized he was onto something months later is pretty astonishing. However, he does tend to confidently make statements even when he doesn’t seem to have all the background info too. If you make a compilation of all the times he was wrong, he’d look like an idiot. And a compilation of all the times he’s been right would make him look like a luminary. He’s in the prediction business. Bound to look like all things to all men depending on who’s watching when. Oh yeah, also, APT’s like Russia have a vested interest in bot spamming people who broadly represent American interests.

Zeihan has a lot of data driven opinions, but that's all they are- opinions. Data can be picked and manipulated and frequently presented as fact. That's why it's best to have multiple sources of qualified opinion to form a balanced and realistic opinion of our own. Zeihan is a welcome source of current geopolitics for me.

Both myself and my partner are Canadian citizens with medical degrees that we got in Canada from world renowned educational institutions. Our degrees are wildly recognized as some of the best in the world. They’re also in fields that the US is desperately short in. I was curious about moving to the states as our fields are incredibly in demand and the money is better, the process of obtaining a visa and getting our credentials there have made that a no go. I will never understand why the US is actively making it harder for qualified professionals to immigrate.

The issue is more so that American companies don't want to sponsor for the work visa, so they prefer to hire people that are already here. Basically, find an American company to sponsor you and you just found your in. You will not have open access to our job market though, that's reserved for permanent residents and citizens.

Man, this comment section exemplifies the fact that people will hear what they want to hear. Politics have brainwashed Americans to the point that we can’t agree with anything, we can’t criticize our own “side”, and we relentlessly criticize any idea that comes from the opposing political side. So much so that we take centered, data based information and spin it to one political side depending on what we want the narrative to be. Only people winning in America now are the ultra rich and politicians, and we are oblivious to it. Just how they like it.

I like Peter Zeihan and I think he's kind of a perfect embodiment of the irony of foreign policy analysts: They're very good at being able to pinpoint accurately what America's problems are on a technical and global level, unfortunately that also handicaps them from understanding American cultural trends and thus the way the public is likely going to vote, which is why so much of Peter's domestic predictions are often off.

My apologies to all those who disagree with me and agree with Peter Z. Simply because our immigration policy "is broken" does not mean we need to open the border and allow millions of people to come in without any controls, we need to vote for people who will fix it. Opening the gates breaks it even further as it also allows for those who want to break the law to come in, flood our cities with millions of people with very little path to economic independence, caos in our schools and hospitals etc. Controlled immigration, such as what my family and I went through at the end of the seventies, works much better for everyone. It took us close to 8 years to go through all the application process until we were finally granted visas. What we have today is uncontrolled chaos as an strategy to gain political advantage by the party who opened the gates and it does not benefit anyone. Peter is a smart person with an engaging style, but he is not always right. He predicted Biden would win the election on one of the last videos I saw.

Some of Zeihan's assessments seem spot on... until it comes to something I personally know about. I live on acreage 3 miles from the border wall in Arizona. I see the lights from my bedroom window. We were overrun until Bush started building the wall, which Obama completed. At that point the foot traffic collapsed! The desert used to be covered in Spanish language trash, and our mountains burned several times a year. (A catastrophic fire started on "Smugglers' Ridge"!) Now, it is peaceful. Very little trash, very few fires. All thanks to the wall. Then Trump proclaimed "Let's build a wall!" And his enemies shouted "No!" ...and Zeihan started spouting bullshit that it was counter productive.... Things like this make me question everything else he says... but I still buy his books and watch all his videos. If nothing else, he is very thought provoking!

Yeah, both sides aren't being comepletely thorough in their arguments. I agree that there is a huge subsidy on the medical side with illegal immigration, but on the other hand, it should be way easier AND way cheaper to come here legally. If someone is of working age and we can use them for consteuction, they should get a visa right away. These construction companies and contractors are cheating americans by using illegal migrants, cause they pass on the liability to us if and when that migrant becomes seriously injured on the job.

@henrygonzalez360 Ай бұрын
In respect your opinion, but if you do your research on the history of trafficking you'll see that illegal substances have been coming North decades before guns started flowing South. Of course it flows North because of the demand. Two examples were Opium in the early 1900s, then alcohol during the prohibition. That led to marijuana in the 60s, cocaine in the 80s, methamphetamine in the 90s, and fentanyl in the 2000s. Catch my drift? American guns didn't start becoming a real issue in Mexico until the 80s during the cocaine trade explosion under the Guadalajara Cartel when the warring families were united under Miguel Angel Felix Gallardo.

If we would fix the immigrant worker system then many wouldn't even seek asylum. They'd seek a work visa. And let's not lie to ourselves...we want that labor, we need that labor. It fit's into a gap in our own labor demographics. I suspect it's an 80/20 problem. Fixing the guest worker system is 80% of the problem. Then Border enforcement can focus on criminals.

We have a 70% Labor shortage according to statistics. So 7 out of 10 Companies lack laborers. This will affect economic expansion and sustainability. This is caused by our existing labor force is not qualified, expect a higher salary, or do not want the jobs available. There will be a gradual change with the blending of foreign and local cultures. But this has been happening since they arrived on the Mayflower. This is not a bad thing. We are a country of people who want to work hard to be successful. Mexico has an even greater labor shortage than the US. It is at 75% of companies lack laborers in Mexico. So we are in a competition with Mexico on attracting laborers.

@@hirokeo it’s very easy to say bitcoin is a Ponzi scheme because you don’t understand it. Do yourself the smallest of favors and spend some time reading about it. Bitcoin was created as a gift for us. A hard money, a way out of the endless battle against the feds constant devaluing of the US Dollar. A fight we can’t ever win. We lose somewhere around 7% of our purchasing power annually. I understand that it might seem like a ponzi because of how much Bitcoin early buyers accrued. But it’s here for everyone and you can buy as little or as much as you want. Unfvck your future and start buying small portions monthly and see how it performs. Read a little. You will thank yourself later. Last bitcoin block is mined in 2150 or around there. You still have plenty time to get ahead of the rest of the world. Your kids and their kids will thank you.
