Last summer my wife and I tore down a 50-year-old building and salvaged the exterior siding. This video shows the process of installing that siding in the attic of our cabin. We wanted to preserve the weathered and chipped appearance of the boards. We love the finished product. Enjoy!

This has been really the first time I watched a man, a single man building such a house which usually needed many men to accomplish. It is practically a house that required so much knowhows and skills indeed. Every time I watched it, I praised your craftsmanship. Salute!

However I just watched the entire series on the cabin build and I must say that your skills and the quality of your materials has vastly improved in the new cabin build compared to the remodel. The attic remodel looks great for the quality of the repurposed material. And Stella is still gorgeous. Thanks for posting these on Alaska life. I have been there once and am enjoying it again vicariously thru these videos. I would like to go again in winter to see the northern lights but at 78 this is not likely. Thanks again.

I've lived off grid in Trapper Creek Alaska for 22 years now. It's so nice to see a gentleman who is clean and has more than just standing around and drinking booze all the time. After being with the fella I'm still living with after 17 years I've finally realized that I am the problem. If I would just stop supporting him with my small income he'd have to get out there and find another way to get his beer or whatever today's alcohol. At first I didn't mind so much because we stayed busy together. But now it's completely turned negitive. I'm the person that is always trying to lift people's spirits and I'm now always being dictated to. And if I don't do things the way he says I'm stupid or any other ugly name he has for me. Now my tiny cabin needs so much help it's getting overwhelming. His newest motto is don't fix it until it's broken. And if I try to he just gets in my way. He used to care about the cabin. Now he says it's just his old shack and it wasn't meant to be a home. Well dang it none of it's his in the first place. I wish I could share my life with a nice fella who would truly care. And not just get what he can and disrespect the one you've shared 17 years with.Just saying it's nice to see a gentleman here in my State. Not that there aren't any, but I've never even looked further.

You and the wife have a beautiful place. I watch guys building off-grid cabins in various parts of the world. I don't know how your video came up but I'm enjoy seeing a homey video. I'm a life long Alaskan and I've always wanted to live out in the boonies, so I live vicariously by watching these kinds of video. I must have been a carpenter in another life. Although I helped design and was general contractor on a 3,500 sq ft custom home, did a lot of sweat equity on it as well. I love the smell of new wood. Great job on your loft. I think I know the area you're in, my guy, now deceased, and I use to go hunting and camping up that way. I look forward to your videos.

There you are!!! I have been looking for you guys ever since the wedding. It was like you had fallen off the edge of the earth. I've missed you. I really like the attic. I have a fondness for attics. They are usually small and compact, but not so much STUFF just waiting to be thrown out. It usually is your favorite stuff waiting for space to live in. It usually is warm and cozy, and not too easy to find. (fewer interruptions that way) Whether it is a hide out or a guest room you look forward to being there. I love the used siding it adds to the ambiance. A pair of drapes would be nice for those times you want privacy or the sun is in you eyes. I hope that you and Tanya are doing well. I am fine and looking forward to the holidays. Be safe. See ya on the next video.

This certainly looks very beautiful! Great work! You are a true carpenter. There’s not enough skilled labor taught to our kids. My daughter is a Mason and can hardly find work. She will have to move away. Her dream is to live in Alaska. I think her skills could possibly be put to better use, in Alaska. That view..though 😍

Good afternoon Amanda. I completely agree. The trades are so important. I would not trade my career. You mentioned your daughter was a mason. I assume you mean a stone, block or brick mason?
@amandablevins6809
@amandablevins6809 3 жыл бұрын
@@ThisIsMyAlaska yes.. She’s a Brick Mason. She has worked some Block. Most places are using block. But Brick 🧱 is definitely a different type of skill. She likes restoration work. She left high school and went to a Vocational School her 11th grade year. She competed on a stated level and won 1st place in all her competitions. She won around $2,500.00 in tools. She was selected to go to national but became pregnant with her daughter. She has joined the union here. She isn’t getting enough work. But....I am excited for a future project she will get to work on here locally. In a few months..She will get to rebuild my Old School that I graduated from. The building was demolished recently and the plans to build a new school, is in motion. She got the job. I will be babysitting ofcourse! Yay!! I hate that she doesn’t get much work. Her health benefits are affected. This isn’t “The American Dream” Her and I both agree that a homestead life would be the best life. We live out in the country..but not the wilderness. There’s a big difference lol
